When 60% of your patients die

ICU perks

In all seriousness I love my job in the ICU but for the most part we are understaffed, underpaid, overworked, and don’t have safe staffing ratios. If there are nurses in your life give them a little extra TLC this week.

These posts make me so proud to be a nurse! We’re about to strike in New Zealand for better pay!

First year nursing student and working at the hospital, shit's hard yo, but it's sooooo worth it all

Happy doctor helper week! From your friendly neighborhood CNA with a driver's license

My mom used to work ICU with ventilator patients. The few of her long term patients that survived still keep in touch

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Respect the nurse. They help good doctors help you, and they safe your life from bad ones.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've had far too many hospital visits. The doctors/specialists are always terrible people, the nurses are always kind, caring, and helpful.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#7 we had ppl who were there so long they had the hospital registered as residency... fun times

Amen.

Night shift here. My BP for bi-annual physical was in fact 150. Doctor told me to lay off the coffee and energy drinks. I laughed.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yesterday my pulse was 125(I wear an Apple Watch, it went into workout mode) and thought “ I should cut back on my coffee”* sipping coffee*

regarding dealing with patients dying: people get used (habituation) to anything, clearly death too

Nurses are the best

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Nurses and carers (such as in old people homes) are indeed the best of people

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

my mother is a nurse, ill have to send these her way when it's not 4:00 in the morning haha

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Big ups my nurses. Happy nurses week to us all. We're fucking awesome

Truth!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I understood some of these. Seriously though, thank you for what you do.

I've had some stints in hospitals and i swear to got nurses are like angels. Sometimes it can be tough but when you need them, they're there

The one time I got a hot nurse I had food poisoning and shit the bed in a morphine induced daze. She had to clean it. Poor girl.

#16 When you're in for a regular checkup but they start rolling all that shit into the room

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Heh... yeah, a dialysis machine for a 'regular checkup' is slight overkill.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love these. I make some too. Check out my IG @IncredibleNurse , (I don't sell anything) i think you'll laugh a little.

Currently just starting my studies to become a Nurse. Looking forward to it more and more each day to be honest.

Welcome to a lifetime of wanting to learn just that little bit more....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good luck!

Fun fact: A nursing license is also a permission slip for getting drunk at 7am (if you're coming off a night shift).

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ve got some family that are nurses & 100% would not like them as my nurse. But I had a meningitis scare last week & those nurses rocked

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My SIL is definitely the exception to the rule of nurses being awesome.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve had cancer, heart transplant, a coma for three months, let me just say the nurses are amazing I can’t describe it in enough words

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

wow you've been through a lot, hope you're better now

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fact: Nurses put up with so much shit and can still be pleasant. Upon being extubated I yelled “GO FUCK YOURSELF.” Four weeks later 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Being pushed around the hospital in a wheelchair and bumped into her. I apologized + thanked her for putting up with me. 2/3

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

She smiled warmly, said she’d experienced worse and that she was just so happy about my progress. (Thank you, thank you, thank you!) 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Happens ALL THE TIME, so no worries dude

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I have loved every nurse I’ve ever dealt with, except one. That B accused me of faking it when I messed up my LCL, and then left when(1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The doctor examined me (examination for an LCL is essentially making it contract which hurts sooooo bad) and then refused to teach me(2/3)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How to walk on crutches. She just rolled her eyes said “you’ll figure it out” and left. But every other nurse has been amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If that ever happens again, ask for the charge nurse and the house supervisor, cause if she did that to you, she probably did it to everyone

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just delivered last week. Doc came in, pulled baby out, stitched me, then left. All other interaction was with nurses and they were fabulous.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I bet a couple people were CNAs too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do people really try to get out of bed & leave!? I've seen it in tv and movies but thought they were just dramatising it!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

All the time!! Plus people get confused and think they are at home and try and get out of bed

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Lol! Fastest AMA time was 6 minutes out from PACU

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, I am a heavy smoker and my attempted "jailbreaks" got so annoying that one of the nurses finally caved and snuck me out in a 1/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wheelchair. (Thank you and deepest apologies for that to the nurse in question)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can confirm. Repeatedly.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I spent 50 minutes chilling in a postsurgical ward once, and saw two people trying to get out of bed just in that time.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To clarify, this is where the lil' dopeheads woke up after having taken their naps and having been cut up.

Why are hospitals always understaffing nurses? And why always in the ICU?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's not a conscious decision. There's not enough of us to go around and America is getting sicker which means more patients.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There is a country wide nursing shortage and nurse burn out is a major problem and places don’t always want to pay enough to retain nurses

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

In my ICU the number of our nurses to traveler nurses is 1:1 D:

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We are 2:1 but are 1:1 with certain patients. We were so short staffed the other day we had to pair balloon pump patients with other pts

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think sleepy meant they are 50% traveler nurse right now :x

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Our local hospital cut out LPN’s and are really hurting for nurses, over working the ones they have.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In DK (where I live), there was almost a nationwide strike because (among others) nurses where about to get major buttfucked.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also the hospitals refuse to staff more than a number based of census, so if anyone calls out, there is virtually no fall back plan.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If the answer isn't "money", I'll eat a cheeseburger. I'll eat one if it is the answer, too.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

win-win situation

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not always ICU. I work Intermediate/Stepdown and with staff shortage we burn through staff like crazy. It's a vicious cycle (1/2)..

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's expensive to train new hires, so staffing is bare minimum, which exhausts current staff, which causes them to leave (1.5/2)..

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.. which finally forces the hospital to hire new people, but it's never enough so eventually THEY get burned out. On and on.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember being in LPN school some of the RN’s didn’t like that we were training in the hospital because they were cutting lpn’s

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This was almost 10 years ago , now the Hospital is begging for nurses .

As a doctor of anesthesiology the propofol one made me chortle ; and can confirm last picture. Hats off to the nursing staff ????????

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Had Propofol last year for surgery on a fibula fracture - woke up rested and refreshed. Stuff's amazing.

Nurses rock! Even the ones that have seen my penis cold...

I will always stand by my belief that being a nurse is the hardest job in the world. See messed up stuff, extremely monotonous and dull like

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

90% of the time, and you have to put up with literally the most unreasonable people ever. Nurses are saints, no one can tell me otherwise.

I've been in hospital isolation for a bit over 2 months now starting in icu isolation. You nurses are great and I appreciate your work.

8 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

Why? And how are you handling it?

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I somehow got Terberculosis. It took a long time to diagnose so it's taking a while to become not contagious. And ok I guess, I miss outside

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

How did that happen? Did they do the scratch test?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah they tested my spit. Also the 3 different women from the cdc called me an anomaly because I meet none of the criteria they look for.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yay? Does that mean you'll have to be on a med regimen the rest of your life? Where do they/you think you picked it up?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry you"re going through this BUT stay in there, Sicky Poo! We don't want your funk! LOL! Get well soon. I'm mean, totally well...please.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I couldn't leave if I wanted the cdc won't let me lol. I wouldn't wanna infect folks anyway so no worries there. Thanks for the well wishes.
