Finished product first

Started out with some bubinga timber I had lying around. Used the holesaw to recess the charger.

Mitered up some 19mm formply for a nice fancy border.

Glued it, clamped it!

Used dads fancy chisels to make a recess for my arm. I did this whole thing completely on the fly, thats not me bragging, thats me saying that I just make it up as I go.

Chisel and mini-router the slot for charging cable, drilled a hole to go through to base and then underneath there's a recess for cables to run to the back while the base sits flat on the table.

Same timber as the base, cut it out with the jigsaw. The timber was very hard so my cut wasnt perpendicular, one side is actually a little thicker than the other.

Handsaw-ed through the base of my arm to accomodate the cables.

God this part was painful. The only thing I could use was a Dremel with a guide on the side, but the dremel is a POS and the chuck is no good so my bit kept coming in and out of the chuck so the depth kept changing. Luckily the LEDs will cover it up. Dremeld the 2 sides then chiseled out the guts.

Getting there!

Finished! I dont have any photos of making the curve which the headphones rest on. I just traced the curve from my headphones onto the same formply as the base, made a copy, glued them together and then glued it onto the top of my arm, which was flat. It's hard to see in this photo, but the headphone curve has a flat section where it connects to the arm, you can see it better in the first photo!

Pretty happy with it. Looking into some matt acrylic or perspex to diffuse the light.

Alongside my DIY macbook stand.

Samsung charging plates glow blue or green, that would be pretty cool.

So, does the wireless charger, charge the headphones?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Orbital sander on clear acrylic will give a nice frosted-glass look that can diffuse the light for pretty cheap.

Love the finish.

Damn dude. I just have a drawer full of tangled earbuds. I feel a need to step up my game now.

From the thumbnail I thought it was black, rotten bananas.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really nice! Did you intend for the plywood sections to contrast at the joints? I'd have put the LEDs on the back, but a diffuser works fine

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't say I did, no! But still think it looks nice. I like them on the front so that I can see where my phone goes, but thanks anyway!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That looks like one of those things people hang bananas on

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have one of those except it's plastic and I use it to hold my bananas on the counter

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I use a banana stand

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's always money in the banana stand

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did you install LEDs in said banana?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Dammit now I want to see that.

Oppo make headphone?! Are they any good?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They've made 3, this is the PM-3, the "portable", and it's amazingly good: detalied, neutral sound with 0 distortion.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Theyre so expensive!!!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup, price of premium headphones is becoming crazy, and even then these are not the most expensive. OTOH, PM-3 are one of the best portable.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can we see the laptop stand too? Maybe get a how to? I like the design, from what I can see.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you watch porn with your date?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just initiated sex, never actually watched porn with anyone to be honest.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

people that know the habits of people who watch porn watch porn

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I work night shift. My kids and wife do not. Which is why I have headphones at my bed side.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

To watch porn.

@OP do you do custom orders?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't really do any orders, sorry! Out of curiousity though, how would you prefer it different and how much would you pay?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Base a square cut (for a square wireless transmitter) and for that, probably $60.00

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah right, good to know. You'll be the first to know if I decide to make some more!

Wireless charging pad for a phone.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I would almost say Qi Charging pad...

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

"Started out with some bubinga timber I had lying around. Used the holesaw to recess the charger." yeah the 2nd picture tell us.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

that was my guess as well

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that sounds cooler. altho i gotta admit i don't really know what a qi is. so maybe it isn't, i just don't know

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wireless charging for phones and the like. Just put it on the pad, and it charges without sticking a wire in it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yup. Basically uses magnetism - It's not entirely dissimilar to modern stoves that use magnets to agitate and heat pans and pots. Cold stove
