I read once that he got ticked off due to the use of a leprechaun in the original script for S1E16, "If Wishes Were Horses". (It was changed to Rumpelstiltskin.) And that inspired a certain vindictiveness on the part of the writers. No clue if that's accurate.
No way, Kai Wynn was a great character. Don't get me wrong, she was an evil fuck and I loved to hate her, but as a character she was great, and the actress who played her had an amazing presence on screen.
That was how the band Buffalo Springfield got their name. They sucked and kept getting kicked out of various venues, so they'd just adopt one name after another trying to market themselves as a different band. By the time they pulled a name off the side of a steamroller they'd actually gotten pretty good.
Miles fundamentally changing the course of Ferengi business, government, and culture by introducing Rom et al to Unions is an impressive feat second only to him somehow making scenes with Bashir fun.
The timing of this episode was amazing. Dock workers union in Australia was having the fight of it's life. And due to the media coverage, people were larely educated on the matter.
He was secretly working for the Wormhole Aliens. They had turned Zek into a less greedy Ferengi. They pathed the path for Rom to be the leader they were going for.
Honestly that's it. Al siddig is so charming and seems so wonderful that people wanted to like Bashir despite his creepiness. His almost romance with Garak was great though.
Bashir really grew on me as DS9 went on. His growth from annoying, boyish, wannabe secret agent to actual spy and brooding genetically modified badass was great to see. Plus his relationship with Garak was fantastic.
I liked the Bashir he became eventually. That's the thing: At the end of DS9 I wondered, thinking back at the beginnings of the series: Are these really the same people? The character development, each person on their own but also the whole gang, is just beautiful in DS9.
Same thing with asohka in Clone Wars. Started out insufferable, but we're so used to games/shows just leaving the annoying character annoying but every now and again we get a series that actually *shows* then learning over time
That is the thing...each of the characters grew so much...and then with the constant storyline of the Dominion...it was an AMAZING series. I never know which I like more...DS9 or STNG. I think that I love them both, equally, but differently.
Oh I have...another great show...but if you ask me they should have ended it at season 3...the stuff they did after that was (IMO) really not great until the final episode but I don't like what they did with the relationships
I liked how after the writers found out there was a gay subtext between Garak and Bashir they hooked Bashir up with Miles to go all brokeback mountain with constant "manly man" trips to the holosuite.
Because Andrew played the fuck out of that role. What an amazing human. It perfectly fit his character always mysterious, always fluid. I loved garak and bashirs lunch dates. Perfect amount of subtext, not in your face, tastefully done. Authentic.

I was always hoping for the Garak/Bashir/Miles/Keiko/Kira polycule. Especially Miles/Keiko/Kira as three parents to Miles and Keiko's baby.

Even his ending in DS9 involves making O'Brien suffer. Because now he has to deal with.... *students*.

I approve of this post!
HCBailly
O'Brien must suffer.

Colm Meany is cool as fuck apparently
ColmMeaney
Of course I am! Oh you meant the famous one.
DigiT00l
In reality, the producers bend over backwards to keep the guy
tyrunn
Yeah he's absent from quite a few episodes because he was allowed to go do films when he wanted to

IIRC someone added it up and O'Brien has been in more pivotal battles than either Picard or Sisko.

Suffering meaning more Keiko?

tyrunn
Not at all, he had an incredible relationship with the crew, and had probably the best contract any ST actor had at the time
Kwyjor
Well, maybe not the vindictiveness, but the leprechaun part's still true, at least. Or so it seems. https://screenrant.com/star-trek-ds9-irish-stereotype-problem-changed/
tyrunn
He asked them to change it yeah, and they did - O'Brien was made to suffer because he was the everyman

If you love him, why don't you marry him????

Keiko would kill me

Same for Jeffrey Combs. They kept kicking him out so he would just show up in a new disguise.

Source? I tried finding info on that and found nothing but star trek fans complaining about him not being in picard

Source: I fucking made it up as a joke.

I can't tell what's a joke or not over text.

I loved Weyoun best, but Brunt was a very amusing character.
HorseDeepInADragon
Rewatching recently I *still* can’t believe Weyoun isn’t played by Rob Lowe lol

Brunt Rulez 😆

He was amazing...I esp. loved the episode where he keeps appearing in Quark's closet!

Bashir was the worst character. Al siddig played him well, he was just. So. Whiny.
FlyYouFLCL
Honestly that's it. Al siddig is so charming and seems so wonderful that people wanted to like Bashir despite his creepiness. His almost romance with Garak was great though.

I liked Bashir...fight me.
ArgumentativeArguerJustBecause
Bashir was better than O'brien at least.
But I mostly like him for his Garak interactions
jayman0123
Bashir was very much an incel in the first season or two. He wasn't interesting until you found out he was engineered
Chimaeraxxxxx
Bashir was my favorite character…second to miles, of course

Me too... But ok. ✊🤜

First season Bashir was... insufferable. He got better though.
tankmayvin
Wasn't that the point?
somnif
In part, though I also assume it was the writers just finding the characters. Happened in every series.
GODzillaFH
I liked the Bashir he became eventually. That's the thing: At the end of DS9 I wondered, thinking back at the beginnings of the series: Are these really the same people? The character development, each person on their own but also the whole gang, is just beautiful in DS9.

yeah he was a young, cocky, fuck boy with some redeeming aspects and then eventually grew up and more embodied those redeeming qualities as defaults.
WaterUnderTheRocketAppliances
He grew up into a fine upstanding fuck gentleman

I liked how after the writers found out there was a gay subtext between Garak and Bashir they hooked Bashir up with Miles to go all brokeback mountain with constant "manly man" trips to the holosuite.
sabrinadiesatdawn
Which is really a shame, because even us straight folk were rooting for Bashak (Gashir? Barak?)
alltherobots
"Found out there was a gay subtext"? or "realize no matter how they wrote Garak, Andrew Robinson would spin it as bisexual"?
RadonGaming
Because Andrew played the fuck out of that role. What an amazing human. It perfectly fit his character always mysterious, always fluid. I loved garak and bashirs lunch dates. Perfect amount of subtext, not in your face, tastefully done. Authentic.
