I find it oddly satisfying

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Excuse me I have a sudden desire to go brush my teeth

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I have done hundreds of canine dental cleanings. This is nothing!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ditto! If people are disgusted by this I hope they look at their canine companions and realize the same thing happens to them. (And kitties)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Omg last week I went for my cleaning and my HYGIENIST said she won't pay for her 8 yr old Wheaton to have her teeth done. I died inside :(

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this is so goddamn satisfying! I do it as often as my dentist allows. I just feel so.. pure after.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

That’s satisfying in a Dr. PimplePopper kind of way.

8 years ago | Likes 587 Dislikes 7

You mean like Professor TonsilStoneRemover?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Haha, I find it very satisfying, have you ever had a popcorn kernel stuck in your teeth and then you finally remove it, its amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I was going to say in a sucking up dustbunnies with a vacuum way, but you're right!

I really need to get set up with a dentist again. Been 10 years. Just forgotten really. Still have no fillings at 30. Want to stay that way.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I need to go the tooth doctor.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Alright! I just downloaded Imgur after my coworker told me about it, and this was the very first post that I have seen! I feel like I belong

But they obviously flossed, cause I don't see any blood.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait what the fuck

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dentist phobia + embarrassment about how bad the situation's gotten + no money = This both terrifies me and makes me envious. Weird combo.

8 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 1

Suck it up pussy, it's gonna be much worse if your teeth fall out

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

when you call to make an appointment ask if they can give you Nitrous oxide for anxiety, many will be able to help

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and no matter how bad you think it's gotten, they've seen worse

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ugh i havent been in like 8 years and now im terrified, i can feel the tooth has degraded on the gumline of a few.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well if having no teeth at 50 is worth avoiding a few moments of anxiety and embarrassment, you go you!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1. Check Groupon for cleaning & X-ray deals. 2. Dentists won't judge you. 3. Ask for nitrous oxide ahead of time for the dental anxiety.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was in this situation, sucked it up and was very upfront about it with the dentist about it. She was beyond kind now i have braces :D

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was in no money situation but in a country with minimal lawyers so I used to fix dentists xrays and shit and trade it for fillings

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bet I'd need 5 billion licenses now in US

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

to be honest, last year I took a job just for the dental and eye care plans, after I got my stuff done I left because the pay wasnt that good

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a hygienist. We don't judge, I swear. And I guarantee we've seen worse. Go to a nearby school for a cleaning it's probably under $30

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

How would you find one? Just Google hygienist school?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah that would work. Most state and technical colleges have a hygiene program. Universities do too sometimes

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

“Don’t judge?” Right. If I go in there and admit I haven’t brushed more than 4x/year for the last 20 years, there’s going to be judging.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Really, how do you brush so few times a year?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same way you brush, but only when my mouth feels nasty and I'm Ok with a bit of dry-heave/vomit.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think you'd have teeth left at that point. We are trained to be professional so if your hygienist judges you she's just a bitch.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My comment was what I actually am. I've never had tooth pain, never had a cavity (that I'm aware of), but brushing makes me vomit. So....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

/2 I just don't bother. But my doc recently asked about dental/optical hygiene and strongly encouraged me to see a dentist. It's time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, this just encourages my shitty hygiene: "No teeth left." I think dentistry needs more reality and less dogma.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dentistry is about as real as it gets. If you don't brush your teeth at least 2 times a week, there will be rampant decay and tooth loss.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want more

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just YouTubed some videos like this. I don’t know why I did that.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Teeth are meant to be cared for. If you don't clean them or see a dentist regularly, you'll end up missing a few in your 30's and 40's.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 4

In my state I qualify for insurance but at the same time I don’t. Haven’t seen a doctor in 9 years.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've seen a doctor twice since I graduated HS almost ten years ago. Both were mandatory physicals for job/school.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's even more hazardous that that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been missing 2 since I was 12, dentist decided to pull 2 bc my mouth couldn't hold them all

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well aren't you just made of money. Spent so long poor as fuck with not coverage, I legit am afraid to go now.

