It's called decorum. Most places don't care if you're high, but they do care if you're obnoxious, and smell is one of those factors.

The restaurant should provide directions to nearest Taco Bell as a public service.

1. It stinks to anyone else even remotely close to them trying to eat
2. Servers and bartenders are legally liable if a DUI driver gets in an accident and they were the last person to serve them alcohol.
Good call

I will fight for your right to use it but please keep it at home as someone who has an allergic reaction to it I have had to leave places where people come in smelling too strongly of it. It's not fun when you start having trouble breathing because they couldn't be bothered to think of anyone but themselves. I know the good it can do for some people and like drinking keep it in an appropriate setting. That also goes for those who swim in their favorite fragrance.

Sign at the all you can eat buffet.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Idk if people need to hear this but smoking weed doesn't make you anymore cool than you take a dump. No one cares, it smells bad, do it in privacy.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I TOTALLY agree with this and would go there, I think they should have this sign EVERYWHERE as I get sick when I smell it, so when I am in a store and the pothead is in front of me, I have to leave, how do you know know you smell so bad?

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Everyone in this picture is illiterate except the sign maker and I hate it.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unfortunatly , you may also be offending and grossing out the rest of the place who has to smell that skunk weed smell. Habitual smokers often can no longer smell it because their smell receptors are fried.

1 year ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

I'm guessing this is about public disruption. Usually these kinds of signs are made because of past problems.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dude if you smoke shit that smells like a skunk's asshole I wouldn't let you in the door. Seriously.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It smells like skunk so I don't blame them. Also ban people who just stink in general

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't mind ppl smoking, but don't do it around others in public who don't consent to be around it.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Seems fair to me. The stank of weed can trigger my asthma. Cigarettes can be bad enough.

Am I the only one who noticed this place has a "D" rating by whatever inspection authority/association it is that rates restaurants using the A-F scale?

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Maybe they use the D-Z scale.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would be willing to abstain to get the "best D"

Bunch of burnouts hating on this image but it fucking stinks. I smoked everyday for 25 years and my state recently legalized. My entire city now smells like pot in every urban area. If I'm sitting down in a restaurant the last thing I want is the entire place smelling like pot too. It's no better than tobacco.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

There is a house down the road from me that stinks like weed 24/7. Night, day, weekday, or weekend, it always smells like weed. I enjoy smoking it, but in part due to the smell, I usually either vape it or take an edible. I can never smell what I'm smoking, but others have said the smell when I'm vaping it is nowhere near as strong as when I smoke it.

1 year ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

It's not but it IS noticeable. Now you got these young guys out there smoking blunts in parking lots and driving around hotboxing. Get a damn sploof, you guys.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I live pretty rural, so I am not used to the smell at all. I went to Amsterdam and the smell hits like a truck, its so horrible. Tabacco is bad, but to my experience I can just walk away from the smoking person upwind and don't smell it, but weed smell just seems to keep hanging for a long time in the area.

1 year ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 18

Dollars to donuts they aren't turning away heavy perfume/cologne wearers or people who smoke cigarettes that stink just as much, if not more. Just hypocritical bullshit to hate on weed smokers.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 26

Usually it’s the most hungry who have the least amount of money.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 46

I live in Vegas. Weed is legal.

Signs like this one I appreciate, because I want to enjoy my time at a restaurant. People who've smoked a whole bowl smell like a walking skunk.

Enjoy the legal weed! Just satisfy your munchies responsibly because a restaurant doesn't need you stinking up the place. Just like order take out or something. We stopped letting people smoke cigarettes in restaurants because of the stench, I don't see this as any different.

1 year ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Not every person who smokes though smells like garbage. Plus, smelling like weed is subjective. I may think you smell like weed, where the next person doesn’t smell enough to care (who could be a waiter that is having a slow day and wants business)

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 15

If they're having to put the sign up, people are not coming in with just faint smells my guy.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

We stopped letting people smoke inside because second hand smoke is health disadvantages to everyone else. sure the smell can be irritating, but nobody is getting kicked out of a restaurant because they smell like an ashtray.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I've served enough people who absolutely reek of it in my line of work to understand. It's not just about the one weed smelling customer you're turning away, but the ones who might be turned away for having to sit close to them.
You lose more allowing the foul, powerful odor. It's absolutely repulsive

I have no issue with those who choose to smoke as long as it’s not in public, especially when behind the wheel. Based on what I see on the roads, though, a lot of smokers don’t care.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I totally agree

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Society would be much more tolerable and accessible if we kept sensory issues in mind in general. Smells, noise, lighting, etc.

1 year ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

That's true. Reminded me how for some reason the car manufacturers (and third-party solutions) just stop caring about making lights that don't blind the person driving the other way around, it happens when they change to LEDs but I'm pretty sure there are solutions that can do it right and yet nobody cares

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I get that and sympathize. On the same token, I'm a little nervous that suddenly every person of color who visits that establishment suddenly "smells like weed" just like when they get pulled over by the police, and basically for the same reason: racism.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I don't mind the smell of weed (ex toker), but I feel the same about cigarette smoke. Especially stale smoke. It's common courtesy not to reek when going somewhere public.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least air yourself out, just because you can't smell it doesn't mean others can't, and a lot of people are smell sensitive

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it should also apply to anyone smoking ... I smelled so many reeking of it.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I’m with you. I’m all for personal freedom but I hate that smell. You want to enjoy some edibles and come eat next to me at the restaurant, I’m all for it! But please don’t ruin my meal coming in reeking like skunk farts.

