"Lake Erie at its Mightiest...

This is Lake Erie folks. That nice calm body of water in which so many people go kayaking or swimming in the summer. Don't be fooled. Photographer David Sandford recently spent time on Lake Erie shooting the Great Lake's turbulent fall season. From mid-October to mid-November, the longtime professional sports photographer travelled each week to Port Stanley, Ontario, on the edge of Lake Erie to spend hours taking photos. This series of images shows what this Great Lake looks like after the sunbathers and boaters leave and the weather begins to turn."

These would be really cool if they weren't taken with a 90's era flip phone.

I've seen Lake Michigan like that. Waves washing over a catwalk atop a pier, 35 feet about water level.

It's not just lake effect snow, the lake itself hates the Northeast.

It is fortunate that someone found his camera and posthumously published his photos.

Can confirm. The colors come from the many types of fertilizers that run off farms and such.

The blood of your first born. Erie demands it!!

Awesome photos. Lake Erie is pretty but it reeks of fish farts and bog bubbles. Hope u took a tomato bath after.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The lake it is said never gives up her dead when the skies of November turn gloomy...

Unfortunately not haha, that would be Superior.

If a body of water is big enough it'll try to kill you. Good to know.

I grew up in Port Stanley and I can confirm this. The craziest part is when the waves freeze like that and are like 20 feet tall!

I am blessed to live <1 mi. from her shores. I am always filled with awe, at both her sunsets, and her storms that crop up w/o warning.

I am also pretty damn close to lake Erie. You on the US side or the Canadian side?

The human brain tries to make unfamiliar things look familiar. That's why we see what we see in clouds and faces on every day items.