Same here. Didn't go for 13 years after having my braces off and no cavities or anything. I brush religiously, so that may have helped.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not that lucky, 2 impacted wisdom teeth, and two more need to be pulled at the least. Don't take a curling brrom to the face btw

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was too, for the same reason. That first cleaning after eight years of neglect was painful. But I felt SO much better after. Do it!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The sooner you go the better. If you wait until it hurts then its going to cost a lot more and hurt a lot more to fix any issues.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Welp, I am truly fucked them :D

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mm. mhm. This is fine. Everything is fine until it hurts.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Siff upper lip my friend. Don't complain till you drop dead

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was in that situation until recently. I've been going regularly for a couple years now and it gets much easier very quickly. Don't delay.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Soon ™

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm curious to have the knowledge of knowing how long the gap between the teeth and gums are prevalent for?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

....what?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Curious as well. And how are they not bleeding?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I go in for a full cleaning, exam, x-ray and hopefully a wisdom tooth extraction. This is perfect timing for this post.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tomorrow morning*

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Last wisdom tooth I had out the dentist and nurse got more and more tense while trying to remain calm, tooth not budging. 45 mins in...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They peel off for a meeting in the corner "his bone is like concrete, get me the (insert tool name here)". Still didn't work...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Finally he caves and sections the tooth out piece by piece over another 45 mins. Afterwards says "next time find another dentist"...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Quite a proud moment for me in an otherwise bland life.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This one shattered about a year ago and has been losing little pieces since. It hasn't ever hurt so I didn't bother with it. Now it's 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

making my breath stink so it needs to go. Hate having bad breath. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always feels good once they heal up, loosens the jaw I reckons

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a molar that recently broke a fair bit at first, then more just recently, but need money to get it fixed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just got added to my wife's insurance (self-employed, SaHD). Haven't had any for ~4 years now. You might look into local dental schools.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have this done to my teeth yearly. I never have holes. This fucking sucks. I hope holes are worse.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I had a tooth die once, it felt like a hot soldering iron jabbed into my gum for hours.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holes are worse. Root canals are much worse, as are extractions. Implants and crowns, much, much worse. Admiral Personal Knowledge here.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Sweet :D

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Root canals are Hitler himself.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gums look healthy though

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 5

It’s not the tartar that cause inflammation but the bacterias

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

?? They're recessed as fuck and they're white around the calculus which probably means not alot of blood flow

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

They often do if the patient is a smoker, localised reduction in blood flow leads to less bleeding and redness of the gums

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Some people are just predisposed for the plaque to build up like that no matter what they try.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Like me apparently!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same. Both parents have poor teeth no matter what.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a metal wire on the backs of my teeth as a retainer and you would not believe the crap that builds up

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that plaque or tooth fragments? Gross either way, just curious

8 years ago | Likes 1193 Dislikes 7

Plaque. These videos are so soothing for some sick reason.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

cat and dog dentals are always like this, years of tartar to crack off, kinda satisfying until you get a rotten tooth that just falls out

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

neither, TARTAR.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 6

That's really bad... A LOT of calculus. I missed 3 years of visits, and it wasn't great, but not even the same planet as that gif...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tartar sauce

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So that is how they make it...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup, just ad pickles

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hasn't this person had dreams where their teeth fall out??

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

My sister works as a cashier. She's got maybe 10 full teeth left. She can't even afford to get them pulled and get dentures without help.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hot flashback of Nathan explosions no teeth dream, bleh.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know I did, had nightmares... I got all my top teeth pulled at 35.... take care of your fucking teeth!

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

as a 20 year old with fucked up teeth I agree with this statement so much. EVEN IF IT HURTS brush your teeth when you have braces!!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I get those whenever I'm going to have major dental work done.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a recurring dream where my teeth break apart while chewing gravel, but that's due to sexual frustration from what ive read.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You might be grinding your teeth in your sleep. That definitely sounds like a situation in which your real body and dreams collide.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had dreams where I would clench my teeth so hard that they cracked and fell out. Wasn't until I slept with my gf for the first time (1)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that anyone noticed I grinding my teeth in my sleep loud enough to be heard across the room. (2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do grind. Was losing money on night guards so I stopped.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know but just imagine the smell of that thing

8 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 2

It doesn't. I have horrible dental habits and this happens to me. It's definitely not good tooth care, but it's like rock, not poop.

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

I had bad dental habits too.... now I don't have any top teeth....

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Why? why would you let that happen? *smacks him in the head*

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Dentist here, calculus has a horrible smell

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If you know you have horrible dental habits why don’t you change that?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

For me, parents were anti-doctor. First dentist visit was in my 30's. Even after major dental surgery, I'm still terrible about it. *shrug*

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Everyone has their vices. Some people drink, smoke, gamble, or do drugs. I don't brush or floss often enough.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I spent years in Orthodontia as a kid. It left me with an irrational resentment of teeth care. C'est la vie.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For me, parents were anti-doctor. First dentist visit was in my 30's. Even after major dental surgery, I'm still terrible about it. *shrug*

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Because no one is perfect

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you never brush and floss soft plaque builds up around teeth and eventually calcifies. Calcified plaque is called calculus or tartar.

