Yeah I am going to move in next to a concert venue and bitch about the noise myself. That will show those entitled assholes using a place for its intended purpose! /s Plus you have ZERO idea how these people settled the matter. You are just making assumptions so you can be mad. Be better.
Usually, when I hear about these things, they build these things in existing neighborhoods, or convert existing areas to it, like with pickleball using tennis courts which are much quieter than it.
My father, always known for being nice and often proving it... He had a mercury sable which was still pretty new off the lot, went to one of my baseball games. Adults were playing in the field next door, and one hit a foul that went over the fence and hit the roof right at the seam between the sunroof and shattered it and dented the rim. The guy offered to pay, Dad said no. The league he was in said they'd cover it, again he said no. The guy gave my dad his business card and said call me.....
So Dad took the card and we finished our game. As we left, my dad stopped by the side of the road and got out, I was confused. He walked up to a trash can and threw the card away. He later said that he doesn't think it's fair to charge someone for damages when 1, it was an accident, and 2, he doesn't want to spoil anyone's fun over accidental damage. When we got the car repaired, it cost about $400. He didn't bat an eye. He paid it with a smile and never looked back.
Assumption of risk: if you live and park near a park with cricket (or baseball in the US), you know and understand the risk that there's a possibility that your car could get beaned.
If its parked on your private property are not able to assume security. I agree if it's in the fields parking area you assume risk but surely clubs or councils have a responsibility to respect neighbouring property.
I'm not talking about the legal consequences, just the attitude that people often have. It's like how people will jump into a shallow river then sue a governing body when they hurt themselves.
No you don't, it's the same as baseball (descended from the same game), with only a few minor differences ( bowled balls bouncing up at batters instead of non-bouncing, sent from the same distance), 40 odd outs required over two innings each team, as opposed to 40 ish outs required over 9ish innings each team. Outs by catching, score by running, run outs by returning balls to keeper/backstops etc, Same game, tiny differences.
Okay, but what relevance has it? How is noting cricket and baseballs similarity paying full price for old pizza? Speaking of which I saw a video today extolling New York pizza over Chicago's which said Chicago's is, basically, deep dish verse thin crust which if true puts me on Chicago's side of that.
I live behind a tennis court. My husband and I enjoy tennis. We had a neighbor move in next door. Nice guy, but he started complaining about the "noise" from the tennis court. I mean really? He also complained about the local airport. He finally moved away.
What an idiot. The airfield and the tennis court were here BEFORE he moved in.
Just tell them they have to make them that way for safety reasons. Imagine driving down the highway, and all of a sudden there's a 747 in the next lane. If it wasn't for the noise, no one would know it's there
I had a similar discussion with an elderly man who lived next to a golf course when my errant shot hit the screen covering his pool and scared him. Buddy, that's golf. If you don't know enough to know that, why do you live on a golf course in the first place? He said "If you can't hit better than that you shouldn't play." Dude, pros who make millions playing this game slice the ball now and then.
Around here, football (soccer) fields in the middle of neighbourhoods have high nets around them to prevent the balls from flying everywhere. Meanwhile the fence in the Video is completely useless
That (selling of barrier areas) has happened here (Australia) with, among many others: a dam during the dought (which means it cannot be allowed to fill anymore), a military training area (no longer allowed to use explosive ordinance or live fire of any sort), a research reactor (out of date, but still had to be shut down due to radiation fears), and a few airports (change the flight path/time because of the noise). Not to say the opposite doesn't happen either.
if that is an official cricket pitch someone need his kneecaps broken. You dont give official endorsement to a sportplace with risk of item flying outside its pitch without some fucking nets at very least.

This happens all the time. Sometimes it's the car that the promoter has next to the field.

Good news is none of them have to pay for it! It's an accepted risk parking next to a cricket pitch. Same with golf courses.

Why would you continue filming the guy with the bat when all the action is where the ball is?
theSoulciologist
Because the camera was fixed in location, these are zoomed in crops artificially moving the cropped screen around the larger recorded content.
HuskyPirate
Yeah, I get the feeling that the audio was added to the clip. Could be wrong though.

Yeah, all of the players ARE looking and wincing at something, i dunno!

I don’t know about that.. it seems like just about everyone except for the cameraman is looking off to where the ball went.

Assumption of risk rarely equates to acceptance of risk.

Something tells me that a court in the UK would still tell him to kick rocks, and to either move or park somewhere else.

So according to you, everyone who live close to a golf course just have to accept it if a golf ball damages their property ?
Its not like the course itself is clearly marked, to give a hint as to how far it reaches ?
This is ome of the most selfish things I've heard for a long time! :)
Lampmonster
If you buy a house on a golf course it's going to get hit. Period. It's just how golf works. Balls go astray. What would you do about it?
Lionanar
Ohh, so now it is ON a golf course ?
Is the house going to be moving often, or ?

Unless it was the truly dumbest of city officials that dropped a cricket pitch in the middle of an existing g neighborhood.

Most of them have a road between the houses and the pitch. Dude definitely got a discount on his house for backing onto the pitch
