UPS worker here, that potential strike that was all over the news? It got me a 50% pay increase so now I'm solidly middle class, and will be able to actually take vacations soon.

Don't care about upvotes, just wanted to celebrate with a crappily made meme.

on average union jobs pay 20% more, have more benefits and average 2% in dues (despite the claims otherwise by certain grps)

Unions make America stronger. Our contract renews next year.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I get your point... But no... You are NOT middle class. If you are one major medical emorrgency away from losing your home or anything else? You are poor. Eat. The fucking rich.

I don't know how the big banks keep avoiding unionization. I mean, I know how it's discouraged, but the front-line have the numbers to fight back and make it happen. Bank tellers make up most of the staff and are paid a tiny bit above minimum wage. And crazy sales targets are the reason that they opened millions of accounts and credit cards, without permission, causing huge fines to the banks. They don't even make commissions, they just do it to meet targets and keep their jobs.

Good on you guys for reminding the bean counters who hauls in the beans they're counting. Until you put a boot to their throat, employees will never amount to anything more than lines on an expense report.

"travel, after labor, is the company's largest controllable cost" - an actual email we got once asking us not to spend our travel allowance.

There is no such thing as Upper / Middle / Lower class, there is the working class, and the non working class. AKA, the ones who earn bonuses for your work while playing golf and snorting cocaine. They run the company and steal the profits of your labour, never let them divide us by our salaries. Congrats on the union win!! SOLIDARITY. UNIONIZE! ORGANIZE!

Our* crappy meme , comrade

In my opinion, unions are capitalist. Negotiating your wage is definitely not communist. Bargaining as a group just makes it hard for the employers to intimidate everyone. Unions are good things.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Unions are socialist. Not communist. And not even remotely capitalist, capitalism is what we have now in Finland with Coalition party (our moneywhore political party, like politicians in US), they are very busy taking everything they can from workers to benefit companies. Sick days etc.

"Middle class" doesn't mean what people think it does.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also Companies: "Lets just shut down this location then reopen it so there is no union."

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

why did you think factories moved to china/india/vietcongs/etc etc etc?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

They were going to do that anyway but more than a few have been burnt by doing so

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's freaking awesome for you!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's the liberal agenda again! People wanted to be PAID for their hard work. Psssh. /s

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah brother. Wish my local had the intelligence to strike. We voted to authorize and still took the first deal…..yeah we lost out vs inflation. I was pissed then and I’m pissed now.

Was there a strike? I didn't keep up with the story and haven't heard it mentioned in a while.

2 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 2

nope. was gonna be one, but corpos caved negating the need. because that can happen when you dont let them divide and conquer.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

As soon as the union won shit got real quiet didn't it?

2 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

curious how a lack of injustice and controversy makes for slow news days, isnt it?

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Heard of Barbenheim? Thzts the last movies u'll see for awhile. SAG strike of writers and actors in Hollywood. Ask Fran Drescher

Just the fact that the US has a Democrat administration right now is probably all it took. Or at least a pro union Democrat administration.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lmao "pro union" administration is PR nonsense, just ask those railway workers

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, perhaps I didn't think my comment through. How about a less pro corporation administration as compared to the last?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice! Congrats!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wish there was a universal labor union.

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

IWW.org It’s DIY but more effective

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Universal unions become unwieldy and hard to get any consensus from unless it's for wide overarcing issues that affect everyone. Trade unions are better because it focuses on issues that affect a very specific trade and thus that trade can more easily get consensus and act.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Best I can do is to continue tax breaks for the wealthy and crush any mention of union in any industry.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Could we also get “pretends to enforce union labor laws” too?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Best I can do is a "Pizza Party".

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bit of a shame it looks like it will exclude 180,000 part timers, the air conditioning being added to the trucks won't start phasing in till 2024. Even with those caveats, a win is a win.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A well run union is necessary for the middle class to thrive.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck yeah, buds! Congrats!

