I brought my favorite appetizer to my boyfriend’s Thanksgiving. It’s my first major holiday away from my family in Iowa. His family had never had them and neither had any of my coworkers. Hope everyone had a great turkey day! EDIT- dried beef smothered in cream cheese (with dried onions if you chose, I don’t) then role it around a dill pickle. Best part is eating the cut off ends.

Had these a lot growing up, especially at college football tailgates. Midwest thing, I think.

That's a gross amount of cream cheese. Keep that shit away from me

Sweet gherkins, less cream cheese. First app gone at our family parties.

I hate pickles but love rating these things.

Yeah there’s not much weird shit like that on the west coast. Not that I can think of, at least.

I'm not sure these are a thing anywhere? What is this abomination.

This is so Midwest it hurts.

Hmm I bet subbing the meat for a nice cheese would be even better.

Definitely a Midwestern thing. And so tasty too!

Call it rouladen, maybe then they won't freak out.

Just deep fry them. Everyone will love them.

They loved them without deep frying

This is the best thing I’ve ever seen.

But what is it? Corned beef and cream cheese?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like dried beef around mine. I’m not a fan of the slimy texture of ham.

What exactly is that? Because I love pickles.

This is originally a German thing, minus the cream cheese.

Hahaha my son was appalled to learn today that people make butter sculptures. We taught him about Iowa and its.........uniqueness.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

They do that in Ohio as well. The butter cow is a big deal.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Just let him watch the movie "Butter"

This is a reminder for everyone to have The Talk with their kids. They need to know about the "curds and the cheese". Practice safe churning

A co worker got excessively excited when I told her about the butter cow and the fact I actually have been on a farm.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hahaha! You should take her back home with you.
