Bananarnir would have brought his father a case of beer, a flamethrower, and two adult tricycles.

#30 I had an office job for required me to wear a shirt and tie. It was across the street from a grocery store, so I would shop on my way home, often still wearing my lanyard with my actual place of employment. All the god-damned time I would be asked if I worked at the store.

Twenty cents?

For whatever it's worth, I reacted to that rather bizarre word choice as well.

It's a table of inflections (my Icelandic is both very limited and rusty, but Eintala = singular and Fleirtala = plural) for the word banana, not sure if there's a more concise way to describe it. The two columns seem to be distinguishing definiteness ("(a) banana" vs "the banana").

#5 Jamie Lannister.

5 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Nah, guy was still a scumbag at the end. His story around the Mad King is tragic, and he's wrongfully spurned for *that* act, but there are still so many others that it's impossible to overlook. He still threw a kid from a window, was totally on board with everything his father did to the Starks, and we'll probably never find out how it plays out in the books, but if we go by the show, he's totally okay with Mad Kings as long as it's his sister.

He’s also the counter argument to the righteousness of Ned stark. Ned was an honorable man, but a fucking tool of a politician.

I always figured he was going to kill Cersei in the books as another part of his redemption arc, but we never got that far. (She receives a prophecy that she'll die at the hands of "little brother", which feels like a really obvious fake out where he wants you to think "Tyrion", but Jamie is a few minutes younger than her so would also qualify.)

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah. That would at least be consistent versus what we got in the show.

No one's saying he's a particularly good person, just that with his backstory and character development it's hard to hate him as a character.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't hate him for being badly written or anything like that. He's fine as *a character*, but within that context, he's not a good person, and my first impression was that I am going to dislike this character, and at the end (so far), I still dislike this character. I'm only speaking for myself, but no amount of Tragic Backstory redeems intentionally pushing a kid out of a window to protect your incestuous, adulterous relationship with your sister. Especially when he never expresses regret.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah but you go from hoping he’ll die of something painful at the hands of the starks to understanding that he’s a person.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not a book, but... I thought he was just gonna be a bland Kefka stand-in. I didn't have a lot of faith in the writing after an expansion of putting up with Zenos. I don't want to spoil anything just in case, but yeah. Definitely not one of the "he did nothing wrong" gang, but I didn't end up hating him like I expected.

The web serial The Wandering Inn is definitely full of sort-of-villains like that for me. So is everything by WildBow, like Pale (which is fantaaastic). I like these because instead of hurr durr I'm a villain because EVUL, they've got legit powerful motivations. Some get redeemed, in a sense, and some aaaabsolutely do not. It's great.

I second this. Best villain FF has ever had

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

wholly agree. took a while to knock Kefka off the throne but Emet did it completely. and then took EW's revelations as a victory lap.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

bonus points to Elidibus as well. especially his whole "I became the warrior of legend because it's what you would've done" bit.

Emet-Selch from final fantasy 14 for those wondering, shadowbringers made me want to hit him in the face with a shovel, endwalker made me reconsider

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Wait, this isn't Emet-Selch from Magic: the Gathering?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

considering the deck hes from is a crossover one with final fantasy, yes

I was just kind of joking, along the lines of: "oh my god they stole (insert famous character) from fortnite!"

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

his card specifically got me back into MTG. Help.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

by my command whenever you try to buy more cards, birds will look at you judgementally, or not, they're birds, getting them to do what they are told is hard

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Will try to do this without spoilers, but I'd say his motives even in Shadowbringers were understandable. Note that does not mean *justified* or correct. Just understandable. I've had many, many long arguments about "if you were in his place".

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

his motives were understandable, the actions he did in the pursuit of those less so, especially since some of those actions didnt do anything more than just fuck with people for shit and giggles

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Getting a little more spoilery, so stop reading if you're ever gonna play Final Fantasy 14.

Answer: I think it's still understandable given his view of those "people". It's one that we don't agree with, since we *are* "people", but from his POV it's no worse than a bored kid chasing seagulls for fun; mean maybe, but not morally reprehensible.
