A motorcyclist discovers a helmet on the ground

Dont skip leg day

This is why you never go riding alone!!! :( Hopefully he's ok

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was expecting him to run off into the distance like animals do when they're freed.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

instead he just rolled down the hill

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The hardest part of riding a four wheeler, telling your parents you're gay.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Hardest part of you is the dick in your ass

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

All bleeding stops eventually...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sooo that is why you wear a helmet.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love the position of camera!?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this guy needs the above and beyond Citizen award!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One time I found a helmet. Then I got an free helmet. Pretty convenient

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

funny that people always have time to set up a camera.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

He probably took his helmet off to help better. Go pro might have gotten in the way.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Helmets are hot; I'd take mine off too before lifting that quad.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bikers wear these (most of the time) to ensure that if an accident occurs, there's video proof of events. Other times it's for showing off 1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Later, but in my experience, most like to be prepared and safe. 2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is it just me, or does that look like Jeremy Clarkson pinned under the ATV?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not gone well. Back to the studio!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not gone well has it. Back to the studio!

This looks like Hollister hills svra

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you watch 127 hours backwards it's a lovely film about an amputee man who finds an arm in the desert

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

If you watch this gif backwards it's a horror story where a biker traps a man beneath a quadbike and then threw away his helmet

Savage AF. NICE!!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I like to think that he took off his helmet and threw it perfectly on the road to attract attention

9 years ago | Likes 3074 Dislikes 19

Yeah it just coming off on the road and the quad being way over there just doesn't compute

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Likely lobbed it towards the road/incline and it managed to stop before rolling off altogether. Unlikely =/= impossible.

9 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 6

Good thing. He could have been there a long while. Especially if no one was looking for him

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd be riding by like "oh free helmet" and nit even notice

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This is good to know. It honestly would not have occurred to me to look for someone needing help.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Yeah i was thinking the same thing. I had no idea about the helmet on the road sign.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To think hed be dead if he threw it wrong. Or overshot it

9 years ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 2

Imagine throwing the helmet over and knocking the other motorcyclist out as he's coming down and he dies, then you just think "well fuck"

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Or if he hit the guy on the motorcycle

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's a "code" among offroaders/motorcyclist, if you see a helmet lying you always stop to see if someone's in danger or has had an accident.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Another good practice is counting riders & bikes. A mismatch means there may be someone out of sight who may have worse injuries.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Absolutely!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a motorcyclist, TIL

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

This video always haunts me, I found a motorcycle helmet on a green lane, it was sitting exactly like this, I picked it up and hung it on1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A tree branch then rode off without giving it any thought. This was 2 years ago so I doubt anyone local died, still fucks me up about 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What could've been. I just assumed some other rider had put it down and forgot it, never thought of people using it to flag traffic 3/3

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

damn sonsofbitches just wanna get 'ttention ..

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

he's lucky it even landed on the trail and didn't just roll off.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Helmet on the road is a universal distress signal. Miracle he made the throw

9 years ago | Likes 250 Dislikes 0

Left my helmet on the road once. Was pushing a motorcycle with my grandpa. Within site, but noisy. Someone stole it.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

TIL this. I don't even have a bike but perhaps I'll know what this means if I ever should see one.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Yup, it's one of the first things taught when learning to ride a motorcycle

9 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 0

Good to know.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oddly enough it's not (at least, I never heard of it) for fourwheelers. (Though most states don't require training/license I believe)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

shit I've been riding for years now and I've never heard this

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Same

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It actually might even be in the provincial rider's handbook that you need to study before getting your license here. I'd have to check

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's been a few years but I definitely don't remember reading that in my manual for Iowa, U.S.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got pinned under my quad once. woke up with my leg under the foot rest and had to pull it out. my helmet was down the hill. don't know how

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably more like video proof in case the man died, to avoid being convicted..

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

I believe this comment is referring to the man placing his helmet down to view the save... the original is about the helmet on the road. +1

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Oh! my bad... now I feel dumb.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You should!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

So you should. Why would the rescuer put his helmet on the grass right next to him to attract attention? Plus, the road was way down below.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad once saved himself and a friend by throwing his tuk in front of a moving snowmobile in the middle of a blizzard. Last chance deal.

9 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 1

.. i read that as "by throwing his tusk".. instantly started thinking about Tusken Raiders and their tusks... i need sleep.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The man who stopped didn't have room, so drive off to get help, left them with spare jackets. Another guy came along a few minutes later.

