I just happen to know what a wireless router is and where to find them...

Lol I was in Wal-Mart last week and 3 random people asked me questions. Which i answered as an IT guy and sold them stuff.

Watched my dad do this yesterday and it broke a language barrier at Home Depot. Took 10 seconds and before I caught on

I’m constantly doing that for Walmart employees. It’s weird, like, don’t you shop here too?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

a lot of best buy employees dont know shit

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I've done that as well with workers multiple times at the local Wegmans, since I'm there like 4-5 times a week picking up small shit.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One reason I didn’t want to quit my old job. I knew where everything was after 9.5 years.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I go to best buy just to do that

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They suck. I was looking for a cable, dude said they only sold it online. Dude dicks around on his handheld device and i look at the (1)

Section he’s standing in front of and it’s legit RIGHT FUCKING THERE. Like, am I wrong to be a little pissed? (2)

Always wanted to work in high ticket electronics. Nobody at the stores ever knows any details about their products. Sold 5 TVs to strangers

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This has happened to me twice. Once I helped a old lady pick out a chromebook and another was showing a teacher how to use mobile hot spot.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the name of the other man..... Albert

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You may spend too much time in Best Buy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe you should.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nah. Love my day job. Pays better too.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Once sold a pair of Solomon's to a guy at REI. I work at a local shop that specializes in hometown service. It was neat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Saturday I sold a notebook at Walmart... I kinda don't work there...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I called BB a few months back and was put on hold for 45 minute while they "find" someone, in that time I drove 15 to the nearest one 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

when I get there, there was a group of about 7 employees standing around talking. That was the first time I've ever asked to see a manager.

The next Harry Potter movie, "Wireless Routers and We're to Find Them."

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fantastic Wireless Routers and where to find them.

You kno de wey

I like telling people that Best buy price matches Amazon while they are at the register.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Only if amazon ships and sells it themselves, otherwise you get people pissed off that they can't get their price match

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Welcome to my Life at Home Depot and Lowe's. I've actually had employees tell customers to ask me. Don't work there, never have.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

12345 is not a secure password

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It happens, they dont often pay people to know as much as customers expect them too.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

And/Or the training/reference guides are hilariously out of date. The place I left last year had guides explaining the brand new HD-DVDs.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

In the last 10 years, BB started hiring sales people and not tech/computer people. More money and better looking staff, but no knowledge.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure this was the plot of a Big Bang theory episode

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Was gonna say "okay Sheldon"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I see you Sheldon. Bazinga!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I sometimes ask staff “excuse me, can I ask for your help or do you just work here?”

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I do this at home depot all the time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He might have worked in another department

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

Or he might have been new.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I’m glad someone said this. I hate when customers think just cause you work there you work in every department.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

It’s the same at my job! (hardware store in Aus) I work in admin and they get shit off when I can’t give advice on bloody power tools.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Surely then your job becomes to find someone who can help the customer??

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

It probably wasn't the first time you helped to guys get what they want ;)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This crap is why I enjoy shopping at places like Home Depot Me: uhh... where can I find these really specific screws? Them: “aisle 7 bay 2”

the training is as subpar as most other places but co-workers help each other and down time will make most good ones research their products

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

honestly it's fun telling someone the exact spot the single item they're looking for. it's worse when after the directions the say 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"so you're not gonna help me find it" like lady I just told you the exact pinpointed location, it's less than 15 steps from you right now.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd honestly say you're just getting lucky with the employees you ask. Haven't really gotten a newbie.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a good Home Depot. The one near me seems to have a customer avoidance policy. Our Best Buy too, for that matter.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I used to work at RadioShack and did this with our parts drawers. Felt good every time.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

one thing about home depots is they always carry square drive trim screws but if you ask no one has ever heard of them, and claim they don't

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can actually find the specific aisle/bay for your store location by looking up the item on their website

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My Home Depot, employées are playing hide and seek. I’m still seeking.

I'm one of those HD Employees!! -I always feel proud of myself for knowing right where something is. But for 40k+ products the app is great!

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Compare with Lowes. A buddy worked there. They had a game where the goal was to actively avoid helping people for as long as possible.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Not every Lowes, don't blanket every store across the country.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They'd dart around corners and hide when they saw people looking for help.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Just get the super useful app. Aisle, bin, map, how many are left. It’s seriously great

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I second that, use it all the time. No phone signal in the store, but log-in to their free wifi. Inventory not always accurate for qty < 5.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a target employee I do rely on our app to help a lot of guests find things. There's just too much product to know everything!

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Guests? Surely you're a corporate drone.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol I don't think I'll ever call someone a customer ever again after working here so long

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Home Depot employees are the best. I always wondered how they train them like this.

8 years ago | Likes 170 Dislikes 0

Now if only I could fucking find one...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...Can I get some of those guys in my city? Walk in, not a single employee in sight. Need help, they tell you an isle number but isles

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

have no numbers...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look up.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

They know because they either packed them down or they had to run around for 10 minutes trying to find them for the person before you.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

the training is as subpar as most other places but co-workers help each other and down time will make most good ones research their products

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Probably force them to do Ad until they've memorized the entire store.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Home Depot employee, there is not formal training for anyone to learn where items are. We just learn by walking the aisles a lot

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

we had weekly training vids we had yo complete, and were required to cross train in the depts on either side of us.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don't train them, I worked Lowe's for two years. Basically you wander around till you know where everything is at

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've worked there in the seasonal department. After 1 week I somehow knew everything about flowers. Not sure how

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

no idea but if i had to guess i would make them rotate stocking different sections of the store so they eventually learn the whole place

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its because they dont have a high turnover rate. Hearsay, but friend of mine said they actually treat employees alright. So they actually1/2

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 1

They dont really, most raises you're basically fighting with your fellow associates for that extra quarter vs nothing

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Stick around for awhile. Experience is the best trainer.

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

i used to work there. if they paid better, i'd still be there. they treat people well.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My guess is they start by hiring people who are already interested in that stuff and are generally handy.

8 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 1

Most likely not, hell they might not even be in that department, but a seasoned employee will know most of the store and basic questions

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I worked there for 4 years. My prior experience was installing tile. I applied for flooring dept, they kept that open, put me in hardware.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I used to work at the hyper dumpo... the training is hours of videos, and having 50k ppl ask where stuff is. You learn quick...

8 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 0

* Quickly - kissy face
