Just picked up a school bus yesterday!

Delux baby!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You might not be a fan of them, but this one is hard not to like! And TIL "school bus conversions" is a thing.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very specific to have a beef with school bus conversions. +1

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is really nice.

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

thats an odd TARDIS

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does it come with its own retractable STOP sign?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Take me with you

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it just me, or is this an ex-prison bus, not an ex-school bus?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It’s just you. https://instagram.com/going_boundless

The second repost of this repost just today!

Doing laundry while you sleep gives you one of those fancy motel beds that takes a quarter.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

looks fucking HEAVY

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Have you ever lifted a school bus seat?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like it wouldn't be weight balanced. All the stuff is on the left side of the bus.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Could be housing water storage and battery banks in the other side. These are sometimes under mounted

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like it is completely missing any living space. It has a sofa but nowhere to sit and eat and the sofa has nothing around it to do.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

There’s a table with a rolling office chair between the stove and the driver’s seat.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All the people I know that actually live out of these tend to spend majority of their time outdoors. They tour x-country for charity work. ¹

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So they spend a minimum amount of time indoors entertaining themselves. ²

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Totally get that, but just seems like a waste to have a kitchen like that then have to eat on your lap!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The main issue with these things is head room. Most of the conversions i've seen i could live with are ones where they raised the ceiling.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They are roughly 2.1m high inside, head room is no issue. https://instagram.com/going_boundless

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This is the owner. He is 6’2”

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Based on the comments am shocked so many school bus conversion haters?! Why is this so polarizing?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Misinformation and assumptions mainly.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because it's a hipster thing that looks cool on Instagram but is impractical / badly designed for real world use.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have answered my comment in multiple ways.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I give the tile 30 days before grout starts to crack..too much twist in the frame.. looks nice, travel unrealistic

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well they did it two years ago, and have driven it all over America and it hasn’t cracked... so.... you’re wrong I guess?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is not an RV. It is a fixture, and a lovely one at that

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

They drive it all round America lol

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you think it doesn't drive or something? Mine is similar and I do about 10k miles a year

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Awesome but of all the things to take up space for convenience...a stove? Wouldn't a gas one be more efficient both in space and efficiency?

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Looks like they do have a gas stove/oven

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wood burning stoves are really popular in the bus/van/tiny home world. I personally agree with you but they have a certain appeal.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That bed is not big enough. My feet would hang off the edge.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I feel you. I'm really tempted to go nomadic, but the world isn't built for people my size

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My knees would hang off. I’m kinda tall

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That is VERY nice.

5 years ago | Likes 165 Dislikes 2

The washing machine under the bed - they knew what they were doing...

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

haha bed go brrrr

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I’m assuming this bus isn’t actually going to drive anywhere

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

They’ve literally driven it across America.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why? Do you think buses don't drive? Isn't that like what they're designed for?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

All this stuff is going to shake loose if they drive anywhere. RVs are designed to take the impact of the road.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

Can you say how do they manage to? The materials they use?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mostly plastics, laminated sheeting/plys, built-ins etc. Grouted tile and free-standing appliances really aren't designed for vehicles.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It’s a Dometic appliance.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A school bus is designed to take the impact of the road too. What do you think schools do with them?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Most skoolie people I know park for extended periods and drive occasionally to get to new places to park. Lot of them flat tow a vehicle too

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And yet, you’re wrong. They tour all round the states in this.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to know a band that traveled in a biodiesel school bus with all their kids and pets. Hope they're doing alright these days.

5 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

I hope so too. Unless they abuse their pets. In that case fuck ‘em.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

Don't think so. Seemed like happy pups to me.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah good! Then I can confidently continue to wish that person well!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would you even assume that?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Cos it's 2021 and pessimism is the name of the game. No judgement from me, I fuggin get it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Unless you mean why would that even occur to me? Answer: a friend of the family is a bad person who thinks they love animals when they don’t

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never assumed they were. I just said my good-will towards them is conditional. I only extend it to people who do not abuse/neglect pets.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Idk this makes like 5 miles a gallon and you can park it only on streets. Maybe it's better to just rent a house where you want to be.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I was parked on the beach in lake Charles for 3 weeks and now I'm parked in the Mohave desert. You know what you speak sir.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you have a school bus, too?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No idea where you live, But around me, rent is really fucking expensive.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Europe. We had a house at the ocean in france for 900 Euros a week with place for 10 people :)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It does 9-10mpg, and they’ve driven it all over America.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With zombie speed, probably

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How fast would you like to drive your house?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

hottip; if you're gonna travel and live full-time look into redoing an actual RV. The frame and chassis are made to travel and insulate.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

But RVs are built with fiberglass. Check some RV crash photos. School buses are steel and built to withstand a rollover

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most RVs are built like crap, they're really not some amazing improvement over something like this bus.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

They plan to stay in Texas where the weather never gets cold. /s

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Like I said 'if you're gonna travel and live full-time'. It's good to think about. I know people who have lost their shirts on busses/vans

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never gets cold? Where were they a few weeks ago?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They drove it from California to Nova Scotia

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry, Florida to Nova Scotia.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Surprised the maritimes let them in.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where physically is the shower? It's beautiful but my brain doesn't understand lol

5 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 1

Same room as the shutter, you can see qherw the tiles from behind the toilet change to the shower ones

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

right here, see?

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

+1 to you lol

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Under the sink.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I don’t know if you found it yet, but looking from the outside at the windows should give you reference. The blank one is the fireplace

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bathroom looks to be behind the log burner wall

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Next to the bed. Look at the bed again. It doesn't take up the whole width of the bus, leaving room on the other side of the left wall.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Same room as the toilet - far back, right side. Check the wall tiles.

5 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 3

seems like its all in the overhang

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Mirror confirms it, cool!

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Left

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

If you look at the roof line above the bed, I think it's lower on the right of the picture - bed is on left of bus I think?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shower roof line slopes down on left side of picture - right side of bus?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s nice I just can’t stand up straight in a bus without hitting my head. Everyone thinks it’s so awesome being tall but don’t think/1

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How tall are you?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Too

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More than 2m?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes I’m taller than the inside of a bus. Maybe the same height as the center on some buses but everywhere else is a head scraper

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well if you’re 6’11” then ANY camper/RV/car is going to cause you problems. Not exclusively buses.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

About how everything is made for short people (in contrast) Public transportation, toilet and sink heights, countertops, everything is/2

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Too low to use without looking like a giraffe straddling down to drink at the waterhole

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Sink heights and counter tops??? Haha Science isn’t a strong point of yours is it?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Pedestal or wall mounted sinks can exist separately from counters. You’re trying really hard to make a point that is wrong

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Haha, you got anyone there with you? Stand up together and tell me if your hands are at the same height...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Spoiler alert... they are.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

This is the 6’2” owner stood in the bus...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah, before floor, ceiling, insulation. Sorry but I won’t fit. Not in a school bus anyway. Is there a picture of the owner after standing?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, there is.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

So, how tall are you then?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No way he stands in the shower straight up

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes, he does.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

So there’s no finish on the floor and no finish on the ceiling and his head already touches.
