Years ago I was hit by a woman driving distracted (no major injuries thankfully). Today my wife and teen daughter were hit by an asshole at a stoplight because he was distracted. Thankfully they’re ok as I was. But WHAT THE HELL! I know we’re not unique either. It’s a miracle no one was hurt, but many are all the time. When will laws punish these like drunk driving?! Thanks for letting me vent Imgur.

This is why I support self driving cars, public transportation, and biking. If a cyclist runs in to me it will hurt, but I will be better off than if a Ford f150 hits me.

Next time you stop at a red light, look at your fellow drivers surrounding you. Most if not all will pull out their phones and bury their noses until they notice traffic is moving. For motorcycles in the 70s-80s, only 2-3% of impacts came from behind. That number today is closer to 5-6%. Still small but about doubled. Distracted driving I think is the biggest danger on the road today.

And it's way more than being reported. Even if there's no repercussions, you know people lie on the polls. Then you have the people that state they don't because they don't consider what they're doing as a distraction (phone, music, food, GPS, hygiene routine). For the last 25 years I've watched the largest group of distracted drivers be teens-to-early-20's every time in a poll. Because apparently they've all stopped distracted driving as they've gotten older. Sure, likely story.

My Tacoma is in the shop for a paint recall for the next 2 weeks. They gave me a Prius rental car. The "features" and distractions from the car alone are insane

Honestly they just need to build all cars with an IP killswitch that does not let you use your phone in a car unless it’s Bluetooth or the car is shut off. Everywhere I look there are people staring down at their crotch driving on the road and it pissed me off to no end. If you don’t value your own life, fine, but value others’ lives around you