9 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Fur hunter with a tow behind his snowmobile. Packed them in and drive them to town, saving their lives.

9 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

The first guys snowmobile broke down and he died of exposure a kilometer from town, they found him next morning.

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Did he die because he gave away his extra jackets?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And that's the story of how a tuk saved two and killed one.

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

What's a tuk?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

A child.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought it was short for Tuk Tuk, so in my mind the guy threw an Indian taxi to a snowmobile

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What a handsome hat

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A man wears a hat like that and you know he's not afraid of anything.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Another spelling of tuque/toque, the Canadian word for what Americans typically call beanies. It's a winter hat.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I just call them knit caps. Beanies are puff-less and flap-less in my mind.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have NEVER seen it written tuk.... toque, yes.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The lengths a man will go to to save a few letters... is what I'd like to say. I just messed up and didn't realise it. :(

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

First time for me, too, but I understood what they meant. That or I am COMPLETELY wrong. But context suggests this interpretation.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

he did, in the comments on the original video the guy said he threw it down to get attentionion

9 years ago | Likes 1035 Dislikes 1

Mind posting link to original video?

his throwing skills are better than his riding skills

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

What a lucky toss. How easy it would have been to throw short or long and have it hidden by grass.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's why the person said, "I like to think that he took off his helmet and threw it perfectly on the road to attrqact attention." They (1)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

saw that comment, and thought, gee, going to pretend like I didn't read that and it'll look like a super cool guess. Sweet, sweet upvotes.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Attentionion is a good word. I like to think it means when you layer many attempts to get someone's attention and then you cry either way.

And this is why you ALWAYS go riding in a buddy system and make sure you've got cell service or a good radio with you if you do plan solo.

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I think that guy was hunting. He was in camo, so he may have been function riding, not joyriding. Good thing he wore his helmet!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

A cell or radio aren't much help if you're pinned like this or unconscious though.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Well it's not perfect but it's better than nothing. And also ppl will know where to look for you if you go missing

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True, I guess I'm just odd that way and go for the 'buddy system' for mud/trail riding. If I can't find one, I don't go.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

911 operator here. I could ping his location and relay the gps coordinates to fire/ems personnel as long as he's able to make the call.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That's what I mean, chances are you won't be able to make the call. The guy in this clip wouldn't be able to get to it unless it was in a++

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

++chest pocket, which is unlikely.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who puts a kick stand down with their hand?

9 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 8

Someone should tell him how it works. Fuckin' casuals.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Had a bike that you could not do with your foot. Had to use your hand.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Who throws a football?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bam!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had a bike that had a small mechanism that needed to be switched over. Prevents the kick from deploying when riding.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

was likely freaking out casu ehe thought the guy might be dead

A goddamn hero! That's who!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone who is dismounting on a narrow path and has his legs bent to brace himself and can use his right hand to most safely hit the stand?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Daryl from The Walking Dead

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why does it matter?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People who ride trailbikes. Often the kickstand is waaay up in there and you have to use your hand.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

who cares about that after watching the whole clip?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Adrenaline can turn of muscle memory pretty easily

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... Me?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I do, because my shoes gets in the way and after 5 tried I bend down and do it by hand anyways.....

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People that can't lift an ATV. They aren't that heavy.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

The helmet saved his life in a different way

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

it probably saved the back of his head in the initial accident as well.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is why you wear a helmet

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 3

My luck the helmet would have kept rolling down the hill!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So that you can throw it in the road to attract attention?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but not shoes

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I bet his shoes pulled off from him wiggling underneath the quad, the guy helping was old/bad back, only lifted it so high. Plus clean socks

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And a seatbelt too if you have them. He might have avoided being pinned if had one on

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

ATVs don't have seatbelts, you need to be able to jump free if it tips.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wasn't pay close attention, I was thinking a side-by-side/ranger.. whatever people call them. Those typically do if I'm not mistaken

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Side by sides do since they have a cage.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My son was in one of those, didn't have seatbelt tight. It rolled and the rollbar landed on his foot. Damn near lost his foot.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I left just a bit of slack in the harness in a Honda Odyssey, I put it on its side and dislocated my shoulder. That was not a fun ride home.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

wait a sec. i place my camera to get the perfect shot. savage

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Was more a "Can you feel your legs? Good, lemme get my helmet off and out of the way. Here, let me help you."

