Because assholes on the internet score women's attractiveness out of ten. Without the context that he's an optometrist, or knowing how glasses prescriptions work, he could appear to be just be calling her extremely ugly.
The guy who played Columbo supposedly once took out his glass eye and offered it to an umpire after he was called out while stealing a base in baseball.
I know he wasnt, but if he had been insulting her face, im just going to point out its the cliche makeover scene. She lets down her hair and takes off her glasses, slight make up and a prom dress and suddenly shes a 10 lol.
Cue the footage of her, ripping off the glasses and letting her hair down, like a cheesy 1970’s sitcom, revealing a molten bombshell who’s about to destroy your entire world view.
It is an Old tv & movie trope, cast a beautiful woman and have her wear glasses, this makes the woman ugly, later they will take her glasses off, and fix her hair thus a transformation, teaching the idiot man in the movie that she was always beautiful he just didn’t notice he was already in love with her.
I'm autistic and I understood it after reading the comments. I've been wearing glasses every day since 1965, and I couldn't tell you anything about my prescription. I've graduated to invisible trifocals. If I take them off, I can't see anything. Everything is a fuzzy blob.
As a horribly nearsighted person -6.75 / -6.50 that managed to squeak through 3 years of the annual school medical exams by virtue of being the last person tested and remembering what my classmates responses were. Life looks all soft and fuzzy until it isn't.
This is gonna sound crazy, but is it possible that a lot of people disliked the comment, rather than one person disliking it and a bunch of people following the trend?
Because imgur is, unfortunately, full of stupid, much like everywhere else these days. And stupid loves playing follow the leader. One stupid person downvotes because they don't get the joke (or they are just spiteful, who knows), and that leads to a lot of the other stupid reaching the same conclusion and following the leader. It was a funny joke, but one person thought they were being an ass, and a bunch of other idiots followed
I worked at a prescription glasses factory! Our factory topped out around -13, where we would outsource them after that. I definitely saw a -18 before, and they are so thick they have to be shaved off a little around the cheek so the lens doesn't physically touch your face when you wear the frames
Being very nearsighted and seeing the Dr part, i got that instantly. -7.75 to -8 Plus moderate astigmatism. Rigid gas permeable contacts, i highly recommend. Plus when i wear glasses i don't need bifocals, even at my age, i just shift the glasses down my nose a bit.
He is a funny dude but he also gave a very important PSA years ago, LEARN CPR. His wife had to restart his heart one night bc he had a heart attack and if it weren’t for her training he’d be ded by now. I’ll never forget that story again.
Google says his name is William Flanary. For the non German speaking people his name is basically doctor glaucoma spot. It's just his job title for his YouTube channel and social media accounts.
My prescription was -1 OS(left eye) -1.5 OD(right eye) and I survived US Army basic training without any eyewear because they give you glasses with shitty plastic lenses that fogs up so much you can't see shit. I only used my glasses for Basic Rifle Marksmanship which we qualified in the fucking rain for some reason like they don't have a weather forecast in Georgia. This is not a humble brag, I'm just saying this prescription means you barely need glasses.
I was in the same boat. I've often said I only need glasses to read things far away, and likely could have qualified without any corrected lenses. I still wear the eyepro for sunglasses, though, because they have corrective inserts that normal sunglasses don't support.
They do have weather forecasting in the Army, too. They just don't give a shit. If it ain't raining, you ain't training.
Before i got laser... i was -3.5 and -2.25. It is nice having them more even now, and considering how little the -3.5 could see........ WOW... just colour for you... not even shapes!?
...I don't even know my prescription anymore (That's my doctor's job...I just keep the piece of paper in my files) but if I take off my glasses I can't drive at all. Can't see past the hood. (NOT that my glasses help when the fog is so thick I can see the turbulence over my hood...).
Back when I first got glasses, it was because I couldn't get the whiteboard to focus from the back of the classroom because it was too close. Went from super-far-sighted (to the point where keyboards gave me 1/
too much trouble, and I still hunt-and-peck today) to near-sighted enough that I'm not legally allowed to operate a motor vehicle without them.
My dad had coke-bottle glasses when he was in the Air Force. Literally, lenses thicker than his finger. He's gotten lasik twice, and at ~65, he wears the modern version of coke-bottles, with a really weird shaped lens to do all the adjustment in less space.
Yeah the first time I had my eyes tested (because I was feeling eye strain and some headaches) shows my eyes were like -0.5 (can't remember the exact numbers, was nearly 20 years ago). When I mentioned it to my GP he laughted and said spending money on glasses would be a waste.
Nah he was alright. It's nearly 20 years later and my eyesight isn't significantly worse than the first test, I had an eye test just over a year ago, I don't remember the numbers but it has barely changed. I did get glasses on the previous test a few years before that, but the difference they made was negligible and 99% of the time I don't wear them. I could read the eye chart for a driver licence renewal with no issue.
Btw in the UK, possibly elsewhere too, optometrists perform the same role as ophthalmologists in the US as far as diagnosing eye conditions and prescribing lenses.

You must have been incapable of reading the blackboard. At that sort of eyesight, I needed glasses just to not be run over by traffic.
EroticZombiePants
I was already incapable of reading the blackboard when I was like 8. Hell, I need my glasses to read the text on my laptop's screen.
