Quick, someone get a rag, Facebook is leaking again.
JapaneseStudentTadashii
I disagree. The army is basically the only way anyone can afford college nowadays.
Lenthas
Considering how old this is he prolly died of old age already...

Appropos of nothing: Is Imgur sharing a server with the Fallout pre-download server, or what?

42 really? I would have thought the cutoff was less than that.

Just send off virgin 18 year olds who will be extremely devoted to coming home safely.

No push ups after Basic?
mahapatih
In a job with significant death risk, never underestimate the old ones.
Norksierra
Reminds me of Sonny Barger volunteering Hells Angels to serve in Nam, in a letter to LBJ in 1965.
Kerberos623
Nobody clue in that the guy is probably Israeli? He's wearing an israeli vest and the gun is setup the same way as they do.

This has been reposted so many times that the author has had to change 'old guys' to the 'living dead', to reflect his new status.
RationPack7
I've never seen this before
Dan68
As a 47 year old, can confirm.
1941NaihonGaiganYamatoClassBattleShip
What sounds really good is having representatives like Conan the barbarian and just throw volunteers in an arena
tynaqua
as a woman over 50, yeah, gimme a damn gun and a target

Read "Old Man's War" by John Scalzi. It's like Starship Troopers but based on this concept.
DuckOfAutoCorrect
Yes. READ IT!!!
TheTwoRaptorsYouDidntEvenKnowWereThere
This man wanna draxx them sklounst on those terries clavicles

So many people have won the Internet they now have a war of their own for who really owns it.
SchrodingerSyndrome
Plot of Old Man's War
RandomAbscessMemories
Well, premise. The book was more a series of connected events than a plot.
Like, I enjoyed it, but I felt kind of disappointed when I realized it was over and not much had happened. Speaks to my personality, I guess
CommodoreSkippy
Yes, let's let old, irritable, tired, and irrational individuals be on the front lines. Can't see how that would go wrong.
oatmealheaven
They most likely cant run, jump or anything.
thefaceparade
Thanks Facebook.
SillyNiggas
Ok so we're omitting fitness completely from the requirements. Sounds fitting.
lonelystrandedalien
in a couple of years they'll all wear robotic exosuits and be 1000x stronger, faster and clumsier than humanly possible.
You should see the unfit people who are in already. I'd take an old rickety man over the fat people who are serving. I'm in the military
ThaiMaiShu
Even the fat people are in better shape than most older individuals, at least at strength related requirements.
ordohereticusinquisitor
All of those complaints are heard on an almost daily basis in the military.
LaBix
If a soldier stops complaining it means either the military is perfect or the soldiers have no faith in the leaders ability to address them.
Trust me, people still complain even if nothing will happen.
To each other yes. The point is when the CoC stop hearing complaints they have fucked up.
Burghguy
I never understood the age restriction policy with an all-volunteer force. If someone can pass the tests and WANTS to go, why stop them?
tyrfin
The cutoff is 34 to join up.
To administer the tests costs money, there is a higher chance with old people that they won't pass, which means more money spent
It costs money to train a soldier, they want good returns on that investment. The body takes a beating, old folk would yield poor returns.
Nibarlan
I think that's the biggest thing. A 45 year old who joined at age 20 is much more capable than a 40 year wanting to join up.
FuckingCatalinaWineMixer
Because they have old people smell? *flies away*
Glumerlink
Simply put, just because you can pass the tests and fight doesn't mean you don't have a high chance of dropping dead sitting at your post.
pringlesyum
Older people are productive members of society with real estate, investments, families, etc. You don't want them out of the economy.
I don't mean my comment to be rude to young people but the model of a predominantly young, male armed forces is there for a reason
Demonicwolf9
Alot has to do with one health and and their body's ability to cope with stress of military service. Plus all the people are generally more$
Treblaine
42 years old isn't too old to BE in the army, it's too old to JOIN the army. Many SEALs are in their 50's but with 30+ years of experience.
PS: I know SEALs are Navy, not Army, my point is about infantry with an obvious elite example.
jmeyers1983
Because people who are not physically/mentally able place others in danger.
Newthoenikker
He said "who pass the tests". If you test for those and they demonstrate they are in physical and mental well being, why not?
TheCornyCornet
Maybe they factor in aging. One year could make a big difference in ability.
i got an even better idea: classical gladiator fights between our political leaders! VLADIMIR PUTIN AS SECUTOR VS BARACK OBAMA AS RETIARIUS
McFarvo
send in the footman to kill them both once the duel has gone far enough
Bradaigh
Come on you know Putin would win that in like a second
think again – the retiarius has a trident and a net, martial arts won't help much against that.
TheLittleFlyingDutchGirl
I don't like Putin at all but I think you're right. He would win the fight over pretty much everyone :/
SquirrellyWhirly
Have you seen the King of Jordan?
Hmm that might make for an interesting match :P
chopchoptime
Good fucking idea... that would be a good fight.
PremierPyrus
Duh, why else do you think this isn't a thing?
It WAS a thing, it turns out "best at stabbing people" as the only requirement has little overlap with "good leadership".
Well. Leaders usually had to be good at both before modern weapons.
Julius Caesar was crap, god damn knife magnet.
Words cannot describe how much I hate the term " This [noun] wins the internet"

Well, you're mom's so fat she ate the internet, so nobody can win it anymore.
Didn't they say all of the Internet, when measuring by weight of electrons, could fit in like the size of a strawberry or something?
