I got married a little over a year ago. The venue ended up taking on a lot of water and eventually we had to move the whole wedding to another building... 10 minutes before I was supposed to be walking down the aisle.
Everything ended up working just fine and I hope this can be a reminder that you can't control everything (on the big day or in life) - and that's okay,
The rain beginning to come down. This was fairly early in the day and I realized we needed to go to plan B and move everything inside. We had made a back up plan just in case, so no biggie.
A couple hours later - My two brothers inspecting the aisle I was supposed to walk down which had now turned into a nice flowing river.
As the rain continued, the flooding rose and started to come in the front doors. Here are my brother and a groomsman doing their best to push the water out as much as possible.
The manager of the venue even got in on trying to keep the water out. Bless their hearts, they all tried so hard for my sake to make it work.
After every attempt was made to keep the water out, we were told it was getting unsafe from an electrical standpoint. Luckily, the venue we were at had a separate empty building we could use - but we would have to move everything over there. My dad made the announcement that we were moving 10 minutes before I was originally supposed to walk down the aisle.
Without hesitation, all of our family and friends kicked off their shoes, rolled up their pants (if they hadn't already done so), and grabbed any and all decorations they could and carried them to the other building.
My brother and niece staying in high spirits during the move. :)
I was the last one to be moved since I was already in my dress. The water was a bit colder than I expected... haha
In the end, we only ended up getting married an hour after originally planned. With the help of our family and friends, the decorations were put back together almost identically in the new building.
It may not have been what we would have planned, but we still ended up just as married by the end. At the end of the day, the only thing that mattered that day was the man waiting for me at the end of the aisle.
Bonus: Our getaway car also died as we were getting into it. By that point in the night, it just seemed really fitting haha. Don't sweat the small stuff, y'all.

Your photographer got great mileage out of it too. Congrats!

I know people cry at weddings, but this is ridiculous!
Bluegrasslass
It's about the marriage, not the wedding. Looks like you both have great families. Our 24th this year x
EveryonesRaping
at least he could brag that you were sopping wet on wedding night.
freedomslave
Not everything is perfect... and that's just A-OK...
OliverPewPewPew
@OP I actually find this charming more than anything.
sparklejars
What awesome memories of that day, everyone pitching in, such great candid photos too!
NuttierThanAJarOfGoobers
That just made for beautiful pictures. I had stomach flu the day before and had to be hospitalized. Made it to my wedding though.
fozzibab
My first wife and I got married for free at San Francisco city hall. It was boring lame. Your wedding was interesting and a struggle. Fun.
Wazkal
As Billy Idol sang: It's a nice day, for a wet wedding.
ahdz012
The springs in Katy? I'm getting married there in November!
snackmanistan
@Liddard It was a great wedding. Me and Emily miss you guys!

Your ability to deal with so many problems on your wedding day and still have a good time says a lot about your relationship.
FireEmoji
Your marriage is going to be the best in the world!
THErockinRobin

Currently trying to plan my wedding. Thank you for this.

Don't sweat the petty stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff.
DigitalGuru42
That's my favorite part!
esig
I was there, can confirm it was a fun time. That photographer was amazing and caught all the best moments on camera.
boobcat
Oh well. God didnt everything he could to warn you off the wedding so don't blame him when that decision backfires
OKWXMAN
God bless you! I wish you many happy life disasters! (Secret as you already found out and know) it's what makes everything fun for you 2!
OKWXMAN
I love the pictures and you have an amazing set of family and friends!
THEfreshestbrew
Wow, the universe was trying REALLY freaking hard to stop you two! Way to perservere!!
GlassCannon570
No, if the universe were trying to stop them, then the wedding venue would end up a crater due to an asteroid impact. Best guess: Gaia.
MoTheCentaur
You're attitude and outlook is amazing. Never understood the strive for perfection on wedding days. Seems pretty inconsequential.
Liddard
Not gonna lie, there was a lot of time and effort put in beforehand... But on the day of, those things just didn't matter that much.
Liddard
Like the fact that the programs all got left in the old venue by accident... Along with the cake... Oops.
bentheretoo
My wedding was like that, everything went wrong. People told me "Stormy wedding means smooth marriage." We'll be married 29 years next week.
Macewindow54
I could see that. Maybe if your wedding goes poorly you can see your partner at their worst.
bentheretoo
I think that's part of it, and having the sense of humor to be able to laugh it off.
raiderpower
I got married a little over 2 years ago. It happened to be the one time in decades that Texas was flooded. Our outdoor botanic garden
raiderpower
Did not happen, but we did end up married under an awning.
TorinMcQ
So that's why my first marriage went so smoothly. Now I'm in another marriage 8 years strong with a 4 yo daughter and couldn't be happier.
Liddard
We were told the same! Or as my husband said, "If rain on your wedding day is good luck, we have enough to last the next century or two." :)
cattywumpus
My mom used to say that to customers. She claimed she made it up the calm down panicky brides.
tropicalsunfish
That's so cute I'm really happy for you OP and the pic in front of the fountain is beautiful!
universalcode
Isn't it ironic?
stirmysoultogigglemode
Don't ya think.
PaulyParker
It's like raaaaaaaain on your wedding day
PleaseDisperseNothingToSeeHere
But was it smooth?
bentheretoo
Mostly yes. There have been bumps but we've managed them together.
