Goddam. The blue through the glass is terrifying

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guys people did this in wooden boat. Can you even imagine the size of their balls?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FFG's for a few years at sea. In pretty much any storm in the Atlantic this is a regular occurance.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I counted down a few times but I got there eventually!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

now I see why you baton down the hatches

That bow is no place to take a smoke break

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

those poor seamen, almost getting swallowed up like that...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

God I remember this. These storms were awesome on a Navy ship.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Made me say wooo...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was so much fun driving through them. We sued to take bets on how high a wave would get.

One Mississippi...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

holy fuck

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While this is happening, some poor private is tasked with mopping the deck between waves.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The camera was actually submerged for a second!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You count very slowly...

Do you have link to video?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought it was an infinite loop and nothing was going to happen...

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I counted each time the boat dipped and it worked out.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

13 was an accurate count +1

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Your seconds are wayyy off

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

As a former mariner with much heavy weather experience, I can assure you that "rolling" in sea like this is much more worrying!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're "Rolling" in THESE seas....whoever has The conn needs to be: 1.relieved, and 2. disqualified. (Or fired, as appropriate.)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Quite, but I never found pitching like this particularly worrying, apart from the loss of bridge windows which upsets those upstairs

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FYI both commercial and military experience btw

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit. Why do they think there are DRAINS in their decks? Just for swabbing???

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey listen, don't be mean, they need love and care remember, looking out of a window and putting lines on a map is very hard work!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The graphics are pretty realistic, what game is this

9 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

The Game Of Life. It's kinda fun, but you get random players in your run. You also always die at the end, so make it count.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

LIFE MOTHER FUCKER! *throws bread at a criminal* sorry I meant loaf.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Life: It's Happening Now

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Is that DLC or something?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It does have a cost, can be very expensive at times.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"You can be a winner at the game of life!"

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm going to sue them for false advertising

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Makes me think of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeXQBHLIPcw

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How strong is that frontal turret; the wave knocked the barrel upwards, but you'd expect repeated waves like that to eventually rip it off?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, you shoot projectiles with it, so it should take a lot of banging.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Internal pressure of a specifically designed projectile is not quite the same as several tons of water force acting along its length.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have to believe when designed they said."it's going on a ship" and took that into consideration as well

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Point taken.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Giggity

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's probably designed to be moved by large forces of water pushing on it, more damage would be done if it remained stationary

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I figured that would be the case, but it can only turn elevate so far before water starts forcing it against its mounting.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The idea is that it's range of motion with resistance and dampeners should withstand the second of impact from the water

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to remember that even though it's only about a 5" gun just firing it places thousands of tons of force on the mountings

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see. Still, it almost seems like it'd be smart to point the gun towards the stern, and have every last safety turned on so it doesn't pop.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It may, but for a gun designed to fire 7000 rounds exerting 9217 kilo newtons per shot without major repair should be fine.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the 7000 rounds is because of barrel rifling wear, the mounts should be good indefinitely

Tiny Octopus was on a carrier during a hurricane. One of the worst places to be is below decks at the bow. Worst case of seasickness ever.

9 years ago | Likes 438 Dislikes 15

Did Tiny Octopus barf?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Which one? and which hurricane?

You would be wrong. On deck you are 2 point connected, and 2 much shit is going on for you to have time to be sick.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Our aircraft carrier was caught in a typhoon for a week, we had waves over the flight deck and fish being washed inside the ship.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good to know I can leave for months and you are still doing the same bit! you have dedication I don't understand sir, i'll give you that

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

CARRIER HAS ARRIVED!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You make us BigOctopussies proud.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was on an LHD during my meu. Only ship that decided to go through the storm instead of around. The boat rocked would be an understatement

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was on a Minesweeper in the area of a cyclone. Ship had 8 foot draft and made of teak...like a cork in a toilet. Everyone was sick.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I believe.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I legit almost got seasick watching this gif.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Happy cakeday Tiny Octopus!

9 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

Best ride ever! I was on a Destroyer in a hurricane and my workstation was in the bow just above the the sonar. I LOVED it!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ugh. The foc'sle was the fucking worst. Some asshole got the idea in his head that we should have our DADT repeal training there 1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

During high seas. Vomit everywhere. Best part was they had just repainted the whole damn thing the week before.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Footage of seasick @tinyoctopus.

9 years ago | Likes 136 Dislikes 0

@tinyoctopus which carrier? I did my first sea tour on CVN77.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Tiny Octopus was on the Truman at the time. He also heard horror stories about the Bush and non-working toilets. Sympathies. :D

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

it was a rough tour, Mr. Octopus. Many a deck drain was peed in, and many a plastic bag of poo was deep-sixed.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would like to take this time to thank TinyOctopus for his service!

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

I'll allow it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How did a Tiny Octopus get seasick?!

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

He wasn't one then. That was in his previous carrier.

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

At least his previous career, but it could have been his previous carrier too...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mmm yeah. Something like that.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was think about joining the navy. Then I remembered that one time I was in a lil row boat. Had a panic attack, jumped in gator infested

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

2/ Water to swim back to shore. I don't like boats. Joined the army instead

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's an Army decision making process if I've ever seen one.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How are those things for stability. I've only done destroyers and those things are ridiculous tippy.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I remember the "Sonar Dome Shimmy" on my last ship. Sonar dome comes out of the water and the whole ship shakes as it comes down.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

carriers still move in heavy seas but it's way more gradual. I fell off a stool once but that was during a North Atlantic wintertime storm..

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Carriers are really stable, it's just cutting through them creates a lot of pitch. Not a lot of list (maybe 10d), just lots of up and down.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

That sounds pretty decent then. Worst I've had was 45d either side for three hours straight. Not fun in the slightest.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd expect them to be stable, given their role.

Well, I heard they time take offs when the thing pitches upwards, is that true?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@TinyOctopus should have tried being on a surfaced fast attack sub in state 4 and 5 seas. Vomit was everywhere.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

under the sea, under the sea, its where you want to be. down there its better, down where its wetter, you can take it from me.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Submariners once! Submariners twice! Holy Jumpin' Jesus Christ! We go up and we go down! We don't even fuck around! Ooooooogah! Ooooogah!1/?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

DIVE! DIVE! DIVE!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good god. Tiny Octopus has to wonder what a canister of bubbleheads was doing on the surface in those conditions.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I rode a fast attack through the heart of a big ass storm in the Atlantic. It was at this moment this dinosaur decided navy air was for him

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Some asshole Nuke O-ganger (Fuck you STILL, Engineer!) decided we needed to scram for a drill in the middle of the IO during state 4 seas1/2

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The fucking CO about KILLED that idiot! I have never seen a Bird that pissed off....

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We were coming back into Norfolk, it was crazy, when the CO said we were gonna submerge and go back out, people cheered. Only time I ever1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2seen sailors cheer for staying out at sea.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or a free amusement park ride!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The big problem for Tiny Octopus was no windows. So the room didn't appear to move, but it was. a lot. up and down. up. and. down. up. down.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Like a super quick elevator ride to the second floor and back down to the first and so on. Da?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

relatively slow elevator going up, then quickly crashing down. But general idea, yes.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

With a twist.
