In all seriousness I love my job in the ICU but for the most part we are understaffed, underpaid, overworked, and don’t have safe staffing ratios. If there are nurses in your life give them a little extra TLC this week.

It's not a conscious decision. There's not enough of us to go around and America is getting sicker which means more patients.

There is a country wide nursing shortage and nurse burn out is a major problem and places don’t always want to pay enough to retain nurses

In DK (where I live), there was almost a nationwide strike because (among others) nurses where about to get major buttfucked.

Not always ICU. I work Intermediate/Stepdown and with staff shortage we burn through staff like crazy. It's a vicious cycle (1/2)..

It's expensive to train new hires, so staffing is bare minimum, which exhausts current staff, which causes them to leave (1.5/2)..
