I think most such artists have some examples sitting out so you'd know what to expect. But also, caricatures work by exaggerating those of your features that stand out, and if it's something you're self-conscious about or haven't realized yourself it can definitely be upsetting.
Yep. My advice for anyone thinking about getting one is to let it all go. Its not meant to be a personal attack just the artists literal first impressions embellished to a cartoonish extent. It doesn't even mean that is what everyone first notices about you just this person. You don't have to be happy with it but know its to entertain not to degrade.
Had no idea who, but bravo for the good eye. Tat match and appears she lives in Hawaii, where assume these were filmed with Aloha, outfits and and sunburns.
I'm honestly shocked this part of society managed to sneak past humanity's ever increasing sensitivity to criticism. Like, I'm sure someone is screaming about racism in the comments of wherever this gets posted.
Because this is opt-in. People are coming to get a caricature done, and presumably can see other examples or even know the artist from social media. Same way friends can razz each other: the intent is understood.
I don't care about the racism aspect, but exaggerating your flaws seems like a great way to make someone feel insecure about how they look. I don't find these offensive, just kinda not desirable.
I've always been a very sensitive person, but I think I would be cool with having this done because almost none of my self-consciousness is about my appearance, but rather about who I am as a person at the very core of my being, which is usually buried so deep no caricaturist could ever capture it on paper 😎👍
I stopped to watch one do some work at the state fair in my teens. He did a couple hilarious ones, then a group of girls came up and were kinda forcing one of the group to get hers done. She was very obviously upset at the idea, but did it anyway. This dude made an amazingly beautiful portrait of her, with her friends as hideously caricatured as possible in the background. It was awesome.

I mustache you a question.

I don't understand the point of caricatures. They just seem insulting.
JustAnInternetPerson
That's like saying "I don't understand why my bartender is spinning cups and drinks and setting fire to the table".
It's literally the point of it. Some people are not thin skinned and enjoy the joke.
flamingflamingo
I don’t think it’s about thin skin. I just think it’s dated and weird.
CorrectMostOfTheTime
Same reason friends mock each other deal
flamingflamingo
My friends don’t mock appearances though.

here's the trick tho, people who are insecure about how they look, or dont want any flaws pointed out, arent going to these people.