1 year ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 5

Same here. It's revolting to me. I get around it with edibles lol

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We'd all be sat there doing The Rock nose thing.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It's not about personal freedom, it's about being considerate to other people. If people think it's personal freedom then it's also a violation of my personal freedom of enjoying my meal that I paid for in the restaurant.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Your freedoms end where someone else's freedoms begin.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I think a restaurant turning away customers with strong odors in general is more than reasonable.

1 year ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

If they'd just said 'strong odors' they'd have no issues, and it would open it up to other stenches

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Weed and cigarettes do not smell the same in people. Cigarettes stink, but the distance you can smell them is not nearly as far as weed. Weed stinks from so far away. Also, fewer and fewer people smoke cigarettes anyway.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Hey, I'd be down for banning all strong ordors. That been said, in my experience at least, people strongly smelling of weed is much more common than any other source of smell combined.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

I can’t serve you if you walk in reeking of vodka and whiskey, why should weed get a pass?

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Because drunk drivingis illegal and leads to deaths in traffic collisions, smoking weed is a crime because elected officials were racially prejudiced and used it's status as a controlled substance to incarcerate people of color and remove their ability to choose who represents them in most elections... Still confused why you serving someone who's drunk driving and serving someone who has smoked is different???

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I feel the same way about perfume and aftershave.

1 year ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 6

I stopped wearing perfume for this reason (other’s sensitivities, not my own)

I am so allergic to scents. I can't even walk by Bath and Body Works. Please don't overspray.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Went to a going away party for a co-worker couple Fridays ago. One of the older ladies came in, and I couldn't breathe. Her perfume was just so dang strong. Worked with another guy, manager, years ago that was like this. You could smell his aftershave/cologne before you saw him.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Over applied I agree, but it's a rare issue I think. Skunk weed is so prevalent in most city's you get a contact high walking down the street.

1 year ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 7

I don't know what's more pathetic - The restaurant's policy or the fact that the word marijuana is censored out in the meme.

1 year ago | Likes 558 Dislikes 45

Words are dangerous! You can't say them!

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The censoring is usually to get around some social media filters

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I agree with the policy. The smell of weed makes me physically sick.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's really interesting how censoring is coming full circle. In the 90's we were finally starting to realize a less censored world, especially with the advent of the internet. Now, since social media has the market share of social interaction, huge swaths of words connected to any kind if sensitive social matter are being deprioritized, so people self-censor to get around it.

Its not unreasonable to expect people to not have a skunk-like stench that you can detect from 6 tables away. It's nauseating and can ruin other people's meals.

should instead use term cannabis anyway, but smoke 'em if you got 'em

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Agreed, the campaign in the 20s? 30s? To call it marijuana in America has racist origins because it "sounded Mexican" so easier to smear people who use it that way. I'm not a stickler for saying cannabis instead but it's good to be clear about the history of it

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

exactly

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's 1900000% reasonable to deny service to reefers. What's pathetic is people who can't either wear clean clothes or go long enough without smoking pot to stop smelling like pot long enough to be in public. I've smoked my share of pot. I can't go out my front door without smelling pot literally everywhere. Trust me, it gets annoying as fuck, instantly.

1 year ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 6

Yeah I've smoked pot, don't mind people who do, but that stuff stinks. My friends who regularly smoke it, their cars stink. I've taken a friend to the shop to pick up and just the short car ride was enough for it to stink up my car for a few days. At least cigarettes don't stink unless it's on fire.

Now on the other hand, smoke whatever you want...just keep it away from me.

The fuck? You know smell is tied to taste, right? So especially in a restaurant, a smell can ruin the meal you're paying for. I've got a strong sense of smell and the smell of people affects me more than anything else. Literally makes me nauseous. So you think that's okay to consciously to do other people? Selfish people who don't give a shit about the people around them are also fun to be around. Must be awesome being that self centered. Have fun smelling awful I guess. Good for you.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not a sense you can turn off, and it's part of the same system which causes humans to vomit or become nauseated, let alone enjoy food. I'm all for letting adults toke up at their leisure, but if you drown yourself in perfumes or any other oderants then the onus is on you to show some common courtesy for your fellow beings. It's bad enough when people use body spray in gym lockers, I couldn't even imagine trying to eat in those conditions. This is what take-away is ideal for.

1 year ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Somehow everyone survived the world smelling like cigarettes.

Theres a little voice in your head that goes "ohmigod i hate this" when youre exposed to a new sensation, be it sound, sight, smell, whatever.

You control that little voice. If you stop saying you hate it, you will.

If you continue to make a big deal out of it always, youre reinforcing your own behaviour.

