I've never seen an Englishman request or eat a crumpet except on TV or in films.

FP edit: wow... I made FP with a buttered crumpet. Send pics of breakfast breads.

Does a bear shit in the wood?

I'm American and I'll vouch for crumpets.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yes. They are delicious!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What is that? Looks like half a griddle with butter (American)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So that is what a crumpet is...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Stop it. You're making me moist.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i eat that shit in texas. put an egg on top and you have achieved breakfast greatness.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I miss Texas. Wish I could move back.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah...in my house we call them butter sponges.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Spread some butter, grate some cheddar and stick in the oven, microwave or sandwich press.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm not the only one who has cheese crumpets? :O

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could smash back a whole packet of these delights. Lots of butter and honey. Big in Australia, not just U.K.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I feel the same way about eggo waffles.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's literally all Tiny Tina eats, son

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Crumpets are crunk.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From North east England and they're pretty commonly eaten

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I had crumpets yesterday.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Same here, with cheese melted on

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I lover them smothered in butter and covered in golden syrup.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's a crumpet?!?! I wondered if English people ate "English muffins" as we call them down here

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Apparently they have both.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well that's just confusing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

kinda like Canadian Bacon.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have 2 for brekkie most mornings. Butter and sunpat crunchy. Great!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We have them here in Canada, my husband and I have them with butter and Maple Syrup. It is delicious!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You already said Canada, I'm pretty sure Maple syrup is implied.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think most people eat them with jam.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Absolutely love them , best butter , touch of marmite then a thin slice of extra mature cheddar. Crumpet heaven...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yes they are fairly common, almost always on sale, 2 packs for £1.

8 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

Where?! The cheapest I've found is 65p

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

any of the big supermarkets.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have we found out where to get crumpets 2 packs for £1 yet? I've been on the edge of my seat.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait how many p's are in a £

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Living up to your username

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

100p to a £

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Marmite is a must on crumpets

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

YES!!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have opened my eyes to new realms of breakfast enjoyment

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The butter disappears in front of your eyes as your spread it.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

That's a sign your not using enough butter.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

are crumpets the same thing as english muffins?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

no. Crumpets are cooked on one side only and made with a thinner batter. Muffins are allowed to rise and cooked on both sides, so no holes.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

English muffins have the exact same holes as the picture

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Only if you cut them in half. That's a whole uncut crumpet.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

TIL, ty! .. now i want to try a crumpet..

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are you in the US?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The holes are hidden on the inside.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This English / American eats them occasionally, I make homemade Egg McMuffins with them.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

homemade eggy muffin thingy master race! (?)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Crumpet and muffin are not the same thing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Details details

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me too! Or I'll make scrambled eggs, bacon and just butter/toast these on the side

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do. Had one yesterday. I prefer them with mayonnaise though.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I love mayo.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now that's just weird!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The only English crumpets I've ever seen are on page 3 of The Sun.

8 years ago | Likes 349 Dislikes 10

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Omg haha I'm listening to "Stupid Human - Gun-Ga-Din (Get On Up)" and that gif was fucking perfect. Lol

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You misspelled The Sun it's pronounced "Toilet roll".

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

"Shit rag"

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's a difference. The crumpets have this weird bubbly interior, the muffins are more like normal bread.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

English muffins are different. Those are what you get on a McMuffin. They're more bread-y. Crumpets are spongey and chewy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is there a difference between this and an English Muffin?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No such thing as an English Muffin, it's just muffin. American muffins are just cupcakes. Crumpets are more chewy than muffins

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Are they sweet?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, just plain tasting. Spread strawberry jam and whipped cream, put in mouth and chew. Delicious. Slightly chewy.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think you mean strumpets.

