Scary Movie 3 is genuinely a fantastic and hilarious movie. The sheriff's hat and cocking shovel sight gags alone are enough to justify the whole movie. Truly a wonderful experience.
Yeah there's a video on youtube somewhere by the guy who made that prop, it was apparently a 'had extra time, made this dumb thing' idea and it ended up being one of the most memorable bits of that movie for me.
They put out so many of them so quickly the world got burnt out. And they were not in any way consistent in quality. (Looking at you, spoof of Fast and Furious)
Yeah, every studio started copycat movie parodies and unlike most they tried throwing 50 films references and skits like Family Guy instead of deconstructing a couple of films or the genre.
Seems everyone was hiring Leslie Nielsen too for their films regardless of quality. After he passed away those parody films, both good and bad, just died out.
We'll definitely get an influx of them eventually after a dry spell. Either a cash in on a franchise or a comedy guy who becomes the lead for them.
