Diopters doctor, diopters.

He absolutely meant her glasses, this guy is a friendly helpful type

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1 week ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

No oops. That's what makes it funny.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get where Ethan is coming from considering all the "manosphere" garbage out there, but I think he was a bit quick on the draw.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Dr. Glaucumflecken should be declared a UNESCO heritage.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does he just get alerts whenever people mention glasses or what lmao

1 week ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Sometimes people tag/forward/link/etc things that are relevant to people, so yeah, probably.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

“I’m just writing about how she looks!”

1 week ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 5

"I MEAN HOW SHE LOOKS THROUGH HER GLASSES I AM SO BAD AT THIS i am sorry"

1 week ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I don't get it. Why was Ethan upset with him?

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Because assholes on the internet score women's attractiveness out of ten. Without the context that he's an optometrist, or knowing how glasses prescriptions work, he could appear to be just be calling her extremely ugly.

1 week ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

if movies have taught me anything, it's that she's a 10 when she takes the glasses off

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know the point of the post is different, but asking if the ref needs her glasses is a great burn.

1 week ago | Likes 213 Dislikes 2

The guy who played Columbo supposedly once took out his glass eye and offered it to an umpire after he was called out while stealing a base in baseball.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I can appreciate that level of sass.

1 week ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 2

I thought that was common- Aussie here-
the Ref needs glasses!
A non swearing chant

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If I was still a physics teacher I'd probably use this as an example of why answers must always be given with the correct unit.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Followed by a bunch of people asking him to guess their prescriptions:

Meanwhile, I'm almost a -10.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The thing is, he's probably correct that those glasses are maybe -1.5 diopters

1 week ago | Likes 249 Dislikes 0

Yep, I'm -1 and -1.2, and mine look like hers.
No. NO, I DIDN'T MEAN I HAVE A MICROPENIIIII

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

CORRECT

1 week ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Yeah and you're gonna die alone so what

1 week ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

1 week ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

I know he wasnt, but if he had been insulting her face, im just going to point out its the cliche makeover scene. She lets down her hair and takes off her glasses, slight make up and a prom dress and suddenly shes a 10 lol.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did he mean something other than what we thought he meant?

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

Prescription strength for lenses

1 week ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Glasses prescription strength

1 week ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Thinking is hard. Well, actually it's not, but for some it is, obviously.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cue the footage of her, ripping off the glasses and letting her hair down, like a cheesy 1970’s sitcom, revealing a molten bombshell who’s about to destroy your entire world view.

1 week ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

By giving you her glasses?

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It is an Old tv & movie trope, cast a beautiful woman and have her wear glasses, this makes the woman ugly, later they will take her glasses off, and fix her hair thus a transformation, teaching the idiot man in the movie that she was always beautiful he just didn’t notice he was already in love with her.

4 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I got it, I was just making a very bad joke about the reason for your "world view" being destroyed being because you now have glasses.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That went right over my head

3 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

🤣

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Being a-10.5 myself, this is pretty funny.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's tough, buddy.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Chill Ethan, you see the "Dr." part right?

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I knew what he meant straight away. It was pretty obvious.

And yes. I am Autistic.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I'm autistic and I understood it after reading the comments. I've been wearing glasses every day since 1965, and I couldn't tell you anything about my prescription. I've graduated to invisible trifocals. If I take them off, I can't see anything. Everything is a fuzzy blob.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm autistic and I didn't. I wear glasses everyday but never think about how the prescription is written.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He didn't see that coming? maybe he should've gone to Specsavers.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Found the aussie

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm from the UK, but thanks for the compliment.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't get it, then I saw doctor.

1 week ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

More specifically, optometrist

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

actually, it'd be ophthalmologist, as he's an MD

1 week ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I stand corrected

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

probably don't need him then

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a horribly nearsighted person -6.75 / -6.50 that managed to squeak through 3 years of the annual school medical exams by virtue of being the last person tested and remembering what my classmates responses were. Life looks all soft and fuzzy until it isn't.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You must have been incapable of reading the blackboard. At that sort of eyesight, I needed glasses just to not be run over by traffic.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was already incapable of reading the blackboard when I was like 8. Hell, I need my glasses to read the text on my laptop's screen.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look, I'll own it, first time I read this I thought the same thing ethan did. Not until I read the comments did I realize the joke.

1 week ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

If you are comically nearsighted like I am, you got it immediately.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same. I hated doc for a few seconds before I saw his reply and eventually figured out what he actually meant.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Doc has a great response to it.

But also, -1 is like... Weirdos would just say 0/10 or something

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Dunno, I could imagine someone saying "on a scale from 0 to 10 you're a -1" to imply they're beyond ugly.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Internet is cruel without context

1 week ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 3

nearly everything is cruel without context

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Aren’t you the insightful one

1 week ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 49

Clever.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thanks. Went right over the heads of most everyone else

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did I miss something, why did this get a million downvotes lmao?

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Imgur's online "community"

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The internet is cruel.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I know, right? Too funny

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We make fun of the concept of “sheeple”, but man. No context and downvotes: all of a sudden you have a herd after you.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is gonna sound crazy, but is it possible that a lot of people disliked the comment, rather than one person disliking it and a bunch of people following the trend?

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because imgur is, unfortunately, full of stupid, much like everywhere else these days. And stupid loves playing follow the leader. One stupid person downvotes because they don't get the joke (or they are just spiteful, who knows), and that leads to a lot of the other stupid reaching the same conclusion and following the leader. It was a funny joke, but one person thought they were being an ass, and a bunch of other idiots followed

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Yeah brigading is Imgurs favourite sport. Used to be a lot worse with mods around.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I found the clueless one!

