It's like a land lobster with more legs. And no claws. And can roll into a little ball.

FYI Roly Polys are names for similar looking millipedes and woodlice which are not closely related: subphyla Myriapoda or Crustacea

When I was a kid we called them coffee bugs. I still don't know why.

in denmark Bench Biters and they gave me an irrational fear of benches until i was 12 (no they don't bite people on benches)

Thought a crustacean was an Indian baker.... could be wrong.

Let me know if they taste like lobster.

They don't taste like lobster...

One of the few bugs I do not fear

They are bugs. Any land invertebrates can be called bugs. Spiders, insects, and yes, Rolypolys. A bug is not a classification.

Thank you. I was coming here to look for this and found it. Lobsters are bugs technically. Crustaceans, sure, but also a big bug.

How the hell do they live in Arizona?

They have sun shades. And give lectures on The Grand Canyon to tourists. Pay's not good, but they get by.

they look EXACTLY like miniature version of the gigantic isopods they pull from the ocean

It was about that time I realized the rolly polly was a 6 ft tall crustacean from the Mesozoic era.

Giant Isopods do (can confirm, have eaten them), can't say for sure about Woodlice though

I've heard someone tried cooking these. I think it was a pasta sauce with white wine, garlic and cream but I'm not sure.

I've fed one to my Venus fly trap and that arm died. Does anybody know why?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have it on good authority that they can be eaten and taste a bit like nail clippings.

They are like small Isopods

"Bugs" is not a technical term. They're still bugs. They're just not insects or arachnids.

I said the same thing and got down voted to -4. Imgur is weird.

Agreed. Worms are bugs, snails are bugs, spiders are bugs, these crustacean fucks are definitely still bugs, just none of them are insects.

Yep, there are ocean ones that latch onto fish and then big ocean ones that eat sharks and taste pretty good

Cheesybug!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

YES! I was looking for someone else who called them this and you didn't let me down.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love these creatures so much I actually pushed a total stranger away from crushing one of these. Then I helped it to grass. Totally proud.

I also used to save rolly polies! And all other creepy crawlies that were in danger of being smooshed.

Pop a Poppler in your mouth. What they're made of is a mystery. Where they come from, no one knows. You can pick 'em, you can lick 'em...

Don't even do it if you're gonna butcher it that hard

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why not?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because the show is dead now and should be respected, nay, revered, double nay, exalted.

I agree, I watch it nightly (until July 1 anyway). I quoted what would fit. It's accurate albeit abridged. v
