#1 That's not centrists. That's radicals who believe that using the same tools or justifications that "the enemy" uses is automatically makes you as bad as them. They believe that violence, for example, is an option not even of last resort, but of admission of failure. They prefer to be crushed under a bootheel than to protect themselves and others, lest they be seen as violent.
It's like the political version of being a vegan, when violence is inherently part of politics.

Promoting to a queen immediately loses the game, black's next move is move the queen to the first rank for checkmate. Promoting to a knight gives a nice fork where as you say, black moves his king out of the way, then white captures the queen.

No problem, and usually promoting to Queen is the correct move! This is just a neat example where a knight is situationally much better, and it's an extreme example cause usually deciding between queen and knight is not life or death =)

Promoting to Knight is the correct action for that board. The promotion to Queen lets Black win on their next move.

#14 classic rookie mistake I've made repeatedly. It's easy to default to getting a Queen as 'the most powerful piece' even if it isn't actually your best option. Most newer players think only of 'getting to the other side', not of actual tactical positioning. They also tend to lose sight of their own defense when they're making a run at it.

By changing the pawn to a knight white would put black in check, forcing the king to move and lose his queen. After that it'd just be cleanup.