8 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 3

Yo I have so much tartar, I don't have to dip my fish sticks in shit!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You've.....dipped fish sticks in shit?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jeez Mitch, that's a little much

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This guy gets it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is... Is it really called calculus?

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Yes it is

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

AP Honors Calculus

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In dentistry, calculus or tartar is a form of hardened dental plaque.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Well I don't get calculus either way.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Same here buddy, same here, lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had to read through the comments before realizing you were actually using a real dental term.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You + Me = Us

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

teeth prime. look how the plaque integrated.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't exactly know why, but I busted out laughing at this way harder than was probably necessary

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My wife, a dental hygienist, explained that plaque is soft, calculus is hardened plaque. Oh, and she scraped off worse than this just today.

8 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

/gag

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

She loves this shit. It’s weird I know.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

calculus isn’t flexible and doesn’t come away from the tooth without scaling.

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 7

I've taken off calculus with a cavitron.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

but is this calculus...? i’m starting to think it might be.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's calculus aka tartar. A nasty case but not that rare.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is most definitely calculus. It's referred to as a wall when it's built up on the mandibular anteriors like this. Satisfying to remove

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

gotcha. then i got confused because that’s the posterior aspect of the tooth. i need to step away.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's an ultrasonic scaler. Way gentler on the gums and the doc's hand.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Must be free clinic day. I cant imagine anyone willingly letting their teeth get that way unless they simply couldn't afford to be seen.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It just keep going and going, like the energizer bunny.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

does anyone want to see the belly button abscess?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

plaque. years of neglect

8 years ago | Likes 881 Dislikes 18

Really, that’s fucking awful

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That doesn’t make sense. I’ve neglected my children for many years and they don’t have plaque.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

They just are hungry and have mental health issues

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would it really be years worth?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i need this every six months, it's not years

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same I brush and floss but I need this removed 2x a year

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would it really be years worth? I would have thought you could get that from less time if you never brushed your teeth.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe not neglect, lots of people cant afford the dentist

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 6

You don't need a dentist to prevent a buildup like *that*. A toothbrush and maybe some floss should be enough.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That still meets the definition of neglect. Starving your kids because you can't afford food is still neglect.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's still neglect. We don't have a gentler term for "I would have taken care of my teeth if only I had money."

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 13

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Neglect means fail to take care of properly. No matter the reason.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Right. It's just the most accurate term.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, I had this. It took some deep cleaning sessions to get it removed. I brushed every day. But when they mean floss as well, THEY MEAN IT!

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 3

Found the dentist

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wasn't it recently announced by a group of dentists that flossing supposedly was pointless or something?

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

Its not useless, but its less than useful for your molars (its great for incisors and front teeth). Use toothpicks for molars (triangular)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, you want tape-like floss, not stringy floss

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

IIRC, it was more that the studies claiming benefits were poorly done; but nobody bothering to do a proper study doesn't automatically 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

mean that the opposite is true. Not looking properly and finding something doesn't mean that there isn't anything if you do look properly.2/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No long term benefits, but it feels damn good when you've got something stuck!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't deny that! Fucking corn.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is no evidence for flossing preventing caries, but there is for it being a preventive factor regarding parodontitis and gingivitis.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I used to have bleeding gums as a teen. Disappeared once I started flossing daily.

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

You can’t fool me! I know you’re a dentist!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to bleed from just brushing. Now I floss and the bleeding is gone too. I only bleed when I cut myself with floss. Like papercuts.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Disagree completely. My gums have stayed healthy because I floss every day.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Waterpik is where it’s at. My dentists recommends it over floss. $50. Started 6 months ago and it’s made a HUGE difference.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Years of neglect, yes, but that's calculus. Plaque comes off with a toothbrush and floss (my wife & her family are dental professionals)

8 years ago | Likes 270 Dislikes 3

now i know why my dentist wants me to have a dental prophylaxis every year, or better twice a year.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Teeth and gums look healthy and white, how can it be that bad without the teeth and gums suffering?

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Healthy gums are pink. The calculus (calcified plaque) invades where the gums should be & starts becoming part of the structure of the tooth

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

It leads to recession of the gums, & once it's removed the teeth lose some structural support + more susceptible to damage & other issues
