I thought a crumb on my phone was a drone. "That idiot missed a turn!"

I'm convinced these people operate at a higher clock speed than the rest of us.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's way too fast for me to keep track of, let alone control one.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks....stupid.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're going to use goggles for them at that point why not just play a video game and save time and money?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like this :D? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyGe8nokACs (tbh, this could end up being bullshit moneygrab, though I'm hoping it wont)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Real life beats any game physics.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

maybe cos people will watch this? I don't wanna watch someone play a video game but the drones look cool to watch

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you dont get to tinker with the drone

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The red one wins, if I recall 40k correctly...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was over faster then the first time I had sex...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Podracing is actually more similar to wing racing rather than quadcopter

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"And crashes are common" *does not show us a crash* Me: I am disappoint.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Now THIS is POD RACING!"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ya'll laugh now until the cops are chasing you down for stealing a slushie with HoverCop 3000 from the precinct across town.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only propellers but no jet engine?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This shit was on ESPN!!! That was the first time I heard of it, several months ago.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can we all agree we are living in the future? I mean look at this!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would get SO fucking motion sick

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck podracing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

more like enders game i reckon. remotely controlled

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not a new thing, has been going on professionally in Dubai and America fore years, not to mention the German league

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pod racing: George Lucas showing that he can take even the coolest concept and suck the fun right out of it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I would rather see drone racing where the drones have to fly themselves. It'd be really cool and fast like those sumo robots.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More more

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is actully like miniature car racing

8 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 3

RC racing an actual thing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is actually like fucking awesome and makes me want to buy one.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This is actually not like RC racing.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Except you have another axis to worry about

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Air racing is 3d.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which makes it more challenging and fun

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It can't be that hard, it's just lift versus drag and rotation

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

Yeah and cars are just wheels and friction.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry, was quoting a Farrelly brothers movie

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well then I should be the one apologizing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But a zip zap is soo much cheaper and has the added bonus of becoming shrapnel when stepped on.

No first person view racer with a good remote goes for around 300. You want fpv then its like another 800 for starting decent systems.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eachine wizard: $200 ready to fly. Fatsharks: $300. Charger+batteries: $100. And if you don't like it, the fatsharks will sell easily

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never seen a more appropriate use for this gif.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to do this in my families bar and chant "Nana gets drunk! Nana gets drunk" she hated it

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How much $$ to own a full set racing drone?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check banggood.com eachine wizard and eachine diversity goggles. Set you back 300 and you have a decent beginners setup.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How are the drones able to transmitt video quick enough for really fast manuvers

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Analog FM transmitters. Shit quality but only 20ms latency. The only HD option currently has more than 3x the lag.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Drone racer here. Its 5,8 Ghz, fm and am was for control transmission 10 years ago. Now video is at 5.8 and control at 2,4

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Drone racer here as well. FM doesn't refer to a frequency, but how data is encoded and sent. FPV transmits with FM on the 5.8 GHz band.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Here's the quality the pilots see: https://youtu.be/WRGrfSYpIWg

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

So you mean to say that they use

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

don't need HD to see where you're going.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It would be nice though :D

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Question: How modifiable are the drones? Is everyone racing with the same gear, or could one team get an engineering advantage?

8 years ago | Likes 270 Dislikes 1

This specific league uses their own uniform quadcopters that every racer is required to use. Look up Drone Racing League

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PUT SOME NOS ON DEM SHITS!!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soon there will be missiles and brrrtttts

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

One can hope!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Drones are supplied for the races so everyone gets the same one. Comes down to pure skill of the pilot and knowledge of the course

8 years ago | Likes 196 Dislikes 0

Do they get to use their own controller? Or get controller to practice

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

They never really showed the controllers but I'm guessing they're the same. They wear virtual goggles though so it's first person racing

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

These guys run a spec class but the ones you would build and race have millions of options. Motors, props, motor controllers, frame, batts..

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For racing like that right now they are all given the same spec racer. Other divisions in the U.S have custom model race's, though it seems》

8 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

For the time being the largest races with the massive tracks all use the same model racer. In fact the dlr has several of the same color 》

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Quad so they each have a fresh quad for every heat.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Speaking of unfair advantages, wonder if there is drug testing for the pilots. Would something like cocaine or adhd meds help?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Hell yah!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some dude might have jetlag, the other might have had a good night sleep. Advantages come in many forms

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the world finals 400m sprint! On the left we have **** Who

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

had a really good sleep, on the furthest right we have *****, vivid steroid user.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well for most it's an if everyone has access to them. Like sniping let's you take things to calm your heart.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Something that increases focus or reaction time would possibly create unfair advantage?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell yah!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think this was an issue in esports at some point. Aderall was being used for focus etc. i feel like it would be a similarly cheating here

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

They had to ban alcohol in target shooting because it makes your hands steadier.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was Aderall used in actual competitive scenes? I know it was a big problem for over exerting on scrims and training leading up to..

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Adderall can help you focus but it can also make you twitchy as fuck.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Snackrifices

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was on it from 1st grade to the end of hs and I can confirm that it is just a low dose of legal meth

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A pro cod player I know tells me that all the top teams use it. He tried it and said its broken as fuck

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I take it on the regular. There are things it helps with and things it doesn't. You certainly know you're on it though.
