On what sense are they 8 bit? Never understood it

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#9 Every single time. Gonna have to have a sit-down chat with the Fire Caste about ignoring the "no step" stencils on our hovertanks.

No grey Knights. That's a purging.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

HA, literally painting Warhammer right now.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8-bit, 16-bit 32-bit... are for the color palette. These GIFs are pixilated.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for total lack of zoom.

Remind me a bit of Dune 2 intro. "Vast armies have arrived. Now, three houses fight for control of Dune."

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I need more cutie tyranids :{

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They look way more than 8 bit, you mean pixel art?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I gotta say, the best Horus Heresy book is the one where the 4 assassins try to kill Horus.

This looks a little bit more high def than 8 bit

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 7

Yeah 16 bit

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

They likely have an 8 bit pallet, but I agree some of them are more similar to what ou would see on a 16 bit system.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Well, good to know for next time.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

To be honest I think this is the sweet spot for pixel art.

The last PC CPU with an 8-bit data bus was the 8088 and it still had a 16-bit architecture.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isn't the 8088 just a stripped down version of something else to cut down on pin count?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly. It's an 8086 with an 8-bit external data bus (so I/O and memory access took twice as many machine cycles).

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think it really counts as an 8 bit machine if it has a 16 bit ALU and registers, and just loads two bytes in a row of memory.

Whenever I see 40k posts it seems like a cool universe I'd like to get into but I have zero desire to paint miniatures. Help

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Start with the Horus heresy work your way up from there. Look at anything that interests you.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never played the tabletop and I'm still into 40k. Fair warning: a LOT of the lore is in flux atm, GW semi-relaunched the setting.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm just interested in cute monsters tbh. Tyranids! Also Felenids! :3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't paint miniatures at all. I just play dawn of war I and II. They were a good introduction for me.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Commission painters are a thing.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A very expensive thing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anything Abnett is worthwhile.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Start by reading a Sci-Fi series called “The Horus Heresy”, you can get books from the website blacklibrary.com or your local bookstore.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Horus Heresy who?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

play some videogames of warhammer they are nice or read some books to get started with the lore, best of luck with the universe of 40k

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Any suggestions on where to start? I'd definitely be interested in the books but it's overwhelming trying to get going

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I recently started reading the Horus Heresy series as a starting point for the franchise, it's pretty decent

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dawn of War 1: Winter Assault, or Dark Crusade. Soulstorm has more races but... oh god the story. It hurts.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Battlefleet Gotchic and Space Marine are also good games, if you prefer "naval" combat or third person action over RTS.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Start with the 40K wiki and just crawl through that for a while. It takes time but that and Arch Warhammer's lore videos help fill in stuff.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are some good book lists on various blogs, etc. (Don't have handy or I'd link) Google should find.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dan Abnett's Gaunts Ghosts series.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I started with Heroes of the Space Marines and Let the Galaxy Burn but most will probably recommend starting w/ The Horus Heresy story arcs.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hi there, i have a summary of WH40k Universe, timelines and factions i can PM you. Also has some book series recommendations included. LMK

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you want a comedic take on things, watch If The Emperor Had a Text To Speech Device. It takes liberties with telling it's own story 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But each episode has some actual lore. Plus, it can give you keywords and such to google like 'who are the primarchs'. Also, read the 2/?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1d4chan wiki on stuff since again, comedic spin. 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ciaphas Cain series! They're a humorous take on W40K world and they're really good. Besides that what faction interests you the most?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aliens? Humans? Space Marines? They all have their books. books about Space Marines are the most common, obviously.