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that was really odd. There was a cut and it seems the camera had been moved to take a good shot.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Probably placed it for his own security. He has video is this guy tried to sue him for whatever reason.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A friend of mine found a helmet... there was a head in it. Found the body and bike a bit further off the road. Fucked up.

9 years ago | Likes 920 Dislikes 4

Was there a flaming axe nearby? Also, is your name Icabod?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Reading all of this just makes me want to grab my .338 and wait for the fuckos to set up traps.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Everyone has a friend that did this, amazing really. Urban myth.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes, my friend is an urban myth. Thanks for coming out.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Friend's brother locked his helmet to his motorcycle and someone shit in the helmet.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know someone who made a little money on craigstlist... FS Bike w/ Helmet. Helmet has ketchup stains.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That what I was worried was going to happen. And yeah, you need to be extremely careful cause there could also be spinal injury.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't think the head in the helmet guy really cares anymore

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He should! Spinal injury is serious!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

two words for a motor cycelists without safety gear= Organ Doner

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So... did you keep the helmet?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

He should have planted it to see if a human grows.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Umm I'm moving to Minneapolis next month, biking is my mode of transportation, where the ef are these fish hooks??

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I'v only seen a few. It was over the summer though so I have no idea if it will happen again.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wtf?! Where?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Around Calhoun and Harriet

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Holy shit that's my bike route!!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's crazy! I assume you take them down. Who does that!

9 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

Psychopaths, that's who. Holy balls that's fucked

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can't speak for all but the drug growers around here in Arkansas are very protective of their crops.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but wouldn't doing that to a public bike path be like "How to alert the cops to the location of your grow in one easy step!"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Every time. I'm a daily bike commuter and I'm not looking to show up to work dressed like a walleye.

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

How do you protect yourself from them?

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

You keep your eyes open haha

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

You could wear a helmet with a full facial shield. Or make sure you only ride paths with no overhanging trees.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

yeah, you've got to be careful riding in forests.. some idiots set traps :/

9 years ago | Likes 202 Dislikes 4

Happen to me once. Luckily it hit my chest and snapped. Had a fucked up bruise.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

My cousin got one right in the neck. No severe injuries, but baaad bruise :(

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It wasn't anything like that, it was on the side of a highway. He'd either lost control and flew over the ditch, or someone rode him off.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Can't understand why this comment got a downvote.. I mean, you're the one who started this whole comment section? wtf?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol, I know. It's weird, but whatever. Sometimes people don't notice the usernames are the same or something. :)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This guy had the balls to set up one of those on my property! I hit it on my mountain bike and just about died. Had a huge line on my chest.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"idiots" wouldn't be the correct word at that point.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sadly, can confirm :-(

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some people place traps on their private property to deter trespassers. Can't blame them, hear trespassers are a real nuisance in some areas

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 21

That's still illegal.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Is it? Its legal to shoot trespassers in most of America.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

No, it's legal to shoot home invaders or trespassers if you're in reasonable fear for your life or safety

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yup, here you go. I'll try to find more on it. https://definitions.uslegal.com/b/booby-traps/

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's not legal to set hidden or camouflaged traps. Property isn't valued higher than human life

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I would happily set a trap for my shit uncle that constantly make his shitty motogross bike rumble and roar under my widow just to upset me

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 20

and fill my fucking house with bike smoke, but then, I don't wanna hurt anyone else. So I'll just put dog shit on his bike saddle.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 7

That's great, by the looks of the downvotes most people didn't read the second part and see what kind of trap you would set

Yeah, I hope all of them will have my same misfortune and have a fkn neighbor that ruin their everyday's air and peace, that doesn't listen

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Sometimes noise of bikes riding nearby woods drive people crazy. Literally, they are ready to kill bikers in attempt to stop it.

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

Douchebaggery goes both ways. I've seen people take their cross bikes into deer hunting grounds.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

There's a level of dickery in riding through hunting grounds, but I don't think it's close to the level of setting up beheading traps.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Nor was it my intention to imply that

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There was a report of similar incident locally some years ago.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

There was a popular enduro trail in the forest. And one of locals with a nerve not that strong wrote peritions against it for years. //

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Then fed up of the noise he went nuts and set some traps. Fortunately no fatalities, the guy was pronounsed insane.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Like...traps to hurt humans riding through forests?

