Drone racer here as well. FM doesn't refer to a frequency, but how data is encoded and sent. FPV transmits with FM on the 5.8 GHz band.

They never really showed the controllers but I'm guessing they're the same. They wear virtual goggles though so it's first person racing

These guys run a spec class but the ones you would build and race have millions of options. Motors, props, motor controllers, frame, batts..
