I made this bed from plans I modified from Ana Whites website. Cheaper than buying one and I really loved this style

The bed was really an excuse to buy a new toy, my table saw

I modified the side boards with brackets so I could run bolts through them and take the bed back apart. I also added the ledge inside to run boards across in order to for a platform.

Bed before staining. Lowe's only had treated 4x4s.

I hate staining, sanding, and polyurethane.... I didn't let the stain sink in. I wiped it off immediately after putting it on to let the wood grain show through.

My dog is wondering where his is

My roommate had an LED strip laying around, so I definitely put that behind the headboard

Dog tax

So. ....where is his bed

@op I have the same plan, closing on a house end of Feb and I finally have the room for power tools!

At some point we want a floating frame but enjoy the floor cause it doesn't squeak when we move a lot ;)

Nice pupper +1

Mine is still there, been too lazy to do anything about it. This makes me want to do something about it. Beautiful work

Damn that’s beautiful.

It's kinda sad that getting your bed off the floor is a relatable thing that most of us will do because we couldn't afford the frame too.

13/10 good doggo

That's great - now hang that picture that's behind your bedside table.

Good call! I wasn't sure where the headboard would end on the wall, so I left it down for the time being

Congrats. Love excuses to buy tools. My garden build was my table saw excuse. Was the TS only used on 4x4s? Looks good

I used the table saw for everything except the 2x10s since I don't have a sled for the saw yet and they were unwieldy to push through

Look good - nice adulting!

Smarter to make your own furniture because it lasts longer, looks better and is cheaper.

Sweet as shit!

@OP What is that big ass tire for in the background?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Flipping for workouts and hitting the sledgehammer on

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Couldn’t see it in the pics, but, a couple center supports in the middle of your slats will help keep the mattress flat and level.

I definitely considered that. If I notice sagging, I will add one

this is nearly identical to the bed frame i built. nice job @OP! +1

Sweet ride!

All those years when your mom nagged you about it and you finally made your bed.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hey thx for pointing me to ana white's website. schweet!

@op what breed is your dog? Those ears are so perfect!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No idea! He's a proper American mongrel :p I love his ears so much though!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oddly enough, I came by a post from our SPCA for a dog that looks the exact same. They said he was a pitty cross. Same ears. SO cute!

That's a nice bed you got and that's a nice dog you got +1

The only reason mine is off the floor is b/c I need somewhere to store all the crap I don't want to get rid of yet don't have a place to put

I have some servers under my bed. Spare parts for one I use for work. Let me tell you how thrilled my wife is that's where they live.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I move my chest of drawers away from the side wall and put my "I'm not sure I even keep this stuff" stuff in the empty space

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The only reason mine is on the floor is because I roll around and I've fallen off of the bed quite a few times in my life.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep I need that, but at same time I don't trust my cat who like piss outside the box.

I keep telling my wife this secret, yet we're still using valuable closet space...

"I'm gonna by a new bed frame." "No, it'll be cheaper to make one. Buy a table saw instead"

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you ever recreate this project, check into sideboard hardware. Slide in brackets are an easy to take the bed apart without any tools

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thanks! I'll definitely recommend that to people

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel ya. Have plans to do this exact same thing when the next paycheck rolls in.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It wasn't a difficult build, but without that table saw, I wouldn't have cut those 4x4s with my handheld one. They were a pain all around

Puppy looks like scooby

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think more like Scrappy Doo!

I built this same bed recently...really nice job man I like the finish and led bar! I posted mine if u wanted to take a look

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It looks great! I had to adjust mine to be able to take it apart since I move around a lot

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice, @OP! I’ve had my mattress on the floor for like 8 years and finally bought a bed frame (ikea, used) that has drawers in it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice! I was debating drawers underneath, but I move around often and that would just be too bulky. I'm a little jealous though!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m having a hard time not just filling them with junk! Haha...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What stopped you from just gluing 2 2x4s together for the legs? Cheaper and not pressure treated

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Great suggestion!. I really liked the solid post look and sturdiness. I didn't want to fill in gaps for 2x4s glued together

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Once the 2x4s are glued, you could rip them square to remove the gaps. Something you could do on side tables some day.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I asked this not understanding woodworking very well too. Do you need a joiner or planer or can it be done with just a table saw?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your lats may break with time but that’s an easy fix. always preferred 1 by 2 or 3’s for that. In my experience they flex better.Great work!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks! If they start sagging too much, I plan to put a support beam down the middle

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Could do. It’s a very nice bed frame. Feel free to post any other projects, you’ll have my upvote.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I'm designing out a bar, so hopefully I'll have the time for that one soon!

Hey, excellent. Plumbing or upholstering it?
