#1 George Crum wrote a detailed recipe on how to make what we know as chips today, from measurements, to frying to time, etc before him there was no production of potato chips on any known scale, which is why he’s regarded as the founder of potato chips,

side note there is dispute that there was a similar existing recipe 30 years beforehand, but if you follow that recipe which states fry a potato wedge without any specific time you’d get a French fry, Crum’s recipe was the only recipe to kickstart chip production which is why he is considered the inventor of potato chips

#2 He discovered how to pollinate vanilla by hand, teaching others instead of waiting on bees to do it basically increasing production ten fold

#3 He co invented the gamma cell device, basically the cellphone, with one other man, but without him the cellphone wouldn't exist ooooooooooh!

The fuck is black history month?!

If Black History Month was ever necessary, it surely isn't now. And from the comments it looks like this list is littered w/ inaccuracies.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

#1 the first recorded recipe is from 7 years before his birth, so no he didn't invent them.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Otis Boykin stole 4 other people's foreheads and added them to his own

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

Was skimming for this before commenting. You could play a full 18 holes of golf and have a picnic on that shit

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Soon many bullshit in a single post.

9 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 2

It made FP so it must be true

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Many bullshit, so inaccuracies, wow

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

About the claim of inventing fiber optics cable and solar cell... You might want to look it up. Jackson is an outstanding physicist but

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 2

Yep and #3 created a gamma ray cell used in gamma ray detectors not the cellphone.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Bullshit detected!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

#1 you skipped the best part, he 'invented it' out of spite! customer kept complaining the potatoes where cut too thick! but loved the chips

9 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 19

except it's false, potato chips were a thing long before him.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

We wuz inventors n shit

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Pretty sure Otis Boykin didn't invent the pacemaker, he just had the patents for it. Rune Elmqvist and Åke Senning are known for it.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

"Boykin's most famous invention was likely a control unit for the artificial heart pacemaker." A control unit, not the pacemaker itself.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Absolutely no sources. Just how I like it!

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Fucking awesome! Just a quick thought:

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

At least half of those are false.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Mark Dean: holds 3 of the 9 patents for being co-creator of the IBM PC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Dean_(computer_scientist)

Good sauce thanks

A Gamma-Electric cell has nothing to do with cell phones. Neither does Henry T Sampson.

The real question is what the hell is #12 about? Did Black Dynamite bag a shit ton of groceries or something? What am I looking at?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A lot of these aren't exactly true, such as the solar cell and fiber optic one. Building a better mousetrap is great, but not original.

9 years ago | Likes 211 Dislikes 8

I don't believe any of them are true.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that's the one I was most sceptical about, turns out it's totally inaccurate.. I suspect a lot of others are the same.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

This video debunks a lot of these: https://youtu.be/860FnDGISNg

"Wrong" - Donald Trump

For everything else you can thank White People and Asians

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It sickens me when people spread misinformation and try to rewrite history, this list if filled with fake stuff. downvoted

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

btw, not saying all of this is fake, but many of the pics are, and they're spreading misinformation and lies. please don't do that.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you start off with one that is verifiably false I start to doubt all the other ones. Get your facts straight.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

As stated before, this list its extremely inacurate and fake and also #10 its totally wrong, rené lacoste wasn't black at all.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not to diminish the work of these folks, This thing here is applicable:

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You did not invent the potato chip. A British chef did. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potato_chip

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

WE

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

#3 and #4 are both wrong. 3 invented a gamma ray cell used to detect gamma rays not a cellphone and 4 other people invented fibre optics

9 years ago | Likes 166 Dislikes 3

the cell that 3 invented is used to call you when it detects gamma rays.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Came to say this, there is also no mention of her inventing solar cells

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

In one project or independently?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck Shirley.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah found the RPI guy.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah so you went to RPI as well

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol. Yes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just a note #1 proves that they are chips and not crisps

9 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 15

Just a note, language varies, don't shit yourself outta excitement.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

it proves nothing, since the fact is false. The earliest known recipe is from 7 years before he was born. It's a recipe from England btw 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

2/2 but they didn't call them crisps or chips. "Potatoes fried in Slices or Shavings" was the name of the recipe.

let's all start calling them shavings and stop with all the Crisps - Chips stuff!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Read it, that recipe would produce nothing like a potato chip, 1/4 in cut or peeled shavings and no indication of frying until crunchy.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Great, first we have to deal with Brexit and now we're going to have to legislate to stop people calling them crisps.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Or does it just mean that the author of this post is a yank?

