To be clear, this was not a ballot drop box. Ballot drop boxes in the PNW were targeted. This was a homeless guy wanting to get arrested, and he burned a random mailbox. There just happened to have been ballots in among the other mail. If he had done the same thing a month earlier or later, it would have been an entirely different news story.

I'm going to assume that this homeless guy who is setting random stuff on fire just to get a place to sleep for the night likely is not too focused on the larger political implications of his actions. He's trying to get a sandwich and air conditioning. And it's important to note that despite OPs title, he did not burn a ballot drop box, he burned a regular mailbox.

Maybe, but it's also a really easy felony to commit. And whether he did or didn't do it for political reasons, he most probably inspired the copycat in Oregon and Washington that was definitely political.
I just think he has an unfortunate look to him that screams "I'm most adjusted to life behind bars," that's all.

He didn't target ballots, he targeted the mail, and that's an extremely important distinction. There were ballots present, because of the time of year, but Maricopa Country uses Ballot drop boxes just like Vancouver, WA. If it was genuinely an attempt to interfere with the election it seems much more likely he'd burn a ballot box.