9 years ago | Likes 174 Dislikes 0

Some people set traps to scare people away from their drug plants hidden in the forest.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Note, most of the comments there are talking about anti-trespassing measures. That doesn't make it any less wrong :(

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they string wire between trees at neck height

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This almost happened to me once. 5th gear, desert wash, tracks still going thru, but recently someone put up barbed wire without any poles

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Impossible to see until right there. I thought my head was gone. Luckily it skipped off my knuckles and dug in my arms, caught me like a net

They used to toss steel rebar in rivers below bridges to keep people from diving off them.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

That just seems stupid why would they do that

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

e until you were about to impale yourself on them

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

WTF is wrong with some people?

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I missed this... do you have a link or title?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Sorry I can't find the Imgur post but that's the same pic with the article. It's so fucked up!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I do a lot of road biking and saw a fellow cyclist with his tire shredded because someone decided to throw tacks on the road where we ride:(

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes, some people put up high strength wires that are impossible to see when you're going fast and can behead you or royally fuck you up

9 years ago | Likes 194 Dislikes 1

Uh

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is some hills have eyes shit

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Wow just reading this pisses me right off

9 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

You don't live next to a place where riders like to 'have fun', don't you ? I perfectly understand why wires get strung.

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 3

Jesus Christ lay caltrops or something, anything, don't tell me "I want people to die, gruesomely" is the first fucking plan they think of.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's freakish behavior, but does happens. its like people dropped concrete blocks off highway overpasses. Rare, but not unknown.

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Teenagers dropping bricks and concrete blocks off overpasses is incredibly common where I live. They hit our wagon/lorry last week. Sucks.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Holy hell, what is wrong with people?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Should drop a brick on their head from an overpass fucking dipshits

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People that glue razor blades to monkey bars in playground s :/

Holy fucking shit?!?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yuck.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Noise. All through the week. And every weekend from dawn til dusk. Drives people insane sometimes.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 9

People do this on trails that are no where near residencies a lot of the time.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Still not a reason to fucking behead someone

9 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

It is if you are turning nuts. Everyone has his point of no return. One quits and sells their home, other shoots himself, or maybe ...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 10

I mean how unlucky and lucky at the same time can you be? What's the chances he took that helmet off and it rolled perfectly into that path.

9 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

Doesn't it seem like a fabricated video? I don't know. That's a hell of a throw backwards from your ass.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Or he just let it roll down the hill

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd venture to bet that a helmet won't roll through that field grass.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"let me just pin myself with a quad so you can look like a YouTube hero"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I honestly can't believe you would put that past internet people. It wouldn't be difficult in the least.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People are saying in the YouTube comments he threw his helmet down to land on the path to draw attention. Still, hey man nice shot.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Are ATVs less safe than dirt bikes? I'd like to see statsitics, but it seems like they cause much bigger problems when you wipe out.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

But they wouldn't sell them if they weren't safe, would they?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is much easier to crash on a dirt bike, but when you do crash an ATV there's a good chance it ends up landing on you. Grew up riding ATVs

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

See this is what I'm thinking, I mean on a bike sure you're off-balance by default, but with only 2 points of contact to the ground on 1/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

rough terrain it seems like it would be easier to manage overall. I've only ever ridden mountain bikes though, nothing motorized, and no ATV

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

MTB is the closest thing to riding moto without the motor. ATV's just throw you around so much.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad used to ride the old three wheelers, and he says that they were the most sketchy thing he's ever driven. The new ones are a lot safer.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Three wheelers are great one you get used to them. They dont feel as stable as quads, so youre always aware to be careful.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah he rolled them a lot,but he was always lucky enough to have them not land on him.He used them for cattle,so it was very unpredictable.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Once you get on it, the center of gravity is really high. These things need a roll cage and 4-point harness.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, if you get airborne on an ATV and land crooked, it gets out of control really fast.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had a buddy that used to ride a lot, say this a couple times when he landed one side first. it just tosses you right off.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you need to learn how to fall off them, you have to throw yourself clear, cos physics being a bitch means the bike will be coming after you.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That almost seems impossible; everytime I've fallen off my bike I didn't see it coming til I was halfway off already.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The biggest problem with quads is that they don't lean like bikes so there's no chance to lay them down in a turn. It's always a high side

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The biggest problem with quads are inexperienced riders easily going beyond their capabilities.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I took a weeklong course and I agree. So much fun but at the same time you gotta be pretty damn careful

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're not wrong

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you have to be extremely careful doing that, i know someone who was killed because a tree was lifted off them and all the blood rushed back

