Finished product first. The tray tables fold up and store inside the end table.

The hand-me-down tray tables weren’t working for me so I decided to upgrade. So much room for activities!

The plan. Approximately 96% of the surface area of the plywood will be used. 3.5% is sawdust and 0.5% is scrap. I deviated from the plan only slightly.

Cut everything down to size

Test fitted the end table. The back side has false drawers to look like the front.

Reminds me of the cows in Minecraft.

Each set of pieces had to be fitted precisely for the tray tables. Dowel joints make for stronger connections.

Tray tables assembled and ready for sanding and staining.

The tray tables pull out like drawers.

Tray table folded flat.

Tray table folded out. Surface is about 18”x16”

All four tables out. (Skyrim art FTW)

Everything stows away nicely.

Here’s the only plywood scrap from the project. Waste not want not.

Today these are easily worth $20,000, a pony, and knighthood.

Optical illusion. It’s mostly hollow. It’s one piece of plywood so all told it weighs about 65lbs

Nice! What tools were involved? I'm looking to get into this a bit.

I used a table saw, router, drill press, and hand drill. I also used some other scrap to make jigs for simplifying repetitive pieces.

Nice, was pondering what tool to get next. I have a circular saw and a jigsaw, pondered a miter, but for plywood table saw would be better.

You could probably get by with a circular saw and a miter saw, but for many of the cuts a table saw is safer and more precise.