8 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 0

Crumpet is also slang for females... watch the movie Faster (about MotoGP) "Why race MotoGP? The crumpet I suppose." - Sheeny

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Stupid phone, *Sheene

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's cockney rhyming slang for strumpet.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No question. But it popped into my brain anyway and I ran with it. ;)

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Strumpets with Crumpets!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Im scottish and i do. We have giant ones now. The size of my face

8 years ago | Likes 172 Dislikes 3

Is it all cratered and greasy too?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Pancakes?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you have crumpets like that as well? Asking for a friend

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is it like a blini? A non spongy pancake?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its an extra spongy savoury pancake

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had christmas tree shaped ones for christmas when I stayed with my mum! I miss crumpets, can't get them in Spain ;-;

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Texas crumpets?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Megacrump.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that the Warburtons one? Fucking magnificent they are

8 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Made me super sad to pretty much boycott these soon after they came out. Bloody Tories ruin everything

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stop, please. One can only get so erect

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

British people!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Either a really small face or really bad eyesight? Also didn't you start calling them "freedom muffins"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're scottish. We dont rename things to include freedom. Only america doea that

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bad taste joke, sent in impetuousness at a bus stop. Apologies

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

of course you do. Are they deep fried?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

:O I'll be right back

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck up ya dafty

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Hoho, big funny man wae the played out deep fried patter. What's next, something about heroin?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does Scotland have a drug problem?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can you get one made into a pizza?

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

That sounds delicious.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is Scotland, you can get one made into a pizza, and then deep fried!

8 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Pictures!!! And you will reach the FP!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You answered my follow-up question.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I wish I could up vote this again.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

as an Italian-american... i feel like we would get along

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an American, I agree. But we'd probably take your deep fried items, batter and deep fry them again, after adding bacon of course.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Canadian here, we call them English Muffins and they are the best.

8 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 9

Crumpets are made only using baking soda, where as English muffins are made with yeast or sourdough

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hmm, you sure you don't just think they look like English muffins? Crumpets and English muffins are two different items. Similar though.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Agreed. Simply put, one is a yeasted bread dough and the other is more of a batter/dough leavened with baking soda .

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also Canadian here. You are incorrect. Crumpets and English muffins are 2 totally different things. Crumpets are infinitely better.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Canadian here, no we don't. English muffins and crumpets are distinctly different things where I am, in all grocery stores and restaurants.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Same in America. My dad eats them all the time

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Other Canadian here, we call them crumpets and English Muffins, English Muffins.... :(

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Other other Canadian here, English muffins are completely different from crumpets, crumpets are one sided, english muffins are cut in half

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Wait, what do you call English Muffins in Canada then?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Crumpets

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Northern English bloke here, we call them pikelets up here. I do eat them but not often.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pikelets are very thin crumpets though. M&S do a lovely buttermilk pikelet.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know they're different to crumpets. I think it's a local thing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In Staffordshire (home of the oatcake) pikelets are slightly thicker pancake type things with currents in them

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hugely popular in Australia too.

8 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 2

Remember those Australian Toaster Biscuits commercials? They were fucking adorable.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Crumpet with butter and vegemite!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yessss. I have one with peanut butter, and one with Jam and butter.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also in New Zealand, love me some hot crumpet.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep I have them every morning for breakfast!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still miss the BCW ones though, they were the best!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know what bcw ones are.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought you guys ate pikelets :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We eat pikelets, in my experience crumpets are more common.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We eat all kinds of shit

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tim Tams, Tiny Teddies, Nutri Grain, Caramel Koalas, Curly Wurly, Freddo Frogs.. mmmmm

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We eat them too.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

WTF IS A PIKELET OMFG

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Best reaction ever!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hyperbole. It's what's for OMFG WTF IS THAT OVER THERE?!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not too different to a pancake. Smaller though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not sure about the texture, but those look exactly like American 'Silver Dollar Pancakes'.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pikelets are smaller and have alot more sugar in them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hell yes! Also, Warburtons or GTFO

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Kingsmill all the way LOL!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

3 years later, here to say AGREED!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are the best. Takes longer to toast but worth it once oozing with butter.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have to run 2 toaster cycles with a gap inbetween so it can cool and then go crispy.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Impressive technique.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I might have to look into getting someone to send me some.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Try with peanut butter. It's amazing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Warburtons do big ones now as well. They only just fit in the toaster and are epic in every way.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So I should look for gigantic crumpets for my quarterly shipment (sarson's vinegar, salad cream, and proper f-ing HP sauce)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah! Get some proper Cornish pasties in there as well. WC Rowe ship them frozen worldwide.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually good on the pasties, we've got http://www.cornishpastyco.com locally founded by a Cornish expat. Super popular + very good.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have an incredible sticky pudding, I swear each one has 1/4 can of lyle's in it.