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

so what do you do? let them die!?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Call for help if they're not immediately dying for some reason.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ex was stuck under her quad for 8 hours. Nearly died for 5 different reasons.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Natural toxins in the blood build up in a crush site, causing the kidneys to fail when the blood passes through

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He should have called an ambulance instead of doing that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's called compartment syndrome in a crushing scenario like this. Like in Signs with the dad's wife. It can happen in a lot of ways.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Is he going to be okay?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And at least the guy releasing the wolf had a big piece of plywood between him and the wolf. This guy has nothing!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Yeah it's called crush syndrome or some shit IIRC.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's true - it is called crush syndrome.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The acidity won't be the biggest problem however it can be counted with hydrogen bicarbonate infusion and hyperventilation

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The biggest problem will most likely be hyperkalemia which can be counted with glucose and insulin infusion

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the event of cardiac arrest CPR can be administered while the above is managed

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Term is crush syndrome if anyone wanted to Google about it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well if he still has feeling in his leg, that should mean that he still has blood flow there, right?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Basically, dead/bad blood returns to heart and kills them

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

happens after quite some time, so yeah if the person is stuck for 1 hour or more, don't rush and call for medical help asap

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So what would u do in a situation where u were the only one and needed to left this. Do u do it slowly if this were to happen or not at all?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I was a kid, I saw a motorcycles dip too low on his bike and slid across the street, hitting the side walk. He got up instantly... 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How would professionals be able to deal with it where the victim doesnt die if they are experiencing crush syndrome?

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I think they use a tourniquet to release slowly, they have medication to counteract the poisons and expertise in reviving stopped hearts

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

you put a tourniquet, then... Best case you clean the blood, worst case you cut the limb

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You can counter a lot of the effects if you have two IV lines secured and maybe a set of defib pads on him.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same thing can happen if you fall from a height and get caught by a safety harness, if you hang too long it cuts off circulation.

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Lots of hangtime!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's why my treesstand harness comes with a suspension relief strap I can push down with my feet on to reduce circulation loss.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

so when they say they have a crush it's actually...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought it was compartment syndrome?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Both very similar, however compartment syndrome is more associated with skeletal injury and necrosis of the tissure around the crushed site.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The pathophysiology associated with both are alike in that hypoperfusion of the tissues take place. Depending on injury it can go either way

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

maybe more severe.. depends on the day.. lol depends

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In situations like this its hard not to just rush and help. however it is important to assess the situation, ASK how long ago did it happen,

9 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 1

LOOK for signs of injuries such as possible bleeds, TEST see if they have feeling in there legs and call emergency services if in doubt.

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

if someone is conscious and aware its likely you have a moment to asses the situation.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

IF i was ever in said situation, How long after the incident is it safe to move the person?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is a difficult question, depending on the point of compression and how much blood flow has been restricted the time frame is different

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would go off if they can feel anything in the extremity if they can then it is likely blood flow is just restricted and not fully blocked

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Daughter of an emergency responder here... As short as a few minutes can cause enough damage to kill someone with toxins when the weight

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Has been lifted. Unless it JUST happened, always call emergency services and don't remove them yourself. Keep them hydrated and awake also

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

it is also location dependent (the bigger the muscle group the more toxins and the less time).

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

if they have feeling in the extremity it usually means its only partial obstruction and there should little to no muscle death

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, or it can be holding a bleed shut. Kinda like pulling a knife out. Best left to the professionals.

9 years ago | Likes 288 Dislikes 2

Surely if the guys pulling knives out are professional, as are the guys sticking them in.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just ask Steve Irwin about that.

Pretty sure a motorcycle isnt an animal tho

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That didn't happen. There was no barb for him to pull out. It destroyed his heart, but wasn't left in there.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if the weight is causing him to suffocat tho ?

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

ABCs, airway, breathing, circulation

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Life over limb. If they are suffocating, then they are dying anyways - lift the weight and risk it.

