Many, and im talking like 90% or kore, came over LEGALLY on visas that were then expired a few months later so they are there legally, and the illegally staying is the fault of the business owners.

Would that both be immigration fraud and tax fraud? Any more?

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

the ponzi scheme that is our current society? seems like TPTB gave up in the 70s, and now it's so bad they can only float their 'economy' with this new age slave labour

Because the workers didn't 'donate' to Herr Shitzenpants...

Bronson Randolph Ibery?

This should have been addressed decades ago. Maybe even a century.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Let's not forget, it's not even illegal to be illegal. Being undocumented is a civil infraction not a criminal one. Illegal immigration is in the same category as a speeding ticket.

Border patrol used to (maybe still does? But definitely used to) get with farm and ranch owners to raid their properties the day before payday. They get all the work without having to pay for it ❤️

To answer your question I present you another question. Who enforces the law?

8 months ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 4

Because it's all theater. Both Clinton and Obama admins sharply curtailed workplace raids in general and largely focused on "paper-raids" auditing employers for eligibility verification compliance. Both arrested/fined more employers than any other administrations

I wish my clients would keep their mouths shut about their beliefs. I mentioned Seattle and an older client I have started ranting about how it's dirty, tons of impoverished and immigrant folks who are taking government money. I kept my mouth shut because I need money badly myself. But it's like, if that's how he feels he should hire them! He's a doctor, why not? I'll bet he would say "no way! I won't hire people like that!" Ok, you're part of the problem 🤷

Businesses hire them as contractors or subcontractors which shields them from liability. Just another legal loophole. The workers can also apply for an ITIN and the employer will pay them through the ITIN. The undocumented workers can pay their taxes and receive Medicaid. Undocumented workers contribute about 6 billion in tax revenue which goes towards SSN and Medicare for the citizens of the US and they are not eligible.

We verify our entire supply chain for for materials. Employees would be just as easy.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It seems so weird to call someone who has an ITIN undocumented. I get that it's referring to different documentation.. It's just weird.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And they buy goods and services as well. There are very few "illegal" immigrants that use more than they give when it comes to the economy - just like most Americans.

Saying "let's get rid of illegal immigrants" is about as easy on the economy as "let's get rid of tipping" it's doable, but very difficult

Overall undocumented immigrants do not qualify for Medicaid. A small percentage may be able to get emergency Medicaid for something like delivering a baby. Many states do use state funds to cover undocumented immigrants. Some legal immigrants must meet certain qualifications to receive Medicaid.

Because that's how the law is written. Employers have less of a duty to verify IDs than a bouncer. No joke.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Racism and recent history of slavery mostly.

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Because the business owners are expressly protected by law. The US instituted the ITIN system in 1996 to supposedly allow employers to check that their employees were working legally. While there are a tremendous number of ways to game this system, once verified, the employer is held harmless from liability for the status of their workers, and only the workers are liable.

In Brazil only the employers are punished.

Because they are poor, vulnerable and some how different from us. Propaganda machine says we have to hate them and fear them.
Clutch my pearls, praise my 2nd amendment and god praise the orange Jesus.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's surely a coincidence that the business owners are typically rich white right-wing men with bad haircuts.

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

you can just say boomer. they're all fucking boomers. the rot spreads from the boomers out and down.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Wait... IS IT actually illegal to hire them? This feels like where one of those by-design loopholes would be.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It'll be a frosty day in hell before you see ICE arresting Republican farmers.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

They won't bite the hand that feeds them. the police always work for the plantation owners. we're just one big plantation now, we just don't know it...

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Because rich people write the laws.

I know it will never happen but, I want to see the employers choosing to do this arrested, not fined. They would consider a fine just a cost of business.

