Admirable that you want to save them from that, but honestly if you feel the need to drink that much you might want to talk to someone.

I think wrong meme?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You're doing it right, darlin. No need for a confession. Keep up the good adulting.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

true but you need to drink less

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is maturity. It's the same reason why I put a little Jack in my Coke. They never see the bottle.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But there are other ways to enjoy King Alcohol than going full Homer.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Blind them and do as you please.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That doesn't make you a bad person.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

If you drink to pass out, you may have a problem. Drinking a couple to relax is fine. Drinking to get shitfaced or to pass out is a problem.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Protip: plant the empty beer bottles around your sleeping kids so that everyone will think they drank all the beer and passed out.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats one reason i dont drink so some one can call me anytime and i can be there...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see many people on Imgur make excuses for alcoholism like it's some big joke. Your kids WILL find out eventually and it will crush them.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

My dad was the same way, I can't be that way b/c my 1 kidney can't process alcohol at all and even if I could, good alcohol is expensive imo

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If the people around you think that THAT is maturity, surround yourself with better people dude. Alcoholism fucking wrecks people.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man, it must have been tough to admit that.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you adult like a bad ass.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad's always had his 'space' where he can go and do whatever. It was the basement when I was little, then he built his studio in the back

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get help. There will reach a time where regardless of how well you think youve hid your alcoholism, they will know.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've seen another post like this where the wife would wake up early to clean up the bottles from the husband so the kids wouldn't see.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please tell me there is someone in the house who can take care of things in case something bad happens ?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well... that's something. Will you one day break their hearts?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I buy beer with whatever money I have for "daddy's spending". Games, dip, beer, etc. No money no drinkkng

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You could teach your kids how to drink responsibly.

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 3

My quote with drugs in high school "it's possible to be responsible with irresponsible thkngs."

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

If you think it's impossible to be responsible with alcohol, you should never drink.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I can't argue with that. That certainly seems to make sense.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Think you're leaving some shit out of this. Dad passed out surrounded by a couple beer bottles isn't traumatic.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Burning in his hand almost nightly. It's my image of my father even though he's a good person. I don't want that for my kids.2/2

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Never said it was traumatic but it's a part of my childhood. It was a nightly thing to see dad asleep in his chair a cigarette still 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

If it bothers u its a problem. Please get counseling. It helps w controlling underlying causes rather than symptoms (stopping cold turkey).

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is called "making a deal". It starts that you hide it from your family, but trust me it will evolve into something worse over time.

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

Not everyone. I've been in the same place for 20 years, high paying job (like, 95th percentile), quality family life. Don't project problems

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Alcoholism is a degenerative disease and gets worse over time. There is no control over it. All semblance of control is a fabrication.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Pretty sure the many alcoholics who have stayed sober for decades would disagree. It's always there, but there is control.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get some help my friend. There will be a day where this will impact your life, and thus the life of your kids. Good luck, its a tough path.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Source: my partner is currently in rehab and I grew up with alcoholic parents.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Live life, man. If it turns into a problem, get help. If not, enjoy having kids that never see a drunk dad. Both great options

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

So high functioning alcoholism is a nuisance more then a problem?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 8

Unfortunately things are more than likely to escalate. Seems like you are in control, but you are not. Hope you get help. Wish you the best.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't thinking crushing a six pack and passing out after his kids go to sleep, on his days off is that bad. Certain book I read agrees

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

...Is it the Bible?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends entirely on the person. Some stay right where you are for decades, others spiral down and lose everything.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My wife is under orders to raise the warning flag if she thinks I'm slipping, and it just hasn't happened in 20 years.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah thats what maturity is....not sure what you are confessing here.

10 years ago | Likes 517 Dislikes 12

Yea I mean +1 for doing the right thing.....but -1 for such a clear incorrect use of this meme.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The confession is he's a closet alcoholic.

10 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 2

On the nosey.

10 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 3

But even then, it sounds so soothing.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

You have a fun username. Also, maybe get help?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I pass out on the couch surrounded by beer bottles. The difference is my kids are asleep.

10 years ago | Likes 106 Dislikes 11

As someone that spent numerous nights putting their dad to bed. Keep in mind they will reach an age where they know what is happening.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd say you have every right to pass out on the couch surrounded by beer bottles. What you're doing is being a great dad.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would be better not to do that, sure. But you're doing a good thing for a good reason. Trying to be a better dad than you had is noble.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Like, nobody is perfect, but it takes a lot to go beyond the examples you grew up seeing.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

alcoholism is when you don't feel in control/can't control it and it is negatively affecting your life. It's not a huge slip to that point 1

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but right now it seems you're not there and worrying about the possibility is the only way to prevent it. Keep hard lines and stick (2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

with it. Get help if you need it and be there for your kids. (3)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

still not sure what the confession is. what you are doing is the mature thing. You are literally stopping your alcoholism while your kids

10 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 11

are around....you sir are a mature adult.

10 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 6

No. You think alcoholism won't still affect his family even if he hides it? Fuck off. The mature thing to do is get better and he knows that

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gtfo, dude basically confessed that he is an alcoholic, only that he waits for his kids to be asleep. It doesn't make you mature (1/?)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It makes you still have a problem. However he is considerate to his children's health which is mature, but unless he fix the problem (2/3)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But still doing it is a problem right? I mean shit what decent person can't just go to bed when their tired and just passes out?

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 7

If it was a problem you wouldnt do it. You would quit for your kids. But eaitger way you are being mature about it. Just make sure /2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you considered seeing a doctor? If the alcohol is self-medicating a sleep issue, there may be a healthier fix. And alcoholism is best

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plenty of people. Being a mature adult doesn't mean your actions are always just, but that they're not absurd. You're clearly in control.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

So from what I've seen it seems unhealthy drinking is tolerable as long as the damage is restricted to self damage. It's interesting.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Does it cause you personal or professional problems? If not, you're likely fine. But if you're concerned about it consider talking about it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I don't think it's alcoholism if you don't drink all day. I like getting tanked before bed. But I can't fall asleep on couch.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...um... maybe don't drink to blackout levels? You can have a beer or two on weeknights and not have it be a thing.

10 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 6

And if you can't handle yourself (stop yourself), just don't drink at all.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Nope. It's why I wait until I'm off the next day. If I have one I drink till hammered. I've tried just having a couple but my anxiety peaks

10 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 10

I do the same thing. Someone hands me a twelve pack, guess what? I'm drinking twelve

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's called self-medicating anxiety. Get help, I worked in a rehab and alcoholism is crazy deadly.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I buried my dad at 12. Never knew he had a problem. I picked out his casket. Please don't do that to your kids!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What happens if something happen to your kid one night and you're too drunk to handle it?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's a really bad sign.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

DUde, get help.

10 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 5

Why? Seems like he handles it responsibly on its own.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 23

Because he is destroying himself both physically and mentally??????????????????

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

Says who?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

Me too. It's called alcoholism. I'm not ok with it but it's who I am.

10 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 1

At least you realise it, at best that means one day you'll be ready to change it

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Hope so. Much like op it's in check in that it's not ruining my life right now. But it has in the past and it may in the future.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It took a year and a half to attempt quitting after I realized I was an alcoholic. Today marks 76 days without a drink. Do it MartynMage!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fingers crossed for you, random person. Don't let it win, ever.
