And yet they cannot harm you in any way. They actually lack mouths and digestive organs. They're just giant bags of fat, muscle, and gonads.

Its a cecropia moth. They're massive. Like 6+ inch wingspan. If you wanna see some more coolness out of them, check out their caterpillars.

Wild, what spikey lads

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s a cecropia moth. It’s one of the largest moth species in North America. The caterpillars are lovely. I raised a few.

7 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

Maybe I'll do that some day

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should! There are entomologists on instagram who will send you eggs. One is @ ilovelepidoptera. It’s seasonal so come spring.

Prometheus moth

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 5

Close. It's a cecropia moth. prometheus moths don't have the open teardrops on each quarter. Just the lower half has only narrow ones

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

They're similar in size, but the patterns are different. Those two and the atlas moth look pretty similar

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Lotaxi really knows his moths

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Entomology has been a hobby of mine since i was a preschooler. I love insects. Fuck ants though. I would rejoice if they all died
