I'm sure the mold is pre-heated, but you still have to move quick with glass. It radiates heat (cools) very quickly.

If it's a graphite mold, it might not need to be pre-heated! Damn good insulator. We've poured glass from the furnace straight into one.

It is glass. A fried of mine owns a glass shop, and it's amazing to watch them work. Molten glass is cut with scissors as shown in the gif.