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

saratoga springs, ny, usa

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nope, they were called "Saratoga Chips".

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Weitdest nickname for 'muricans I ever heard.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

And before that they were called "Potatoes fried in slicings or shavings" because they were invented in Britain in 1812

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

no that recipe would never produce a potato chip, slab french fries maybe

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh sorry, could you give me your 18th century british recipe from a single archaic cookbook. I wasn't aware you knew how to make them.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

and the winner is...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The alternative facts are strong with this post.

I like Bo Burnham's "everything except peanut butter was invented by white people" according to history class

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

It's revisionist history at it's finest.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The sad thing is white people invented peanut butter too. George Washington Carver invented tons of other uses for peanuts though.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Peanut butter goes back to the Aztecs. Well, a paste very similar to peanut butter

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, peanut butter as we know it today was invented (patented) by Marcellus Gilmore Edson.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't forget George Washington Carver. Inventor of peanut butter, peanut oil, and other peanut-related things.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 6

Thanks for the reminder though I'll remember to add that to the next inventor post

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

So... when is white history month? it seems like this post is basically taking a list of inventors and just removing all references to 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

white people, also why is there a black history? do we have to restrain black people to 1 month only? 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Please no more posts. You're about as factual a source for information as the History Channel or the flat earth society.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In an episode of Good Eats Alton Brown says that while Carver invented many peanut related things, he didn't come up with peanut butter.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Sure enough! Sadly, that means my 1st grade report on him was horribly wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Watch out, the illuminutty will come after you

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You, I like.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Serious point - let's drop Black History month. How about we just call it "History"? As Morgan Freeman says, why relegate it to a month?

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

This, yet a white history month would have everyone in arms

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Because there is a lack of white history being taught in schools. Really? This BS is stupid and I'm tired of it. Stop acting like an idiot.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Many black people disagree with Morgan Freeman. Ignoring problems with race in America doesn't magically make systemic problems vanish.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I'm not saying MF is right about everything, but I do agree that history is history, and black history month doesn't help as it feels if 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 relegating it to a month somehow lessens the history of black people, I.e. "It is only deserving of a month" which is bullshit.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

History is history. Yes there is black history and the evolution of culture, and mistakes (slavery) to learn from and never repeat,

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

The reason BHM exists is because there is a need for people to learn about the contributions blacks have made to society. You can't just

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

say "where is White History month!?" because there is no need for it, it is taught automatically. Black men and women continue to be ignored

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

HELL look at what Trump said about Frederick Douglass, one of the most important people in our history. He didn't know SHIT about him.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As long as you make that distinction, there will be racism. If you're happy with that, knock yourself out.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But the best way to reduce racism? Stop talking about it and treating things differently. If I asked for Ehite History month, I'd be racist

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

There's no need to ask for white history month as that is the default history taught in school and elsewhere.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Also, no issue can go away by stop talking about it long enough. Nothing is solved that way. It may be uncomfortable but it must discussed.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Imgur really isn't the best medium for this - what I mean is, stop talking about it as if it is something distinctly different.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok got it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can confirm am Ehite.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is always one! :D

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuckin ehites... takin all my ojbs and ealth arec and stuff...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. Just because Morgan Freeman says it doesn't make it true. Why do you only listen when he talks, but not the other hundreds of black men

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

and women who say otherwise? Ignoring it doesn't make the problem go away, it makes the problem continue because they will see the racist

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

behavior as acceptable. Seriously, let me just ignore the white guy that walked into my church/mosque and shot everyone. That'll make the

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You miss my point that I've already replied to above - don't ignore it, but don't treat it as inherently different - you are creating a 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 division where one doesn't need to be. Talk about it as much as you want, shout from the rooftops, but all year round, not just 1 month

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
