Won't matter when Trump is gonna declare a national abortion ban and order the military to summarily execute anyone who tries to get one or helps them do so, will it?
Now the US Supreme Court will revisit abortion so fast you will get whiplash. Expect something like "This is too important an issue to be left to individual States". That is code for "voting citizens have no right to try to overrule this court on legal issues".
Theoretically, federally overturning any states abortion law would have to be a constitutional amendment now though, no? Per the 10th amendment - that right/restriction isn’t explicitly stated in the constitution so it falls to the states? Aka - States are allowed to make their own laws to govern themselves, so long as there isn’t a federal amendment that inherently or fundamentally contradicts it. Someone please (politely) correct me if I’m mistaken on this one.
Bye bye gay marriage, too. Expect massive voter disenfranchisement in every election going forward, too. Just absolutely naked gerrymandering, poll taxes, if they bother at all. Bye Title IX. Bye EPA, FDA, USDA.
The 10th Amendment is only part of the constitution if the Supreme Court doesn't invalidate it as invalid. On what grounds, you ask? Why, on the grounds that they don't like it!
60% is considered "overwhelming" and it would show that 60% of the state would want that to happen. its scummy because 51% should always be the deciding factor but I guess they would say "but that means not all Floridians want it" Im too tired to type only had less than 5 hours of sleep but hope you get what Im saying

Just making sure, this is not one of those horrendous "FOR... a bill that would bla bla bla effectively remove the RIGHT TO ABORTION" questions, right?
MD resident here. The bill amends the state constitution to include the right to "make and effectuate decisions to prevent, continue, or end one's own pregnancy."
Full text of the question: "The proposed amendment confirms an individual's fundamental right to reproductive freedom, including but not limited to the ability to make and effectuate decisions to prevent, continue, or end the individual's pregnancy, and provides the State may not, directly or indirectly, deny, burden, or abridge, the right unless justified by a compelling State interest achieved by the least restrictive means."
I didn't read the link, but I agree with those exceptions you've mentioned. My gut tells me 90%+ terminated pregnancies are perfectly healthy human beings, and simply the result of an 'inconvenience' for the Mother. I'm against those 90%+ terminations of human lives.
Okay but those exceptions aren't being made and women have already been dying and instead of giving even an iota of a fuck about it, you're contributing to the shit rhetoric that is murdering these women by just making snarky comments like "Go murder!", so no, I don't believe you that you agree or care.
I think there is a grey area in most yes/no topics. If I were to choose the less-then 10% of unrealized abortions causing the mothers to die (from banning all abortions), vs 90% of unborn humans being killed (all abortion being legal), that's a tough decision to make. Who's life do we want to choose to end?
Again, you DON'T CARE if women die. You have zero qualms. You're happy to say "Fuck abortion, yayyyy~" fully knowing that women die, and all you have to say about it is, "Hmm, but I think it's morally gray." You are happy to murder women. Trolley problem in front of you, you shoot confetti as you pull the trigger.
You literally don't have to choose. You can scream at your congresspeople about how women need emergency healthcare, and still insist on other restrictions if you want, but you literally don't care that women are dying. You're not even considering that as an option.

not gonna do anything if trump wins tho....

Missouri also. Despite living in a backwards red hellhole, we at least stood up for abortion rights.
binekarlsson360
Way to go, Maryland!
arumunus
California also got "marriage between two people" in the state constitution, which was nice to see.

At least there's that, but we'll see if it lasts.

a Repugnican federal government will over ride the state's protections for abortion.

Even Missouri voted to overturn their ban. But not Florida. Smh

Sad that this won't matter soon

Nebraska was close until the votes from our west came in. My only hope of pregnancy is IUI or IVF and I'm terrified.

I'm sorry. I hope you find a path of your choosing that works for you.

What percentage is required for it to pass?

Trump's going to control both houses of Congress too, btw, and maybe Vance after him.

I'm proud to be a Marylander with this at least.

Missouri is on track to repeal their abortion ban. I'm actually shocked it's likely to happen.

Doesn't matter. It will be overturned by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional. On what grounds, you ask? Why on the grounds that they don't like it.
Aimlockbelch
It’s not in the Constitution. The 10th amendment is, tho!

Shame for Florida. feel bad for them

We were so close. I still don't understand needing 60%. 51% means the majority wants it. Why 60%?
Redshadow09

Marikhen
Possibly margin of error issues. Probably "overwhelming" or "super" majority because that 51% might only be a 45% if all eligible people voted.

It's not. There's no trickery with this one.

I would say there's some PR trickery in the colour choice for their bars.
Salticido
Well, I meant trickery in the wording of the question.
LeftenantSarnie
Yea I got that.

It's also not strictly abortion. It's reproductive rights in general, so my understanding is this also includes contraception, IVF, etc.
