Practicing airway skills.
I always wanted to be a paramedic but I thought I was too stupid to do it. I was never a good student in highschool so I got a college degree in something else, worked for several years but always dreamed of going back to school. I was in a relationship where he didn't support me in going back too school, when I left him I was so financially unstable (he made me pay him to get my stuff back and get out of the apartment lease) that I couldn't afford to go back to school. Finally after getting my shit together, I'm in a healthy happy relationship, I have a great job that's been flexible with my school schedule, and teachers who are amazing. I'm currently in EMT school then moving on to get my paramedic degree. Kicking ass and taking name, and proving to myself that I can fucking do this!

Take good care of your back, your health, & mental health. You have to be proactive in caring for yourself in this field. Good luck!

I just finished nursing school and believe paramedics don't get enough credit for what you do

Congrats!

Good luck from an EMT
DamnitCletus
Goodluck OP, it's one of the best jobs there is.

Minnesota!

you go through paramedic school twice once in school and you have to learn it all again on the street. Good luck and welcome to the family

Some of the best advice I've ever seen

Good job OP, but uh... that's not the ass you're jamming a tube into. Just thought I'd point that out.
mofomeat
Ok, I posted silliness before I read about your hardships. Way to fucking go! As you can see HS performance means nothing. You're on it!
MaxPowerdosentsnuggleyoustrapyourselfinandfeeltheGs
As a FF/EMT, it's the best job out there as far as Im concerned. I was in the same boat, sucked in school & was a drop out. This job rocks!
DamnitCletus
Well let me climb aboard, I was a HS dropout too and now I am currently going into my 3rd year as FF/Paramedic. It really is the best job!

11 years here. Wouldn't change it for the world.

Wrap your finger and thumb around the tube and hold the face. Always stabilize against the pt, makes it harder to slip it out or too deep.

That’s what she said.....

Though it looks like you are using a King with a bougie?
hellhasfrozenover
We we're practicing tracheal intubation. I know it's a medic skill but our teacher thinks it's good we at least have an idea of what it is.
hellhasfrozenover
Especially if we're planning on moving on to medic school. We practice IO skills too just for fun

My wife caught the bug after being a volunteer EMT gig. Long story short, look into RN exempt paramedic. You'll make $4/hr more.
OPAndrew
RN exempt paramedic?
IMoveWithTheEleganceOfAnAfricanElephant
You get your associates RN degree rather than becoming a licensed para. You can, however, get hired as a paramedic and get paid like an RN
OPAndrew
Yeah RN takes 4 years from scratch if you have no Associates... whereas Paramedic can be done in less than a year.
IMoveWithTheEleganceOfAnAfricanElephant
You Canadian by chance? RN in the US is a 2 year degree. 4 year is BSN for us. Also, paramedic is a 2 year degree here.
