Underground Theme Park in Romania

Salina Turda, located in Turda, Romania, is home to an underground theme park that's nestled inside one of the oldest salt mines in the world. Salina Turda is around 400-feet deep. Today, it has been transformed into an incredible underground theme park. (Business Insider)

Haha salt mine... this won't end well..

A theme park? In Transylvania? Nice try, Vlad.

I’ve been there. It feels very otherworldly. 10/10 would recommend

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've been there! It's really cool going through all the tunnels to get down there, but the temperature drop is real. Take a jacket.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've been there. Amazing place! but I wouldn't call that a theme park. Few ping-ping tables were sure a surprise but that's all from "theme"

The theme is "If there's a blackout the monsters from pitch black are gonna kill us all"

Or possibly the rising groundwater when the water pumps fail

Joke's on you, I've never seen "The Descent"!

What could possibly go wrong?

4 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

Just add dinosaurs

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just bring emergency lighting, and not much. The cave its carved out of is centuries old, and it isnt an earthquake region.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not much?

Well, it is not only in Romania, but smack in the middle of Transylvania, so suspicious indeed.

Covid lock down has been hard on everyone. But the 1% are always going to find a way to prey on people.

Um hm um hm, go down into the depths of a cavern in ROMANIA...for fun. Sure, sure. I'm not falling for that again.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Turd..a?? That's interesting.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I see no theme. I see an amusement park.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I’ve been trying to figure out the theme... salt? Being underground? Fear of death?

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah obviously they'd have a theme park in a dark cave devoid of sunlight

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was there! Long story, it's super cool but much sketchier irl than in the photos

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It's still a salt mine at heart :P

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 out of 10 times, "but much sketchier" describes Romania perfectly.

Does that translate to “salt turds?”

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Turda mine.. sorry for the disappointment.. Turda is the city's name.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Turda salt (specifically) mine. Salina means a mine for salt. Like saline solution is a solution with salt. Because Latin.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've been there! Neat and salty. There was a chamber you could step into that looked out over a larger cavern and there were good echoes.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Can you lick the walls?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You could. I licked my finger, touched the wall, tasted my finger. It was salty.

How was the air? Soothing for lungs?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nah, smelled like Turda.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The air was salty. I didn't notice any effect on my lungs that I remember.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was a very allergic and sickly child, but most of the ailments went away when travelling to the Mediterranean with me ma. Was it the salt

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

in the marine tourist locations or the sunshine (or just the D-vitamin) that was so beneficial, I'll never know. But I've kept my mind open

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

towards the salt therapy and such as an adult.

I'm 35. It's immediately what I thought. I may need to mature some.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am also 35. I don't think you need to mature. You just get to an age where you stop pretending fart jokes aren't funny.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think I ever pretended fart jokes weren't funny.

Gotta say I would NOT ride those boats in that black water.

There's probably pirates of black water there. I'm with you pal

Floating on turda

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I have. The water is freezing cold, idk how deep though, but still... if you fall in it, you're gonna have a bad time

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't even worry about it...it's only shitfull of dead souls waiting for revenge

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would you be pulled from your boat by grey slimy tentacles and dragged down to your doom in the freezing water? I'm going to say definitely.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

absolutely.

I am the Lizard Queen!

Fucking rights!! Shits creepy as fuck yo

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I did. It's terrifying.

I've done it!! You just go around a little salt island and back.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of it isnt very deep. The extreme saturation of salt makes you float in the water if you are to fall in. The boats are super crusty tho

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why not? just too creepy or is there actually a danger?

4 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

The inferi will attack if you touch the water, don’t risk it for a hot lake pic

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The water is cold

Salt mines often contain carcinogenic diesel particulate and chemical spills that aren’t tended to. Source: I work at a salt mine.

Underground kelpies. Fucking nasty motherfuckers.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's fucking cold

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Is...is that all though?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Like really cold

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They have a lagoon like this in th Wieliczka salt mine in Poland. There was a boat accident and a bunch of people died. Now it's roped off.

4 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Seems like it would be really easy to float if you fell in.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Is that why they finally closed that off? Wonder how hard it would be to drown in ultra saturated saline... Seems like it would push you up

4 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

shits cold af around the year so propably panicked when dropped in and drowned

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

first thing you need to do when dropped in freezing water is to recollect your thoughts and calm yourself

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As long as you're not trying to collect your thought-pennies (or grosze in this case) from the cavern bottom

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was taught 1-10-1; 1 minute to catch your breath, about 10 minutes of useful movement, 1 hour until you pass out

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know exactly. I was a kid and it made an impression on me. I know there was a large raft that capsized.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I suppose if you're trapped between the raft and the water, you're kinda fucked. Can't dive under, it's like mud

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Yea, I see how that could ruin your day
