let my share my sad and embarrassing story

Nov 10, 2016 5:15 PM

My username is a lie, this is a fake account i just created to share this. I joined imgur about two years ago and I have been fairly active, posting from time to time and commenting every now and then. I am 19 years old and I still wet the bed almost every single night, last night was not the exception. This is not something recent; I have always had this problem. And yes, I’ve been trying to stop for as long as I can remember. Like during most of my life, I currently wear diapers at night to make the situation easier to manage.

Because of my bedwetting, I have never had a girlfriend; I didn’t went to my prom trip and missed tons of sleepovers as a child. I fear my bedwetting will continue to limit what I do.
I am currently studying engineering in college and I do not have many friends, I live on my own but I am terrified of having others find out I depend on diapers, I think it would ruin my life. I was going to participate in a student exchange and go to NZ for a semester but I did not apply to the program because I feared what could have happened if others found out.

I feel pathetic; I know it is not normal for someone my age to be waking up in wet diapers almost every morning.

I have tried lot methods to stop this. I have tried using an alarm, taking pills, antidiuretic hormones, not wearing diapers, not having any drinks after 8 pm, etc… but nothing seems to work for me. I know I am not the only one who has gone through this and I am determined to stop bedwetting. I has already kept me from doing many things I would like to have done and I don’t want this to continue. I want to have a normal life without worrying about this kind of stuff

I am posting this to vent and to ask you, fellow imgurians to share some advice or stories that might be useful because i know i am not the only one that has had this problem, so feel free to comment.

English is not my first language and it’s been 2 years since the last time I had an English class so sorry if I made any mistake

it sucks

this is what i have to wear every night

Maybe it's psychological? Have you @o try it?

TL;DR. Did you see a doctor already?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

See a doctor itll be okay

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you and or your doctor mentioned Ddavp as a possible treatment option?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

DDAVP, Google it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

thats new to me. i will do some research

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a medical condition. The person who's right for you in the end will love you anyway.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You need to see a mental health professional. If physical changes and/or medicine isn't helping; then it's most likely a psychological issue

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

i have never been to one before. sounds like a good idea

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have you tried acupuncture? Maybe that would help.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A friend of mine claims an adjustment from a chiropractor fixed his bed wetting.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

See a Doctor, it's not your fault. But the other gut is right, this isn't normal.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't feel bad . Just try . If trump can be president you can get a gf.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

now thats what i call a good motivational message

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you perhaps diabetic? Do you have malfunctioning kidneys?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not a Dr. but you might have your Andenosine levels checked. Your body may not be breaking that chemical down as you sleep.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

i am not very good at using google. how is andenosine linked with bedwetting?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My 1st thought was that you may be sleeping 'too hard'. You may be in such a deep state of sleep that your brain isn't picking up the signal

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and can that be solved? if so, how?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, you have a medical condition. It's embarrassing, but it's not the end of the world. Put yourself out there!

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

I can't agree more with this.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i agree with you but i need to deal with this problem to do all the things i would like to do without fear

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

1. My advice is experiment with being more open about it, do you have a friend who isn't part of a group of people that know you? As in an

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2. Expendable friend? Confide in them, and if they can accept you why can't others?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah OP,bladedrummer is right,+ it's not contagious, it's not like you have the herp. Plus, women gotta wear diapers to bed 1 week a month!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Came to the comments to say exactly this. Yeah it's not ideal, but it's far from being a thing that should stop you living your life OP

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Take a large spoonful of honey before going to bed.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i am desperate and running out of options so i will try it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i just woke up. first night was a big failure but i am ok with that, i am expecting failure.I am currently having 1, maybe 2 dry nights 1/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

every two weeks and i dont expect to stop this in one night. i tried waking up after 4 hours of falling asleep, i'll do it every 2 hours 2/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

from now on and hopefully start seeing some results. anyway, thank you all for commenting ang giving me advice. i will read every comment 3/

i cant help it so shut up

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had the same problem when I was young. My mom would always wake me up in the middle of the night so I could go to the toilet. 1/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I think it helped me to get used to waking up when I have to pee. I usually have to go 1-2 times per night even now. 2/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do you remember your dreams? I always dream of going to the toilet but somehow trained my mind to only give me freaky and uncomfortable 3/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ones in my dreams. That usually gives me the sign to wake up and go to a real toilet now that I am an adult. I sadly have no idea how to 4/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

train your mind into doing this. I struggled with it till I was 13 I think and tried every medical help there was... maybe you should 5/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Start with setting an alarm after like 3-4 hours after going to bed and get used to interrupting your sleep.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You say "you've been trying to stop". How?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

various methods i mentioned in the description

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hmmyeah that is a problem. I don't have a solution. But, you should start working out. Being fit compensates for some lack of confidence.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's far from a final solution, but when faced with things you cannot change, focus on what you can :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I will change it, i know it will stop. i used to do a lot more exercise than i do now but since my semester is about to end i think i will

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

get a gym membership

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Keeping it a secret isn't doing you any good. Open up, if people care about you, they won't care about this at all

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

the only ones who know about this are my parents but i seriously cant tell others, i am terrified. ill probably tell others once i overcome

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this problem

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really hope you can overcome not just the medical problem, but the stress and anxiety it's causing you. My dad was a lifelong 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bedwetter, we all knew, including his girlfriends and his friends, and we never thought any less of him for it, any more than any condition

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it sounds as he was very brave/open. i am not like that so i will have to fix it before i can talk about it. its not easy for me

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a lady, I say it shouldn't keep you from being intimate with someone. I'd never hold a medical issue against a man

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

and you most certainly shouldn't be ashamed/embarassed

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

it makes me feel very insecure so i dont think ill be able to be in a relationship with someone until i fix this.i cant help feeling thisway

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

my ex had severe psoriasis (to where he left large flakes all over my bed) and I never thought twice about it, I was just happy he was there

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I understand that, believe me. But I genuinely hope you find a woman who can help you out of that :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

you seem to be a nice person, thanks for commenting

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I know it's easier said than done, but throw yourself out there man. a genuine human being won't give two fucks about your medical issues

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

OP, i see this can be embarrassing, I think when the right person comes along you will be ok though. GOod luck OP!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I know at least 3 people who wet the bed into their tweens and I had issues in my early twenties (possibly related to diabetes). It happens.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As for fixing it, I had four "go pee" alarms through the night so i would never need to pee at night. I think it trained me to just do it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i tried waking up every 4 hourse before, it didnt work and i hated it. i will now try waking up every 2 hours and hopefully train myself

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i am determined to stop this

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Two to three hours is my magic number. I struggled to actually get up for like two months but then it was just habit.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and do you still need to wake up at night or is the problem completely gone?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have read that bedwetting can be caused by bladder nerves becoming numb from pressure due to constipation. You may not know you are (cont)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

constipated and may even have regular daily bowel movements. The best way to dx seems to be abdominal XRay. It can be solved with (cont)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

under a doctor's care with enemas and laxatives. With no other explanation, ask your doctor to order an x-ray. Also you are a bit old (cont)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but consider having this treated by a pediatrician; they might have more awareness about undiagnosed constipation. (cont)
