Engineers do this to fuck with mechanics...

Wait till Apple start designing cars. They'll be "brave" and you'll have to throw it away and buy a new one when it runs out of gas

U-joints for ratchets are worth their weight in gold. Holy shit do I love those little handy fuckers.

Learnt this doing the starter on my supra. 500mm extension and universal joint just to get to the bolts. Was not fun

We design cheap up front cost, anything after is the customers and service providers issue. As an engineer... we are dicks

Remember, the harder/more expensive it is to fix, the more incentive to scrap and buy again

you should see the dumb shit we have to build to get to shit on our hydraulic deck

Anything is a dildo if you are brave enough

I don't know what this means ????

Instead of removing a motor mount (which means crane and other big tools) this mech stuck together lots of tools to get around obstructions

I know a mech, and if the book says it takes 5 hrs he gets paid 5 hrs. He does shit like this saves himself 2-3 hrs and gets paid for 5.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He told me he once got paid for 24 hrs for 8 actual work hours. Pretty cool.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A++ for removal. Not so much fun for the reassemble.

Do fucking true it's painful

Pro Tip: Superglue the bolt into the socket. Glue will snap once it's threaded. Or else you abandon a socket.

Or buy some small super magnets and glue them inside the socket head - holds like a mofo but releases too.

Electrical tape around the head of the bolt will jam it sufficiently.

Pro Tip: Wrap ratchet u joints in electrical tape. They'll still flex, but wont go into full 90° lock mode.

I'm Canadian so I always used hockey tape.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I can't imagine building a car then making everything easily accessible.

The 1980 Mercedes 300D transmission bolts require about 4-5 feet of extensions and a large breaker bar if you don't wanna pull the motor.

Good way to knock a tooth out or fling a socket at your face ask me how I know

https://youtu.be/3a55OsZB6J4 Anyone here work on VW? Lol....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I need that right now! I have some stupid bolt that is hidden under a welded frame support holding on my break line that is cracked.

Starter bolts on Lexus SC400 / LS400. Get the Harbor Freight tool.
