Truth be told, it's been YEARS since I took what *I* thought was a proper vacation. And I mean more than just heading up north for holidays and family birthdays.

Getting a hotel at the "local*" shore in early May is actually not as bad as I thought. Local being a 3 1/2 hour drive with ZERO traffic. Figured I could swing 3 nights, mid week.

Booked it - through AAA because for an extra $10 a night they let me cancel any time and I'm paranoid - and put in for the full week off at work. I believe this is critical, having a few days at the start and end of every vacation where you just...chill is critical. Lets you get in the vacation mindset at the start, and lets you take care of weekend sundries at the end.

But I got my beach chair, my fishing license is up to date, and my audiobook catalog is from here to Spain.

I want to use AAA for their travel deals, but seeing as I'm not a member nor do I have a license I can't

I'm glad you took time off, but really sad we know you're a fellow American by the way you call that a "proper vacation."

Enjoy it, and grab a drink/smoke/extra food serving for those of us who have never had a vacation lol

My last vacation was in 2020, hoping to get back to travelling someday.

I'm happy that you are able to take a few days off, but as a German i'm also sad that you live, where 3 days count as a "proper" vacation. A lot of employers here in Germany insist/encourage that their workers take at least 2, better 3 consecutive weeks of vacation at, to properly wind down from work.

I live in a civilised country where 3 nights at the beach is only a long weekend.

They won't need it. They are going at night. A weird time to visit the beach, but we shouldn't judge.

My last vacation was during the Boston marathon bombing. I was staying with friends in Boston, so it's easy to remember.

We always have a buffer day after we get back from vacation. Highly recommend for decompression. Congrats on your holiday!

Man... my last vacation was in 2007. Was going to spend a weekend at an amusement park with a friend last year but they jacked the prices so we didn't go.

I haven't been on a real vacation since 2013, the closest thing was a weekend in St. Louis for a convention. It just seems like an expensive relic of the past, these mythical vacations... Everyone deserves a few weeks off away from their normal lives. Heck, if it were up to me, if I had the power I'd make it MANDATORY to vacation away from work a few weeks out of the year. It's good for the mind, body and soul.

Don't forget to take a walk by the water for at least 20 minutes, barefoot. (Well, unless there are obvious hazards around or something.) Beach hotels are awesome, and the sound of the waves are just a nice thing to fall asleep to.

The hotel is within a block from the beach, so I fully plan to walk barefoot daily. I'm also hoping, with it being a block from the beach that means I get some wave audio 24/7.

I feel that. I've got two weeks off at the end of the month for a holiday in Tamriel. First decent (non-hospitalised) break in years.

You will never be on your death bed and think I should've worked more. Enjoy yourself!

Honestly, I saw the reverse - it motivated me. I spend a non-zero amount of time every night wondering...What do I do tomorrow? What do I do next week?

Gearing up for a trip to the coast soon-ish gives me a piece to look forward to. Gives me a reason to wake up in the morning.

I time my life by trips and the intervals between. Like the ticking of a mortal metronome.
