Had that happen while driving through a nature preserve once. Didn't know what to do. Not like I could do anything for the bird.

Sane driving down an interstate and a Mallard was flying low across the road. Never saw me or chose to think it could make it. Peterbilt and Mallard sadly don’t mix.
