Five for Vendetta, I love this movie !

The Wachowski's RUINED the ending, much like Zack Snyder did with Watchmen. Only Snyder has regretted changing the ending.

#1 That's Hugo Smiling, not Hugo Weaving.

Is this an age thing and a sign I am too old? "V" still makes me think of this:

Governments are afraid of the people. That’s why they dumb down education, keep the workers on the poverty line and sow panic about non threatening issues to keep the focus of the masses off politics.

Remember, Remember! The fifth of November! The gunpowder treason and plot.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Still one of my all time favorite movies.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s astounding how often I think of this movie and how prophetic it was in many ways.

Alan Moore himself has said that he now finds it naively optimistic: that it would take a nuclear catastrophe of global proportions to make us go into fascism.

Such a great fucking movie.

Does anyone know why he replaced James Purefoy?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

initial reports said difficulties wearing the mask for the whole movie but purefoy himself said creative differences on how to portray the character and i guess technically he is still in the movie to some degree since they just had Weaving dub his already shot footage

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Its all fun and games until the mask possesses him and he kills the rest of the lethal company lobby

I havent ever seen the film, only watched the everything wrong with about it. Need to actually get around to that

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would even say better than the novel really. The ending of the novel is so sudden and leads to nowhere while the movie has a payout while not showing entirely what will happen after. It could get worse really but at least it's the people's choices that could cause that situation and not some hierarchy.

It didn't do it for me. Tbc, I totally get that a lot of ppl really like it (I married one of 'em), but the first time I saw it I knew it was him that was holding Ms. Portman hostage, and I kept thinking "I've essentially seen this before, and with that villain dude as the protagonist". I also think that other story, sadly, has the more realistic ending.

What?

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

John Hurt played the bad guy in V for Vendetta and also the good guy in 1984.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am honestly curious. What are you talking about?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

John Hurt played the bad guy in V for Vendetta and also the good guy in 1984.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, but what is your point? I don't get it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Having Agent Smith play that character feels weird.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 3

I like to think of him as Agent Megatron Half-Elven for Vendetta

...or Red Skull?

What is about it? The smell?

I thought he did a fantastic job acting through the mask.

How the fuck did it not click in my mind that he was the actor for V.. (for reference I've not seen the film since I was a child)

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He is a very good actor

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I forget he played V. Thanks for the reminder. I neglected to watch it this past November, I'll have to break form and watch it soon.

I was gonna say it's a shame I haven't seen him in anything new in a while, but after having played Elrond, Agent Smith, V, Red Skull and Mitzi, he can do whatever the hell he wants

2 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

I will die on this hill: he was a wrong pick for Elrond. (And not just because I kept expecting him to go "Mr. Aragorn" every time he shared the screen with Mortensen.)

My sister watches this every year. She thinks its an anti-government pro-Republican movie, after all she is a republican voter.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

i'm sorry to have to tell you this but your sister is an idiot.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I wonder if the truth will ever sink in? Although it was written as an anti-Thatcher work, it certainly has carryover to different countries and regimes. But is it possible to ever support a fascist government with pure intentions? I would think that everyone is smart enough to realize when they're fooling themselves with "ends vs means" arguments. Admitting it is an entirely different ballgame, though.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She is as smart as we expected a Republican voter to be.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I mean, it's against a facist government. So it is technically anti-government.

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Perhaps the film industry has a vested image in blurring the lines of its messages so they're not obliquely offensive to anyone

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Maybe you should watch it. I think it is pretty clear where it is aiming.
