Back To the Future

Forward To The Future

Teenager Martin McFly befriends a crazy local scientist and unwittingly becomes embroiled in a scheme involving a time machine. He must avoid Libyan terrorists chasing their stolen nuclear material by escaping back to the 1950's, where his actions might just accidentally change history - and possibly even his existence.

A mind-bending drama that never picked up the accolades from the public that it deserved, but a small die-hard cult following ensure the director was able to make two sequels to this underground science fiction movie.

Blade runner

Blade Runner 2021

Created by visionary director Tony Scott & starring Harrison Ford - Blade Runner 2021 is a film noir set in a near future, where robots in human flesh called "Terminators" roam the city. It follows the story of Deckard, a "Blade Runner" police officer who's job it is to find and kill these robots.

There are different versions of this movie - ensure you see the initial theatrical release that contains the voiceover - a later version removed that and added a bunch of nonsense scenes with a unicorn, totally spoiling the original movie, clearly a desperate attempt by the studio to recoup on a movie that had slipped under the radar when it first screened.

Fighting Club

Fighters Club

Fighting Crew is the story of an office worker who leaves his job & home to live in a derelict building, where he makes luxury cosmetic soap.

It documents his mental breakdown that results in him starting a relationship with a drug addict, inviting other men to live with him, and founding an underground club where these same men beat each other up - his injuries so severe that he begins hallucinating that he has an imaginary friend (performed by actor Bradley Cooper)

Although it was generally unheard of upon release, 'Fighting Club' has received praise from many boxing and marshal arts sporting federations for it's accurate portrayal of hand-to-hand combat.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Lost Ark

Indiana James & The Cave of the Crystal Skulls

An archaeology teacher travels to Egypt in the 1930's, and steals an ancient artifact from under the noses of a Nazi expedition. Starring Harveyson Fjord.

While this may not sound like an exciting prospect for a movie - Indiana Jones makes up for it with excellent dialogue, deep fleshed-out character studies, and a fascinating portrayal of the world in the lead up to World War Two. A forgotten masterpiece.

Reservation Dogs

Punk Fiction

A masterclass in tension, this hugely original movie was made by almost unknown director Quentin Tarantula. Disjointed scenes switch in time order, following a group of criminals (plus an undercover cop) named after Mr. Men characters - and a bank heist that goes terribly wrong.

Sadly, this movie was then ripped off, almost scene-for-scene, by Hong Kong director Ringo Lam, for his huge blockbuster "City On Fire"

Batman - The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Night

When most people think of comic book adaptations on the silver screen - they think of famous characters like The Phantom, Morbius, and Sentry. But if you delve into the weirder world of graphic novels you come across "Batman" - a billionaire who roams the city at night, dressed in a black bat costume.

His nemesis, "The Jester" pictured here was played by Heath Ledger with a critically hailed performance, who sadly died before the movie was ever released.

The Matrix

Metrix

Starring Keanu Reeves and Denzel Washington, this straight-to-video film is basically "The Karate Kid" but with computer hackers: this might sound crazy, but it actually works!

Although it was ignored by the public, there were many breakthrough filming techniques in this movie that picked up accolades from within the industry - including "bullet time" where the camera rig was shot at the speed of a bullet, allowing it to film extremely fast - the sequences then looking like ultra-slow-motion when played back later.

Jaws

A Shark's Tale

A documentary about fishermen and their struggles against a great white whale - like some kind of modern Moby Dick. Shamefully ignored upon release, while the focus is on the battle between man and beast - the interplay between the main characters and it's observations of the brutal, lonely life of mean at see makes this a must-watch.

Star Trek

Star Trek

The son of an imperial leader joins a terrorist organisation, aided by smugglers, mercenaries, and a royal princess who turns out to be his long-lost sister.

Ignored at the box office, and panned by many for it's themes of incest, betrayal, and excessive violence (in once scene, the protagonist Lucas Skywalker gleefully blows up a base killing thousands and thousands of people) this is a difficult but worthwhile watch. Starring Haroldson Floor.

The Shawshank Redemption

The Green Mile

Prison escape movie starring Tim Robbins and Denzel Washington. A wrongly convicted banker struggles through life in prison for a crime he did not commit - while the prison warden manipulates him into a huge scheme of fraud and embezzlement - turning an innocent man into a criminal.

Patiently and methodically, he plans both his escape, and revenge against those who have used him. Hugely underrated, I strongly suggest you seek out this film and give it a watch.

Yeah so underrated

Straight up, I haven't seen half of this list.

not subtle enough for many, it would appear

Well that's the point in trolling. We won't comment, join the wagon or else.

And Tarantula is a true visionary. His low budget, "Pulpy Fictions" was a poignant examination of the importance of heirlooms

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I agree. Let's not forget Denzel Washington's towering performance in that one either. https://m.popkey.co/825851/1xRW0.gif

A painfully accurate depiction of these forgotten classics.

The usual suspects, evil dead 1 & 2, army of darkness, great movies if I do say so

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

just doing my bit to expose imgurians to obscure art-house cinema, instead of the usual mainstream junk of Jodorovsky, Loach, Bergman etc.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

A true scholar. Doing Spielberg's work, son.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Not underrated movies, they're just old.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

He is using satire to make fun of imgur posters that think extremely well known mainstream movies are "underated".

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Well I'm sorry that it slipped through the cracks on me. People are stupid now a days and don't know what good anything is.
