I feel strange upvoting this, but this is for awareness right?

We already have lost Toys R' Us, we must save Imgur!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FYI - there are three categories which qualify as "Threatened" -- Vulnerable, Endangered, and Critically Endangered.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

First Toys R Us, now their mascot. What's next? imgur?

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Hey! They were trying to keep this hush-hush but you go and put them on blast. Dick.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Will reposting them bring their numbers back up?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man.. I read this in mid-bite of my giraffe hoagie. Suddenly not so hungry anymore.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The first time my username is relevant and it's super sad. I love these animals. (Twiga is swahili for giraffe)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Vulnerable" and "endangered" are different categories. If anything, say "threatened".

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn so that's what happened to Toys R Us

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

too much high diving, clearly.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can we breed them to be friendly and train them to keep tree limbs away from power lines? If yes, I might have a solution.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Username checks out, unfortunately...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They die with toys r us

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Yes, because the only thing Giraffes were ever relevant for was Imgur.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poaching can’t exist without a demand. If the Chinese think that a rhino horn tea will make your dick hard, so the poor African will kill

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Just saying, but I heard that poacher balls are a powerful aphrodisiac. Heard me there, China?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People talk about the elephant being in trouble but there's actually 4-5 times as many elephants in the wild than there are giraffes

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Considering this is the 30th time ive seen this in the last 20 hours I would say maybe it’s not so fucking silent.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Who would kill a giraffe? What for? I don't understand

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

IDK Are they good eating?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How did this happen? I thought they were the prime example of 'only the strong thrive'

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Vulberable and endangered are not synonomis.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That sentence hurt my eyes, but you're correct, "endangered" is the next category.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“The animal is already gone from seven countries, Burkina Faso, Eritrea, Guinea, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria and Senegal.”

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

They are all shithole countries anyway.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Russia. Thanks Putin.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Thanks Trump

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

If giraffe meat was delicious this would never happen.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are they good eating? What do they taste like?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

30% since when?

8 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 1

"dropped precipitously in the last 31 years, from 157,000 individuals in 1985 to 97,500 at last count". Source is the link OP provided!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

in 1985 to 97,500 at last count. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 2

97 and a half giraffe? Ezz, I wonder what half.

Can’t tell if you’re serious..

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is this giraffe attempting to seduce me?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yes, and maybe you can help with increasing their chances of survival, procreate, procreate...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Time to lube up boys ',:)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@sarah as Imgur’s mascot and icon can we together come up with a well marketed contribution effort to the giraffe’s deforestation.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I wrote to Sarah about this yesterday with a link to the previous post about this.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sarah doesn't get comment tag notifications anymore. She turned them off.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Can't imagine why.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Right?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@darkspire it's not annoying at all.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@FuriousBoredom What up.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And there's a guy in Jacksboro, TX that buys them at auction and people pay to "hunt" these beautiful creatures at his exotic hunting lodge.

8 years ago | Likes 180 Dislikes 13

Only in Tex-Ass. Sigh.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How hard is it to shoot a giraffe? They just fucking stand there looking tall.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

WTF!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are giraffe auctions?!?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well that will definitely stop now

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

So what? What puts them above other animals?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Nothing. Is this worse than global hunger? No. But if giraffes stopped existing. It makes me feel a little duller inside.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We don’t really stand for any animals getting abused or mistreated or killed for sport here on Imgur. Especially our mascot!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

About an addition 10 to 12 feet

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They have giraffe auctions?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Exotic animal auctions are held all over.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. Sarah sold one of the imgur servers to buy one.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I didn't know giraffes were so inexpensive.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This guy ISN’T the problem people. They AREN’T kidnapping wild Giraffes for the Texas hunting reserves. Blame Habitat destruction

8 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 2

If anything he's promoting the giraffe market. Wonder if that somehow helps maintain the existence of giraffes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bit of a fucked up cultural attitude to want to blast a penned placid animal though.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

That’s not that works at all.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just don’t call it hunting. A teeny step above the grocery store. Teeny tiny step

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Live groceries. Now there's a concept. Also my next album title

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This, and domestic big game hunting is an excellent was to fund habitat restoration and anti-poaching effort. It worked with White Rhinos1/2

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 4

This. Someone with a head on their shoulders. 10/10

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

they used to be nearly extinct, now they're not even threatened. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Stop killing things! There's something wrong with you if you get pleasure out of hunting and killing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

I just don't get it. You have a high powered rifle. If you do it with a knife, now I'm impressed and will concede to your manliness.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

If you eat meat and don’t butcher your own food I don’t think you’re a man.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How impressive it is has nothing to do with conservation.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And which one is more humane for the hunted?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not in all cases. What's working for the (southern) white rhino didn't work for elephants, although it seems that's more due to 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Southern white rhinos last male just died a month ago and the last 2 females can't have kids. They are going to be extinct

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the northern white rhino, southern white is now the most common species.