9 years ago | Likes 82 Dislikes 0

Your name.... mate, I think we may be made for eachother. :D

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I wish I had a username mate

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The cells get crushed in the limb, releasing potassium. When object is lifted the blood comes back with lethal conc of K and stops the heart

9 years ago | Likes 1652 Dislikes 6

What is the proper way to lift it without the possibility of killing the person?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Have EMS do it. If it only affects limbs you can tourniquet them, if it affects hip or above you are pretty fucked.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There used to be trauma trousers that squeezed everything up to the umbilicus. They wouldn't die till you took the pants off in the ER

This is crush syndrome. Doesn't it take at least 2-4 hours before that can take effect?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fifteen minutes was what first aid said

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Looked it up. 1 hour if severe, but usually 4-6 hours

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

First aid was wrongggggg

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In a scenario without modern medicine, in some ways, it's a better way to go.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think it's safe to move the object though if the person can feel and move the pinned part of the body. If not, don't move it.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

So, what are you supposed to do? Tourniquet first?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait for help if you can. If not: tourniquet. Loss of a limb is better than loss of life.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

tl;dr= let em die.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Raising the acidity in the blood to lethal levels

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought Ca helps the heart beat. Why does a Ca rush stop the heart?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In very high doses it can do that. There's an acceptable level for every electrolyte and anything out of that is problematic

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn. What would have been the appropriate thing to do?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would assume monitor their heart rate, keep them conscious until help arrives. Maybe relieve small amounts of pressure on the limb?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

afiak, ask/guess how long pinned, tie the limbs off with a tourniquet, keep note of time NOW, and haul ass to a hospital. then provide times

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so docs can gague how much damage was done with trapped blood.

Yah I dunno what I'd do in that situation... maybe see what his legs look like on the other side, if he can still wiggle them, etc. Plus 1/

every situation is different. Being pinned by an ATV is much less risky than if it were a car (tho I doubt I could move an overturned car)

Life vs limb, always a gamble

9 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 2

This doesn't look like limb, this looks like life vs. body. His whole lower body was pinched.

9 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

Was speaking generally, but you're right. Looks to be on his ABD, may be the only thing keeping him from bleeding out internally.

(2) However! If you survive the potassium, crushed muscle releases myoglobin which destroys your kidneys. Welcome to dialysis.

So is there any upside to bring released from underneath objects crushing you to death?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You die quicker?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So is there a happy medium where you slowly release the victim? I mean ideally a rescue medic would do it but if you're super remote...

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well difficult. Body can't filter out the toxins fast enough either way. If it is just a limb cut circulation with a tourniquet (or belt) 1/

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If the hip affected, things are looking bad anyway, because you can't stop internal bleedings that could likely occur on removal of the 2/

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is there anything you can do for someone in that kind of situation to not let any of that happen?

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

That depends on the level of crush and the time spent trapped. If they were trapped in the last 15 minutes or so and the limb wasn't 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

crushed too badly, you can relieve pressure immediately and prevent problems. If they've been trapped longer than that, get medical help.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Not flipping your ATV over yourself, for one.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not driving an ATV to begin with.

Next you worry about micro embolisms. Was gonna add this and your other comment.

Calcium infusion can stabilise the myocardium of people with crush-related hyperkalaemia. Insulin+dextrose can help clear the potassium. (1)

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Stabilise? Really? You correctly spell stabilise *stabilize.. Just sayin'. Thanks Dr. Nick

Can you get it from eating too many bananas? Serious question, my son died from myocarditis

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did bananas cause myocarditis?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(3/4) to overcome a healthy kidney's powerful K excretion and end up with heart problems. If you have any concerns or questions your GP is

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(4/4) better qualified than I currently am to answer them. Please don't take my answers as medical advice and once again I'm sorry.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2/?) is an inflammation of the heart tissue. While people with K excretion problems should avoid bananas I don't think you could eat enough

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm so sorry to hear that. The reason high K. is a problem is that it stops the heart muscle contracting properly, whereas myocarditis (1/?)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No you cannot

This is why potassium is known in some circles as "the silent killer"

9 years ago | Likes 712 Dislikes 4

My point exactly

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Potassium is actually the "lethal injection" that they kill death row inmates with.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

What the fuck

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy shit this guy found the scp the swiss army banana

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why I browse Imgur!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Apparently if you think of anything ridiculous, it's already happened in a Bollywood film.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

silent, but deadly

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Potassium is also released during death, so a large bolus of potassium injected into a vein is undetectable during autopsy.

TIL the real reason bananas should only be used for scale

9 years ago | Likes 170 Dislikes 0

So essentially I can suicide via banana this is riveting news

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

No, one cannot become hyperkalemic (excess potassium) simply by digesting it. Your kidneys will filter it out. If you have renal failure 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2/2 along with taking in lots of potassium, than yes this could happen.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

K+ is used for lethal injection. Usually 3 drugs are used- a sedative, a paralytic, then K+ to stop the heart. Nothing silent about that.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Banana for death? Okay, I'll leave now...