1 week ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

How did I get here

THIS IS NOT MY BEAUTIFUL WIFE!

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I’m Not asking myself
"Well, how did I get here?"

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Writing turn at Albuquerque.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

lol. I watch that guy. He's really funny. And I am 100% confident he didn't mean it like that.

Diopter is a measure of your eyesight, and -1 to -1.5 is saying she's slightly nearsighted. He's an optometrist.

1 week ago | Likes 910 Dislikes 4

So he looks at the bright side of your eyes?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Johnathan would have phrased that a bit better. Maybe we have him take over the social medias...

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who's -1 and -1.25 I can confirm I can pretty much go about daily life without glasses but do need them for distance like while driving.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I worked at a prescription glasses factory! Our factory topped out around -13, where we would outsource them after that. I definitely saw a -18 before, and they are so thick they have to be shaved off a little around the cheek so the lens doesn't physically touch your face when you wear the frames

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Being very nearsighted and seeing the Dr
part, i got that instantly. -7.75 to -8 Plus moderate astigmatism. Rigid gas permeable contacts, i highly recommend. Plus when i wear glasses i don't need bifocals, even at my age, i just shift the glasses down my nose a bit.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's an eye bro

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I saw a follow-up post where a lady asked him to review her glasses and he was close, think a half point off, solely from a photo.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Idk, usually they’re pretty positive people, -1.5 sounds negative

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He is a funny dude but he also gave a very important PSA years ago, LEARN CPR. His wife had to restart his heart one night bc he had a heart attack and if it weren’t for her training he’d be ded by now. I’ll never forget that story again.

1 week ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

How does nearsightedness count as looking on the bright side??

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry. I'm confused. Looking on the bright side?

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I presume, "optometrist" - "optimist" -- They're doing the funny.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Huh. I can see that.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This entire chain of comments amuses me.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is glaucomflecken his real name? Bcuz that's what tipped me off

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Google says his name is William Flanary. For the non German speaking people his name is basically doctor glaucoma spot. It's just his job title for his YouTube channel and social media accounts.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We are talking about him, but it wasn't his ignorance that got us here.

1 week ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

Yeah, that was my first thought as a -12

1 week ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

And good day to you, fellow two-digiter! I'm at -10.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

WHAT. I didn't know it went that high!

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I get 1 to 2 inches of range that I can see without my glasses

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dang that's high. My wife is at -9.5, but she got surgically implanted lenses. I'm only at -5 but with heavy astigmatism.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ouch, that's tough.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My prescription was -1 OS(left eye) -1.5 OD(right eye) and I survived US Army basic training without any eyewear because they give you glasses with shitty plastic lenses that fogs up so much you can't see shit. I only used my glasses for Basic Rifle Marksmanship which we qualified in the fucking rain for some reason like they don't have a weather forecast in Georgia. This is not a humble brag, I'm just saying this prescription means you barely need glasses.

1 week ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

The -1 to -2 range is enough that reading and anything up close can get blurry and unpleasant. It's not "barely" by any means, but it could be worse.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was in the same boat. I've often said I only need glasses to read things far away, and likely could have qualified without any corrected lenses. I still wear the eyepro for sunglasses, though, because they have corrective inserts that normal sunglasses don't support.

They do have weather forecasting in the Army, too. They just don't give a shit. If it ain't raining, you ain't training.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Before I got surgery I was around -6.5. Could not read the time on the digital clock on my nightstand without my glasses.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Before i got laser... i was -3.5 and -2.25. It is nice having them more even now, and considering how little the -3.5 could see........ WOW... just colour for you... not even shapes!?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm -7 in both eyes. Not clear shapes. Everything is pretty much blobs. If I squint real hard I might find some edges.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...I don't even know my prescription anymore (That's my doctor's job...I just keep the piece of paper in my files) but if I take off my glasses I can't drive at all. Can't see past the hood. (NOT that my glasses help when the fog is so thick I can see the turbulence over my hood...).

Back when I first got glasses, it was because I couldn't get the whiteboard to focus from the back of the classroom because it was too close. Went from super-far-sighted (to the point where keyboards gave me 1/

1 week ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

too much trouble, and I still hunt-and-peck today) to near-sighted enough that I'm not legally allowed to operate a motor vehicle without them.

My dad had coke-bottle glasses when he was in the Air Force. Literally, lenses thicker than his finger. He's gotten lasik twice, and at ~65, he wears the modern version of coke-bottles, with a really weird shaped lens to do all the adjustment in less space.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah the first time I had my eyes tested (because I was feeling eye strain and some headaches) shows my eyes were like -0.5 (can't remember the exact numbers, was nearly 20 years ago). When I mentioned it to my GP he laughted and said spending money on glasses would be a waste.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bad GP

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nah he was alright. It's nearly 20 years later and my eyesight isn't significantly worse than the first test, I had an eye test just over a year ago, I don't remember the numbers but it has barely changed. I did get glasses on the previous test a few years before that, but the difference they made was negligible and 99% of the time I don't wear them. I could read the eye chart for a driver licence renewal with no issue.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ophthalmologist technically i believe

1 week ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 1

I see what you did there

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Btw in the UK, possibly elsewhere too, optometrists perform the same role as ophthalmologists in the US as far as diagnosing eye conditions and prescribing lenses.
