After 30 yrs of flying, I got hosed down, set the brakes and walked away. I turn stupid on my 65th birthday and they won’t let me fly the Drag Queen anymore.

Congrats - I hope it was a great party ;)

My son has twice flown a tutor T1 aircraft, 2 x 1/2 hour. Second time they let him do loops. He was 13 first time, 14 now. Other end of coin

We see a mother jet at her baby shower, getting cleansed just before the birth of a new Boeing jet on a rare sunny day in Seattle

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Yeah of course, @OP. You turn stupid at 65, and we get a magic box of driving talent when we turn 25 so our car insurance premiums go down.

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Congrats and condolences. I hope you had fun!

All in all , it’s been the best job I’ve ever had! And I’ve had many different ones.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I'm training to become an aviation maintenance technician and they'll let us work until we die no age limit and we keep the planes together

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You should see the ones that walk up to the airplane with a cane! We really do have one at this airport.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In awe at the size of that lad. Absolute unit

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought buy the “im DONE” I thought something funny was going to happen

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Congrats, from the MX side of the LCF

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you, you’ll laugh, we were delayed out of CHS an hour for a fuel leak in the left wing fueling port. It was a quick fix!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for sharing. Looks like you’ve had a lovely and adventurous life. To many more years, @op

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks, it’s the best job I’ve ever had. ( and I’ve had quite a few)

Mate, talk about home and hosed.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They say the first step in solving a problem is admitting you have one, but they also say you can't fix stupid so...

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Happy retirement! Will you be flying something smaller for your own pleasure, or is 65 basically wings clipped?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I have a little Cessna 182 straight tail.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was waiting for it to shake off like a dog.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Damn! Now wouldn’t that be funny....

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you, it’s been a long long road....

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you, the folks that only fly PAX are the real heroes for doing that. I’m pretty much a Freight Dog.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He flew for 30 years and can't even spell brake correctly!

Color tastes the best though! Cause you can bet they have tried every single color and most say that purple is the tastiest.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I have just come to the conclusion that every pilot i ever see/talk to were never the bightest crayon in the box. They can tell me which 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

You’re right! I feed them to my copilots ....

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He said he turns stupid on his 65th birthday, clearly it's now past his birthday, give him a brake ;)

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

*break.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

Yes, it was intentional, hence the winky face.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I know. I was joking too. For someone so versed in sarcasm you seem to have a hard time picking up on it.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Sarcasm doesn't come through in text without some indication, you literally typed one word.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t cross the streams!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Now that’s funny! I should have told them that on the radio.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Are you the pilot that landed at the wrong airport in Kansas??!

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Had a UPS pilot land a 737 at the TINY airport in Durango Colorado one time. Unloaded, drained fuel to take it back off.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nope! He’s long since (forced to) retired.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Whoa so you actually know how to fly not just pushing auto pilot? That’s pretty awesome. Look into crop dusting still make money flying

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I cut my teeth in C45’s C46’s and C47’s... (Beech 18’s, Curtiss Commando’s and DC 3’s), you?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do not enjoy flying at all scares the fuck out of me.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can you message me?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I might just do that! I’ll go nuts just sitting around.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Farmers need good crop dusters. I work in ag. Please look into it

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, if anything, I’m good at is dropping shit! I guess I could do that.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol thats the right attitude:)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I"m 60. Figure the chemicals can't kill me any faster than time will. time for ME to go fly crop dusters.

Pawnee...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ha drag queen, that’s awesome. Why 65? I figured you guys would be flying that beast part 91.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Boeing contracts Atlas Air to fly their Dreamlifters. (The Boeing pilots refused to fly them)

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah that makes sense. I went to college with a guy that used to be one of your pursers. The pictures of some of the travel was awesome.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's interesting... For "That's not my job" or "I don't dare it" reasons, or what?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The aircraft were modified in Taipei, they didn’t want to fly something that was built by the Chinese. I think they did a damn good job!!!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That WAS interesting, thanks for the explanation. Surprised they couldn't whip something together at home.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I believe it had to do with the Union. When Boeing contracts out work, this is how they react. I don’t blame them.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any advice for aspiring pilots @op?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You start with a full bag of luck, and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill up the experience before you run out of luck.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Altitude is money in the bank. Airspeed is change in your pocket. Don't go broke.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Any landing you walk away from.....

