4 years worth of hair

I donated 12 and 16 inches worth of hair to Wigs for Kids on Saturday! I encourage others with luscious lion manes to donate as well - not to Locks of Love though. It's commonly thought that Locks of Love gives free wigs to people suffering from hair loss due to an illness. In reality, they charge upwards of $1600 a wig, and the patient needs to apply for a wig. If the pt doesn't have a good prognosis, they are declined a wig. But, Wigs for Kids gives wigs for free to children suffering from hair loss due to a disease. Please donate hair or money to this company! While your hair grows back, many kids suffer from a lack of confidence because they don't have any hair. That's all - have a wonderful day!!

EDIT: I see a lot of people pointing out that Locks of Love isn't a total scam, which I'm not saying it is, but I would like to point out to people that it is not what it is typically thought to be, and of the two, I think Wigs for Kids is a better charity. In my research, I did not see that they do not always charge full price for wigs. I apologize for the misunderstandings!

Now who are we going to get to play Morticia for Halloween this year?

WOO!! I donated 14" this year to Wigs for Kids after growing it out from a pixie cut! Took 3 years. Now I'm back to the pixie! Awesome!

Pantene beautiful lengths is a good organization. not locks of love-they stink. And I don't chop my hair unless I have enough to donate.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

I donated 12 inches of my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths last weekend!

Informational and helping to change people's lives, you're doing a good thing, OP!

My hair is roughly 12 inches long & im growing it out just a bit more so I can donate it and have a little bit left over. I like it short.

I actually prefer the 'After/short hair'...you look great

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's awesome OP, I don't cut my hair but every 3- years and when I do, I donate it too :D

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Awesome job @op !! I gave 26cm (approx 11 inches) to Little Princess Trust in the UK (there is no free wigs association in France) :)

You are great! As a bald lady I know how much this means to those kids. You just made someone smile.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Congratulations on becoming a mom!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You are awesome and your hair looks amazing!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

TIL that locks of love are shitty

10 years ago | Likes 260 Dislikes 10

No... http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/locksoflove.asp But if you're going to donate, WigsForKids is probably still the best place.

i donated to pantene beautiful lengths. i believe they're "good" as well

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That was quite the read

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Thanks for the homework

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

TLDR for me brah?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

1. I don't know what the obsession is with long hair, but I had cut and donated my hair, and cried after. Mostly because I'm self-conscious

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And I didn't have my hair to cover me anymore. It went from mid-chest to jaw line. I honestly don't think I'd be able to do it again. :/

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see where you're coming from because people do have attachment issues with hair - i cut a lot off 5 years ago and cried for the same

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reasons, but this time I didn't because honestly the thought of the donation helping some kid makes it worth it - it always grows back :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm actually looking to donate. Have well over a foot long. The only thing is that it's probably too damage. Anyone know is this a thing?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

well if your hair has been bleached or dyed they will not accept that portion of it, if that's what you mean

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I look into it more. And no it's not dye, bleach or process in any way. Just that I didn't take care of it much. I have very thick hair.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It tangles a lot and mostly split ends I believe. Of course I wash and comb it best I can. But there is no mentioned if that kind of damage

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would say have your hair trimmed to get rid of some split ends and look into a leave in conditioner or oil of some kind to treat yo mane

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is accepted.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have ginger hair. Do you think those kids would have confidance if I donated or feel souless?

10 years ago | Likes 187 Dislikes 0

My mom and sister both have gorgeous red/orange hair and I've always been envious, I'm sure someone will love it!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They'll have confidence because they'll look amazing. We're hotter than everyone else, yo! You know this!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol

SCULLY! SCULLY!

SCULLAAAAAAY

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I love your honesty. I'm a bit of a daywalker. Also a dude but can't really grow my hair massive long or have shaggy hair for work so :/

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I wonder if you explained it was for a good cause they might let you?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably not. I work at a 5 star hotel and last thing they need is young adult with long ass hair and a scruffy beard. Its in our rules.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, for what it's worth, if someone who worked for me asked, I'd be inclined to say yes as long as it didn't look unkempt.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is so sweetly self-deprecating that I assume it can't be true. On the outside chance it is, I assure you many would love your hair.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

no worries! People have been joking for years with me about the soulless thing that I've never taken it as offensive.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As I read again, I see I misinterpreted. There are many fierce girls who would LOVE red hair. Sorry if I sounded patronizing before.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But yes I'm actually a ginger. I think I'll donate my hair

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I relate. My brother calls me daywalker because I have freckles but dark blonde hair.