8 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

I would rather that than the current state (disappearing random immigrants at any time), but better would just be to stop being so heavy handed on all this crap. Just let them work. Let them live. Let them hire whoever. Pushing it all under the table can only harm the vulnerable and stunt our economy.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

human lives are the cost of business, if you own enough of them.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you behave like a horrible piece of shit that poisons people and ruins lives, you go to jail. Do the exact same thing as a job and not only is it almost impossible to get to you personally, you will even climb the ladder if your shit personality translates to better numbers.
It's a legal paradise for psychopaths and imo the very cause of all this madness right now

MATTHEWS: “Do you believe in punishment for abortion yes or no as a principle?”
TRUMP: “And the answer is that there has to be some form of punishment.”
MATTHEWS: “For the woman?”
TRUMP: “Yes, there has to be some form.”

Cause those businesses donated to Republicans.

Because the ownership class is protected

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

ownership class is really the right word. we're essentially one big corporation and the shareholders really control everything.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well, in their defense, those hiring the "illegals" are probably Republicans, so...

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The same reason immigrants are blamed for 'taking jobs' instead of the employers who would rather hire them on the basis of them being easier to abuse. Society has largely decided money = moral, and poors are by association immoral. I disagree, and in fact argue counter, but when you do that people don't like it for some reason.

Agree on statement but perhaps a tax paying middle class business owner just takes the brunt of workforce flow, adjusts to pay wage change and tariffs on their dime. We don't care if we lose them ultimately, because we will repossess their property and offer to quietly bleed them dry for 29% because they still have pride. And when they are leveraged, we will offer the bank bailouts on defaulted loans. And the owner... will be a Democrat problem by then.

I have a friend trying to get out of ICE, who I asked this question and he said after a very labored sigh "...they (leaders) are lazy and its not worth the effort to punish the criminals, only the victims."

And, on the other end, China stole your jobs…they don’t say “the company chose China over the US because of greed”

People largely still believe that
a) They too can be rich if they just work hard enough, and
b) It is good to be rich.

They don't want to believe that they will never have the obscene and wasteful excess that they see in the media, and that it is in fact bad to have a private jet and fleet of cars.
They also don't want to acknowledge the inconvenient fact that the only value in excessive wealth is that other people DON'T have it.

"B-but if I vote against the rights of the obscenely wealthy, how will I get to abuse the poors when I win the lottery next week?" - Glue Drinking Idiots

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They also don't want to acknowledge that being able to buy your way out of anything unpleasant in life turns you into an asshole who thinks they are far removed and better than their fellow man. That just having access to that much money turns you into a bad person. Instead they pretend that billionaires are philanthropist do-gooders.

it's a clever and cruel way to keep them from asking for too much. everyone knows what's going on and well, they keep quiet and work cheap. so might as well be slaves.

"We use a 3rd party to verify our hires have proper paperwork. We didn't know..."

"They said they were legal"

"I donated to the GOP"

8 months ago | Likes 205 Dislikes 10

"Then you will present names and contacts of that 3rd Party along with evidence that you did your due diligence in obtaining that paperwork. And while we WAIT for you to PROVIDE that evidence, you will be remanded to a MAXIMUM SECURITY Penitentiary, in Gen Pop, to help... Motivate your cooperation. Thank you." We can dream. :P

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'm curious how far the "They said they were legal" excuse would fly though. When I got my current job I had to, and this isn't exaggeration, give them four pieces of ID. First round, gave them my DL and what I thought was current passport. The DL was out of state and not RealID, and the passport was actually my expired one. Had to have my parents overnight my current passport and SS card. (My fault). But yeah, it's on the employer to check.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most of that isn't really necessary if hiring someone as a contractor. That being said, businesses abuse 1099s like crazy, and often force people to treat themselves as contractors even though they should have qualified as employees, which is a whole other problem. But your job required all of that identification because they needed to be able to identify you when they file their taxes, and may situations (like seasonal workers) don't always require that.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or they hire them as contractors which leaves taxes, insurance up to the worker. That way when they are injured on site, it doesn't go through the builders insurance.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Thats what happened a couple years ago when they kept finding 10-year-olds working overnight in meat packing plants. The plants just said all their workers were from a contract employer so they didn't know some of them were kids... which might fly if the supervisors were also from the contract labor company, but they weren't. Then most of those states re-legalized child labor...

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now thay are saying the people who want Medicaid can work the farms and pick fruit since all the workers got disappeared.
