Physics is everywhere, the more learning is encouraged, the further as a society we can travel.
Learning a second language has shown to improve cognitive function opening up the mind to different ideas, capacities for problem solving, ability to communicate not only a second language but to articulate ones thoughts.

TL;DR: learn more, better yourself, fo' peace 'n' life.

And I believe that instead of teaching pre-calc in high school, we should be teaching basic statistics, because it's more widely applicable.

In my country it's mandatory to take French until 10th grade. As for physics, no thanks lol

those are nice but i'd settle for everyone knowing how to cook a meal, change their oil and how basic statistics work

I don't disagree, but it would be tough to convince those living in poverty that they need to learn things seemingly irrelevant to them.

That's just basic logic. I don't see why it should be unpopular opinion puffin.

I think the second language should start being taught beginning in elementary school.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand this meme. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretica

Not everyone is good at learning a second language though. I agree on the physics part.

Learn a bit German and Dutch and the Scandinavian languages will be super easy as a bonus :)

If anything, it makes it a lot easier to order at certain restaurants

I'd settle for more knowledge of normal distributions and how to gauge interest rates.

If you study physics then you have both math & logic covered. A great subject.

this isnt an unpopular opinion. its just people are lazy and dont want to hear it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

It becomes unpopular once it's expressed openly. Look at all the sarcastic/negative comments its already received.

I hope o have a reasonable understanding of physics, after all I am an engineering student. And I am learning German

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't try to do once we are set in our ways though. It's also hard to keep someone engaged in a language that they often don't use. 1/2

I took two years of German and I could speak it okay. But I just didn't use it ever. And eventually forgot almost everything. 2/2

While you're right, I think people should learn how to do things like say their taxes and finance management before more complex things.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Before that even if put reading/writing and basic maths. I think that's the only two current courses which everyone will need.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

taxes change all the time, if you understand math and have reading comprehension you should be able to do taxes.

And yet very few people can or can even understand them.

If only there was somewhere we could send young people where they might learn these sort of things.

Schooling gets way too much focus wrt languages. W/o a place to use it, all that learning fades away in a matter of years.

A basic understanding of physics and 2nd language are taught. What folk do with it once they've been taught is up to them.

The county I work for offers online 3 minute language lessons to help you learn a foreign language (free to employees). I am learning German

Plan to follow up with Spanish, French, and then either Arabic or Farsi. Might go for Russian as well

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Currently learning Russian. ????

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Russian is going to be last on the list. But Spanish and Arabic and Persian communities are on the rise in my county. It helps too for us in

law enforcement. French would be cool and I could read more about the French-Indochina War and Russian is useful in certain areas