Same reason transphobes get so hung up on they/them. Cause everytime they say it they go "ohmigod i hate this" internally.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How much dog shit bedside your dinner plate is too much dog shit for you to ignore? Just control that little voice, and eat your meal.

Cigarettes are banned in many restaurants, worldwide, BTW.

Let's not conflate trans rights and banning cigarettes.

In the UK, smoking (tobacco) was banned quite some time ago now. It's so much nicer for those of us who don't smoke. While I'm not keen on the state saying what people smoke, I'm not looking forward to the stench of weed everywhere - had enough of that at college, it's rotten for those who don't partake.

1 year ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 7

Compared to a joint or a bong though

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

Either way you reek. You just don't smell it because you're used to it and it's dulled your sense of smell and taste. Non-smokers can smell you like half a block away even with a vape..

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

1 year ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

How do you feel about people who reek of cigarettes?

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

They stink and should stay outside

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

It's a difference in range. I don't think I've ever been at a restaurant (all non-smoking in my state for like the last 10 years) where I could smell a tobacco smoker "residual stench" from the table next to me (you usually have to be pretty close), but a weed smoker you can often smell from the other side of the room.

People who reek of anything unpleasant should be turned away from decent restaurants. I would expect a restaurant to turn someone away who has terrible body odor too

Or even too strong of perfume/cologne.. that can sometimes be worse. That stuff lingers.

Or cigarette smoke for that matter.

I can't smell people's car driving down the street from cigarette smoke. I definitely can with weed smoke. Cigarettes are gross, but it's not nearly as strong a smell most of the time.

Recreational weed is legal in my state, which is awesome, but it's become license for some people to just fucking STANK like ditch weed in public after hotboxing in their cars. Like you can smell them 10 seconds before you see them, it's way too much and I would think a restaurant is in their right to kick them out for smelling that awful.

God ya the random stoner you can smell before you spot them and somehow manage to take the same path as you around the store

I have experienced people in restaurants that smell incredibly worse than if they just smoked marijuana, people that smoke cigarettes in their home 🤢, people who don’t wash as often as they should, people in dirty clothes, I don’t expect them to be kicked out, so no, not for smelling like weed either, get over it.

fr, and while they're at it they should kick out people who smell like cigarette smoke. imo the cigarette smokers smell so much worse, too 🤢

Cigarettes and powdery perfume reek just as bad.

omg the people with no sense of smell who douse themselves with perfume are so gross. Had a lady at a movie theatre 4 rows up from me like that and I had to leave.

Yup. Be classy and have a 100mg edible before you go out to eat.

Give it 30+ minutes and order all the appetizers as a little treat

What's so stupid about people nowadays is you saying that somehow means you despise anyone that smokes.. it's not that. I could care less what you do with your body but I shouldn't be subjected to you reeking like a skunk.. especially while I'm eating.. we have smoking and non-smoking sections for this reason.. we need like a weed *room* for these people that want to stink up the place..

“Couldn’t care less” and people in general smell bad for various reasons, much worse than smoking pot, so I guess I’d prefer that smell over no deodorant, stale cigarette, old beer, sweated liquor from the night before, etc.

A lot of states don't even have non-smoking sections anymore and just ban smoking in restaurants outright.

Yeah. Where I'm at (PA, US) it's been banned since 2008. The point however still stands. Places could ban marijuana smokers or simply shadow section them.. as in it's not mentioned but because they stink they get sat someplace in particular.

I get the joke of marijuana giving people "munchies" but as a non-smoking customer I don't care. Clean yourself up. Eat an edible instead or something. You don't have to stink the place up.

I had that thought as well, but they'd be better served by saying you can't come in if you stink, without specifically marijuana. Covers all other circumstances where someone might stink too.

I feel like that opens the opportunity to refuse to serve homeless people though. Granted, most private businesses already have the right to refuse service (as long as it's not for reasons that are of protected status like age/gender/race/etc) so they probably could do so it they wanted.

Also if you could kick people out for BO, every Games Workshop store I've ever been to would be empty.

Rarely and I mean rarely, have I smelled people who smell as strongly as weed. Like someone said, you can smell them coming. The same people driving in traffic and its so strong that I have to roll up my windows following them down the street. I walked by a guy with his car door open on my way into Walmart some time ago. I was like 40 feet away and I thought I was going to get a contact high. I completely understand this restaurant.

saw that from a cop once. Idk, I’ve met some people who smell like what they do, which is alright if what you do is crunch numbers, less alright if you’re a dairy farmer.

Was a nice cool day so I didn't even have my blower on in my car; Windows were up and a truck pulled in next to me, their windows up. As soon as they pulled in my whole care was filled with the smell of cigarettes. Like how much are you smoking that in that situation it smells like I'm the one smoking in my car?

You would have died in the 90s. We used to smoke ciggys inside. Everywhere. The whole world reeked of ciggys. And it was fine enough.

I'm 41. I grew up in the 90s. You're right, everything stunk, even restaurants. I miss the 90s, but I dont miss that part. It's nicer now without my kids breathing second hand smoke because people can't wait until they get outside. I'm a former smoker. I had coworkers comment that they didn't know I smoked because I never smelled like it. I smoked away from people.
