Sunlight warm and comforting, take the pool out of the shade.

Maybe he wants a pool. Glass, of course.

Clearly he likes the water deep, probably gives a better vacuum being fully submerged instead of that shallow puddle that is the kiddy pool. Should have multiple water sources too, warm water to warm up and cool water to cool down.

I won't say which zoo it was that let child me ride on the back of a giant tortoise, because of course we don't do that today. But in the 70s...

They get the majority of the water from the plants they eat so dont need much and can go days without

You can't believe that, after that massive tortoise broke its far-too-flimsy pool (because honestly of course it did, what did you expect?), it still wanted some water? Get it something that can actually withstand it, with ramps. Ramps, plural. Tortoises are just going to climb out whichever direction they happen to be facing when they're done in the pool, and whichever direction that is needs to have a ramp.

It didn't do that. She did that, so that it could get in and out.

Maybe, it just wants clean water?

What's wrong with bath water?

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plus the bowl has the depth to submerge it's whole head, making it easier to drink.

they are built to drink a lot of water when they find it

That looks like a very well cared-for tort. As far as I know the more protruding the panels on a tort's shell, the more distressed it's been. This madlad is almost smooth!

You can't believe it drinks water?

It wanted clear warm water like it would have if it lived in the wild? I'm shocked!

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s safer. He can see shadows and movement through a clear bowl.

And we’re the weirdos that like cold water. Tortoises are cold-blooded. Why would they cool themselves down by drinking cold water? That’s counterproductive.

10/10, no notes.

I dunno, my cat won't drink any water that is older than 5 minutes from the fridge and will paw at the fridge until we give him fresh cold water.

He’s a mammal, so it won’t slow him down. I find cold water smells and tastes better. Maybe he does too?

Steve Irwin's tortoise used to belong to Charles Darwin. She finally passed in 2006 at the young age of 176.

“However, doubt is cast on this story by the fact that Darwin had never visited Santa Cruz, the island that Harriet originally came from.”
