While I am loving with all the responses, and I agree with the points made about the state of things…I must say all of you are wrong on why it is cropped. It is cropped because that is how the scene was filmed originally. But I still have the question. Why was it cropped?

Starship Troopers (1997) notoriously featured a shower scene in which many of the cast, only some of whom had signed a contract with a nudity clause, were asked to disrobe. Many did so only if the director (Paul Verhoeven) and cinematographer (Jost Vacano) were nude as well. The resulting film takes, originally intended to be presented in full-frame 1.85:1 aspect ratio, were cropped in post-production to remove Verhoeven’s member as he ruined multiple shots by standing too close.
