Watching it at this speed is like a battle in FF6.

I admire how other people can be team players for the beauty of the collective. I'm too egotistical, subversive, and anti-stablishment for that. I wish I was a lot more cooperative.

Put her in a white evening gown. She'll fit right in at that ball

That are the debutants at the start of Vienna Opera Ball, 2024. Original speed with original music (sadly with commentator speaking): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iMEn98k4Wg

Found the video at regular speed: https://youtu.be/-iMEn98k4Wg?si=RXVDLr0PfnhdqGmR

That one lass in the red dress fucking up the whole pattern.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One little mistake.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah yes - society pressure and rituals to be accepted at your level of society. Had to do something similar ( though way lower on the social scale) when i was a teenager and hated every second of it. Felt like a horse being paraded about for the benefit of others and to avoid being bad mouthed ( which everybody still does for the tiniest of things). I have avoided such things ever since.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There's social pressures and rituals to be accepted anywhere, it doesn't always manifest as dancing but you'll still be jumping through hoops to fit in and make it seem like you belong.

They're so fast. Much wow

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guys I think this video might have been sped up.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

That’s cool.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is it odd that the girls dance together, but the guys just shuffle in a line at the same time?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That explains the famous line from the all male group LMFAO: "every day I'm shufflin'!"

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you know that the rich are also mostly conservative to the bone can you imagine how many aneurysms you'll get when they see two young men dancing together hand in hand?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The girl in the red coat moving in the middle of the black-and-white image makes me a bit uncomfortable. Not sure why.

well, except for the waltzing bits

Shit, is this what they mean by foreplay? I'm learning that I've been doing it all wrong.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It is man. Especially when money and status get involved. Human mating rituals are wild.

Okay, what kind of weird cult religion wedding is this? Moonies?

2 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 3

no, just a different culture (probably a somewhat isolated culture associated with certain time period, location, and wealth status)

Almost looks like a regency debutante ball reenactment?

2 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 2

No? They wouldn't all be wearing the same dresses, all in white

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They actually aren't all the same, though they look close due to the color and movement. If you pause it, the column second from the legt gives the best example if you look at the shoulders/necklines of the dresses.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Isn't that a bit childish cultish?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yes.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It‘s not a reenactment. This is a serious yearly event in Vienna, Austria (Wiener Opernball). The young people are „officially“ „entered“ into „high society“ here. It‘s a tradition, but one that is extremely anachronistic.

Why do you use quotations like that?

Shit, what *languages* do quotations like that?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

German keyboard here. Too lazy to change it 😉

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What I want to know, is if a person of this language/culture were to do the air quotes gesture with their fingers, would they have one hand high and one hand low?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Funny enough, we use both hands up as usual (Germany). The lower quotation marks are just a typographical convention (i.e. used with printed text). Still easier than the French Variant «quoted text».