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Message me! I’ll be glad to help.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stay in the middle of the air. most edges you may encounter are very hard and dangerous.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shinny side up! Greasy side down!!!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is a real thing when pilots retire? I think “if” you retire as a lawyer they give you a bottle of scotch and tell you to fuck off.

7 years ago | Likes 1004 Dislikes 1

Just like my secondary school.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Almost. They say, "We are not your lawyers, and this is not legal advice. Fuck off."

7 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

Knew a pilot's daughter. Yes it is. Dad & I = lawyers he'll get a tombstone as he won't retire (41 years in 2019). Hoping for a Rolex myself

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

They didn't when my dad retired because if scheduling problems but we had a massive storm on his final flight which kinda counts, right?

7 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

It does, good sir! *pat on the shoulder

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yeah. It's common for a pilots "last flight." Military squadrons do it pretty regularly when someone leaves. Sometimes with beer r champagne

I want to retire as a lawyer. Like, at least once a week.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Firefighters have to retire at 60 where I'm from

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Retirement is a thing? Here I'm pretty sure as a tradesmen I'll have to work till I keel over.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

In Europe Pilots have to retire at 61. ATC as early as 55.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure my retirement is just continued work.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poor guy :/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

welcome to the Trades. Break your body and get no where. :D

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Used to be 61 in the US, they changed it a few years back

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad is a pilot, yeah a lot of companies have a mandatory retirement age. It used to be 60.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not for every pilot, I don’t think, but that bird’s pretty special.

7 years ago | Likes 324 Dislikes 0

It's for almost every retiring Captain. Largely depends on the airline, but most of them do it.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They just did one the other day while i was working for one of the Delta pilots at DTW

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Bird? That's a plane.

A ridiculous amount of Cat cables and the keys to the Internet, or so I've heard...

Depression, PTSD, and a general hate for the human race. Source: am tech support too

Probably the death penalty. I'm sure it will be a reward at that point :P

An ultra-cheap Windows laptop that won't run Linux.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

My dick has enough processing power to run a distro of Linux. Do not underestimate the power of open source.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not about specs. I just got done setting up Xubuntu on a 15-year-old laptop. Some newer laptops are locked down and can't boot Linux.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait, did you *actually* get to fly THAT beast, @OP?

7 years ago | Likes 315 Dislikes 6

That's fantastic, @OP, enjoy your retirement

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also what are you feeding that thing?

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Mounds motherfucker, you dense?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too much.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Smaller airplanes. Piece by piece. Not even kidding. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DDcS7c4VoAAvaYd.jpg

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, and the fun part is this is the same airport that I soloed at when I first started flying.

7 years ago | Likes 539 Dislikes 1

You used to fly over my house in Edmonds all the time! Happy retirement!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is that huge windowless beast used for?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Transporting 787 fuselages

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow! I always wanted to be a pilot. Conratulations and enjoy your retirement!

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Congrats on the retirement be sure to enjoy it anyway you see fit. Family, friends and whatever it may be. All the best.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ontario?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I read this as, "Learned to fly, never left the airport." :)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

did you come up with any fun names? Any interesting characteristics?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No not really, but I can only imagine what my copilots have said about me ( “Do you know what that Asshole Captain did...”)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice! Well done!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I sense a #storytime here @op

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He apparently saw the runway at Jabara, focused on it , not his instruments, and landed. The copilot was a new hire.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Cool, I’m about to head to the airport in less than an hour here, I love flying on a plane, I feel like everyone else is always nervous..

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love that plane! Always a treat to watch it take off from CHS.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should see them line up at Nagoya. They are very proud of the fact that they are part of manufacturing of the Dreamliner.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

CHS?

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

North Charleston, South Carolina

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I think I saw this! I was curious what was going on. I work on the connected base.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now it's part 91 to Aspen and the Caymans after you get tired of golf next year.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FISH! We live for fish....Fish is our life! ( old Alaska native saying).

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Were you one of the pilots to land at the tiny airport??

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No, he has also long since retired.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@OP pls. To anyone asking; the airplane in question landed in a small'ish neighbor airstrip instead of McConnell Air Force nearby.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

https://www.wired.com/2013/11/dreamlifter-wrong-airport/ The problem is that the other strip was only 6,101 feet long.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What tiny airport?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nice. You've probably been into Paine Field before, so I've probably waved at you.

7 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

Paine Field? Do tell me more it's the Family name!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paine_Field Named for Topliff Olin Paine

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you. I was first thinking it may have been named after Sir Thomas Paine. Appreciate the info.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
