German Me 262 low on fuel trying to return to his base while being chased by an American P-51.

Me 262 and P-51 flying together for the first time in 70 years.

Shota him down!

"And it's the Luftwaffe, and the American Airforce, flying together at last".
trumpypumpyinyourrumpy
Nice. The me262 is my fav. Then me110.
CandidGamera
The Me 262 was ahead of its time for sure. It's even filmable with MODERN CAMERAS without weird shutter effects! Talk about foresight.
notafan89
So these guys are 90 years old flying by themselves.....? That's cool and all, but 90 years old though?
Tompfer
most pilots didn't shoot one another. Only a few aces did most of the shooting
FH2actual
God I would love to fly either one of those sweet ladies!
LilSaint001
Too me its looks like the American pilot is trying to shoot its engines down. Respect to that pilot, he’s trying not to kill the pilot
ASmitty56
Alright P-51, it's time to finish what you started. Jk
grendelb
The newly built Me-262s have been flying for over a decade now. I dare say they've flown with P-51s earlier than 2015.
ProphetChuck
I absolutely adore the ME 262, including the Heinkel He 100. Obligatory mention of the JU 87b Stuka, they produced them in my hometown.
northerngermany
They had fuel for about 70 years? Whoa!
Megarith
Finish what your grandfather started, Heinrich!
DrPhillipMahmoufWifarts
P51 C?
scienceandhistoryupvoter
Definitely looks like it. The "D" canopy was a lot more stream lined.
ChaotikWolfi
I'm always jealous of people that can afford a warbird, especially a beauty like a mustang, spitfire or 262
houseofnifty
Seeing a 262 still flying is like seeing an antique F1 car with an engine designed to eat itself after one race still driving
gordy77
P-51 what, though? D?
PleaseNotTheFace
The sound of a Merlin engine in a steep dive gives me a rager.
Zan11
Isn't that the plane that caught on fire if you stalled the engines?
hkgraduate
That wing flex on the Mustang!
710FPS
I think that's video distortion. The canopy seems to be flexing too and I'm pretty sure they didn't do that.
hkgraduate
Thought the vortex from the jet engine created that. Not sure though.
apeshit
Think so too. The wing seems too short to be able to have that flex...
barnwolf
I wonder how skilled the war thunder players are compared to WW2 fighter pilots.
barnwolf
They can get a lot more practice in than real pilots. It's not quite as realistic, but they could probably learn the rest and adapt quickly.
Rasdwatrium
Me 262 confirmed sexiest airplane ever.
Aeroengineering
You ever seen a Spitfire?
Rasdwatrium
Yes. I was not impressed when you compare it to this german Düsenjagdflugzeug.
imgonnawreckitagain
this is my response as well. Mark 22/24
TheNax
I find the ME 109 sexier than the spitfire tbh. ¯\_ツ_/¯
Aeroengineering
Must agree it has a nice look to it

AntiCircleJerker
Could that German jet toast that propeller-driven Mustang in a race if it wanted?
CalebKills
The 262 was prone to catching on fire on full throttle but yes
theoutdoorrageous
Well if you add a jato to the p-51 it could prob win
Trogdoooooooor
From what I know Mustangs were more Boom and Zoom fighters, so they actually could catch 262s if they dive in on them
Squiddlydouche
He's burn through his fuel too quickly I would aassume.
Howdoyougetaonearmedblondeoutofatreeyouwave
Yes
FrayAdjacent
The 262 was slow to accelerate and slow to decelerate. American pilots pounced on them as they landed because they were easy pickings then.
TheSaucyCrumpet
Depends, at lower speeds the Mustang has much better acceleration than the 262, but clearly a much lower top speed.
shimmernshine
In the 2nd gif, absolutely. In the first it was low on fuel and limping home
jerethdatiger12
If i was flying the mustang id slide in behind the 262 and open coms say 1 kill beers on you
NonreflectiveFrienderino
No. Toast is only for concentration camps.

Yes, but the you would need to spend 50 hours rebuilding its engines.
Gawky
but the jet is so bad at landing and takin off the regular planes would just keep circeling there and shoot them
0000013
The Allied had a special unit dedicated to take off Late to intercept ME262s returning to refuel.
AntiCircleJerker
Damnnnn. As I vet, I understand it's combat, but damnnnn, poaching cats low on fuel. DAMN, lol.
override367
War sucks, gotta kick them when they're down or they come back and take out a whole bomber crew
losboccacc
unless the race involves turning
RelentlessDevastation
The only thing the ME 262 better at then the P51 was speed, the ME could stay up a little over an hour the P51 was around 4 hours 1/
RelentlessDevastation
The P51's rate of climb was over 2 1/2 times faster, the ceiling was 4,335 ft higher then the ME 262.
ScootinNtootin
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it abhorrent to shoot down an injured craft trying to land after wwi???
HenryFondle
The pilot had to hold his hand out of the cockpit and yell "BASE!" for that rule to be in effect.
Shiverss
or lower landing gear as sign of surrender
Syralight
In which case he should probably stop flying towards his own base.
AzgarOgly
Not much in WWII. There where cases when a almost destroyed plane was spared, though that was considered unusual chivalry. //
AzgarOgly
Even if the plane is write-off, the pilot you spared would kill some of your buddies on a new plane week after.
XtraDownvote
1. This is WW2 not WW1 but generally that rule only applies if the plane is almost wrecked. In the first gif the Me 262 was trying to get1/2
XtraDownvote
back to base and not surrendering. 2/2
Bystandr
The thing considered universally abhorrent was shooting at someone who had bailed out,as the plane was the tactically valuable asset at that
Bystandr
point. There were cases of people spared thus, but it was the exception and not the rule.

Just seeing a 262 in flight is nuts by itself.
Mindyourowndamnbusiness
If I remember correctly you can get a kit to build a 262 or even get an existing plane and change the engines out for a more reliable engine
circlebreaker
But have you heard about the V-173?
I want to see one of these babies in action so damned bad...
squiddna
They carry enough fuel for, what, 20 minutes of flight?
ddTurak
Give a whole new meaning to boom and zoom.
fraggsta
I would imagine you're thinking of the Me 163, which was a rocket powered plane (not a jet). This did have very short flight times.
fraggsta
The 163 had 2 fuel sources which were mixed for combustion, they were highly reactive and would explode uncontrollably when exposed to air
fraggsta
Or each other. Fuelling involved 2 separate tankers for each fuel both approaching the plane separately, and dousing the area with water
fraggsta
After the first one had fuelled. There were many fuelling and launch related explosions..
Crazywelderguy
about an hour. It's operational range was 650 miles.
squiddna
That was with a drop tank right? I didn't see one here.
Crazywelderguy
He probably ditched them when they were empty, before attacking, or at the latest when he realized he needed to limp home. no sense in 1/
Crazywelderguy
having the extra weight or drag. Additionally, the drop tank was 53 US gallons, while the internal tanks were 530 US gallons. So the drop 2/