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Great work. Just get out of there before your body gives out. Use your healthcare. You driving?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm a paper pusher, so I don't have to deal with getting my body as trashed, thankfully. I'm glad the driving guys got A/C for the package cars, even if its gonna take a while.

what the job market here looks like. Anything over 8 dollars probably already taken, and their boss has to relisted for work permit reasons.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

"Belongers"... for a moment there I read that as Beforeigners, a great TV series by the way, and there a societal similarities between the two words.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A mason or carpenter with that kind of shit pay?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well at least everything isn't 2.5 to 3 times the cost here/s

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wonder why they limit themselves to locals only. Is it a regulation thing?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So you are supposed to hire locals first if there's one who meets all the requirements, then people with PRCs( permanent resident certificate) any one else you have to get a work permit for. Honestly most of these are work permit renewal listening. House keepers, landscapers, and Laborers are usually Haitian, Dominican, or Filipino.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah so its a case of "Well we cant get any applicants (at this pay rate)! Guess we gotta look at foreign hires now!" sort of thing?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorta of, but also not really. It's a lot more complicated. Those jobs are looked down on so a lot of TI' won't take those jobs, most jobs pay about that, so unless you get a job that tips you are in the 8 to 12 dollar range. Also there's a six month probation period before you are entitled workers benefits. Use to be that would always be minimum wage, but you would get a better offer if you worked out. But the better offer seem to have dried up lately

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What the fuck you can't live on $8/hr in turks and caicos. The food is astronomical. You'd work all day just to afford dinner!

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

For real

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Man I always heard how great UPS paid their full time deliverers. How times have changed

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The drivers still get great pay, but there's a LOT of support staff that didn't and this contract is helping us a lot.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Your crappy meme is happily accepted, brother/sister/non-binary sibling.

I like "cousin" you know like how Tito Makani would use it.

Game Changer is so gooooood

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I'm more of a Make Some Noise fan, but everything they do is good. Found them through some "uhm, actually" videos.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean, YES. But Make Some Noise is a Game Changer series that was so good it became its own show, so I say it all counts lol.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

True. Also every episode of any show with Brennan Lee Mulligan is golden.

This was a wild episode

I love most of what Dropout delivers.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Best $5.99 a month I've ever spent. And to hear them talk, Sam Reich is one of the nicest guys in Earth. (His dad is Robert Reich, the Secretary of Labor under Clinton and currently a liberal economist. There's a quote from him in the front page right now. )

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Strong agree on all counts.

I love what J Kenji Lopez-Alt says for this: guys, gals, and non-binary pals

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Big same.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

We could just shorten it to pals.

My local didn’t and it apparently wasn’t uncommon for our area. Consistently bent over for the business’ & screwed us over with the results. Worked a mixed union non union store & unless you worked upstate you didn’t get anything other than finger pointing and excuses. I worked south & my job was the trickle down. There was even a time when they mishandled the funds so badly that they let all of our health insurance go bye bye and then we had to pay even bigger union dues for zip benefits.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Unfortunately, Unions are, too, made of people. And all people are capable of corruption. Some areas have this happen, and it's up to good people willing to make a stand and fight for change for the Union to come back into what it is supposed to be known as. I hope you stand in solidarity and your area gets things figured out o7

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Police unions don't.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

hahah. tell the BLM to unionise before they all get caught for fraud...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The vote ain't passed yet. Here's hoping no dip shits screw it up.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

arguably the vote not passing would be better for the labor movement

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't see how not passing a contract where we get everything we asked for is a good thing

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

because it wasn't actually everything everyone asked for... the part timer instant boost was supposed to be to 25$ for example... they have been stealing from us for decades..... think about it if the hyper rich people just gave you everything you asked for right before the deadline... without a fight... did you ask for enough?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It wasn't without a fight. And what you're describing sounds like greed.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-we- know that but the public at large is not very informed of all the systems testing practice pickets Amazon supports... the average person knows that a contract at this stage was accepted by the company and ups teamsters have not gone on strike...like all the organizers have been saying "we are setting an example for America for the world" it is unrealistic for the average union strike to go this way especially without the network of systems/support/strategy ups teamsters have
